Barabati Stadium (Cuttack) is set to host the second game of the three-match ODI series between India and England on Sunday (February 9). Hosts India are leading this series by 1-0.
After winning the home T20I series by 4-1 against England, India started the home ODI series with a strong four-wicket win in Nagpur. Although England managed to set up a dominant start with 75/0, Indian bowlers and fielders provided a strong comeback in the game, as the visitors suddenly found themselves at 77/3, and they were all out for 248 runs despite two 50s.
In reply, after the Indian openers fell cheaply (19/2), Shreyas Iyer produced a solid counterattack. After his 59, Shubman Gill (87) and Axar Patel (52) made the chasing comfortable.
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli missed out on the ODI series opener due to a swollen knee, but he is fit and available for the second ODI. While Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana made their ODI debuts in the Nagpur ODI, Shreyas Iyer replaced injured Kohli in that ODI series opener. It will be interesting to see who can leave the place for Kohli.
Meanwhile, Joe Root had a disappointing outing in the Nagpur ODI, which was his first ODI match since the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. It will be also interesting to see if Mark Wood returns to the ODI playing XI.
