Deepti Sharma’s debut T20 half-century proved futile as Mumbai Indians showcased dazzling performances from Saika Ishaque and Nat Sciver-Brunt to overwhelm UP Warriorz by 42 runs at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. With this resounding victory over UPW, Mumbai Indians climbed to the same points level as Delhi Capitals at the summit of the table.

In the initial stages, having won the toss, Mumbai Indians fought to set a challenging target of 160 for 6 against UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League clash in New Delhi. Despite the early setbacks of losing both openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Mathews in the fourth over, Nat Sciver-Brunt (45 off 31) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (33 off 30) stabilized MI’s innings with a solid 59-run partnership for the third wicket.

Brilliant Performances Propel MI to Victory Over UP Warriorz

As the innings progressed, MI gained momentum, thanks to valuable contributions from Amelia Kerr (39 not out) and the emerging talent Sajeevan Sajana (22 not out off 14 balls), who combined for a crucial 43-run partnership in 4.2 overs. The middle and lower order of MI demonstrated resilience, with Sciver-Brunt and Kaur providing stability, while Kerr and Sajana bolstered the total in the final overs.

During her aggressive innings, Sciver-Brunt showcased her shot-making prowess, finding the boundary on eight occasions. Meanwhile, Harmanpreet assumed the role of anchor. However, just when their partnership seemed promising, Sciver-Brunt fell victim to left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad, who had been targeted by the batter in the earlier overs.

A deceptive quicker delivery at a fuller length deceived Sciver-Brunt, causing her downfall. Harmanpreet then took charge to accelerate alongside Kerr, who capitalized on scoring opportunities. The MI skipper first dispatched Gayakwad to deep midwicket with a sweep shot, followed by a powerful maximum off the next delivery, kneeling down to strike it emphatically.
