Virat Kohli was scolded by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar after he failed to impress in the opening match of the three-match series against the West Indies on Sunday in Ahmedabad by scoring only 8 runs out of 4!
Koli was greeted by Alzarri Joseph’s short-pitched deliveries. A mistimed top edge on the fourth delivery ended his aggressive approach to the innings at 8 off 4 as he attempted to get over the fine-leg fence. Gavaskar, in a recent interview with Star Sports, revealed that even the South African bowlers wanted to pull off the same tactic against Kohli during the ODI series last month. In spite of the dismissal, India won the match by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Gavaskar believes the bowlers are more tentative to dish out the variety against Kohli when he doesn’t want to duck or leave shorter deliveries. In the remaining two games of the series, Kohli was warned not to take such deliveries lightly.
”It seemed that even the South Africans were trying to bounce Virat Kohli in one-day cricket, perhaps not so much in Test cricket. The fact that he is one of those batsmen who never ducks. His favorite shot is a hook shot, in which he cannot really control where the ball goes”, he stated. The second match will take place on February 9 and the final on February 11. There will be no change of venue as both matches will be played on the same day.
