Sourav Ganguly has over three million followers on Instagram and follows 106 people. Virat Kohli is not among them. Kohli on the other hand, has over 246 million followers on Instagram and follows 276 persons. Ganguly is not among them. Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly recently unfollowed current captain Virat Kohli on Instagram, reportedly in retaliation to Kohli not wishing him on his birthday.
Ganguly, who turned 49 on July 8th, noticed that Kohli had not wished him on social media, which he found disrespectful given their long-standing relationship. Ganguly and Kohli have worked closely together, with Ganguly serving as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during Kohli’s tenure as captain.
According to reports, Ganguly and Kohli were both present at the match but did not greet each other or shake hands, despite being in close proximity on several occasions. The incident has raised eyebrows among cricket fans and media outlets, who are now speculating about the nature of the alleged feud between the two players.
Sources close to Ganguly claim that he was hurt by Kohli’s apparent disregard for his birthday and decided to unfollow him on Instagram in retaliation. The move has since caused a stir among cricket fans and media outlets, with many speculating about the underlying tensions between the two captains.
The Virat Kohli-Sourav Ganguly relationship was tarnished after Virat Kohli was sacked as ODI captain ahead of the South Africa tour with Ganguly at the helm.
The BCCI president, Ganguly revealed that he asked Virat Kohli to not quit as India T20I captain as the team is not in favor of split captaincy. However, when Kohli decided to quit as India T20I captain, the board sacked him as ODI captain and named Rohit Sharma as the skipper of team India.
Ganguly also said – Virat Kohli was prior informed about the change in leadership.
Virat Kohli, contradicted Ganguly’s claims and said that he was told about his sacking over a phone call just hours before the team’s departure to South Africa, adding that his decision to step down as T20I captain was accepted positively.
Regardless of the reasons behind the Instagram unfollowing, it is clear that the incident has caused a stir in the cricket world. Fans and commentators alike will be eagerly watching to see how the relationship between Ganguly and Kohli evolves in the coming weeks and months.
