On New Year’s Day, the Hobart Hurricanes will face the Sydney Thunder at the Bellerive Oval in match 21 of the 2023-24 Big Bash League. Both teams have only won one match this season, with the Hurricanes playing four and the Thunder five. The Hobart Hurricanes are in eighth place, the bottom of the BBL table, and have already been defeated three times this season. They are, however, always competitive in front of their home fans and will be optimistic about their chances against Sydney Thunder. Thunder have only lost one of their last three games, with the Sydney derby ending in a tie. They certainly have some good batters and bowlers, and they will now have to deliver in the Hobart conditions if they are to climb the table.

With both teams in the lower half of the BBL table this season, stringing together a string of victories is the only way they’ll be able to qualify for the play-offs. Both the Hurricanes and Thunder have played better than their league table positions, but have yet to win enough games. We believe the Hobart Hurricanes will win because their bowlers have a wider range and variety. Considering the team combination, Hobart Hurricanes is expected to win this match.
