Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will face each other for the second time in Qualifier-1 (winner-take-all contest) of Indian Premier League 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 23rd 2023.
Chennai Super Kings will be coming into the contest on the back of some stellar performances in the league stages, they finished the league stage with a solid 77-runs win over DC.
Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, will be heading into the game on the back of a Shubman Gill’s masterclass in the previous two games. Gill scored two consecutive centuries in the last two games, one against SRH and one against RCB. GT has never lost to CSK in the history of IPL.
For CSK, the duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway have been brilliant throughout the tournament. Devon Conway has so far aggregated 585 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 53.18, while Ruturaj Gaikwad has amassed 504 runs at an average of 42. In the bowling department, Tushar Deshpande has picked 20 wickets in 14 games, while Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana has managed to pick 17 and 15 wickets, respectively. CSK will look to continue their winning momentum and will be keen to make a mark against GT, whom they have never defeated in IPL.
For GT, the batting department is all about Shubman Gill, in a team where not as single batter has managed to score over 300, Shubman Gill single-handedly has aggregated 680 runs in 14 games at a phenomenal average of 56.67.
He is placed second in the list of most runs and is now the main contender for Orange Cap. In the bowling department, both Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan are on the top of the list with 24 wickets each and they currently share the Purple Cap. GT too would look to carry the winning momentum going, with eye on their fourth consecutive win against CSK.
In three games played between the two teams, Gujarat Titans have sealed victory in all three games, while CSK is yet to open their account.
