Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) has been one of the unluckiest teams in the Indian Premier League tournament’s timeline. Every year, the Mohali-based franchise forms a strong lineup during the auction, but the team is yet to win the IPL crown.
Numerous famous cricketers have played for the Punjab Kings throughout their IPL careers, including Mahela Jayawardene, Brett Lee, Virender Sehwag, Kumar Sangakkara, Yuvraj Singh, and Glenn Maxwell.
But today, we’ll look at the three players who have finished their IPL careers with the Punjab-based franchise.
Lakshmipathy Balaji
Lakshmipathy Balaji was bought by Punjab in 2014
Lakshmipathy Balaji, a former Indian bowler, was a member of the Punjab Kings side that reached the IPL final in 2014. The right-arm medium bowler took 12 wickets in nine games for Punjab. His talents were consistent and flawless pace deliveries.
Virender Sehwag was a part of the Punjab Kings from 2014-2015
Virender Sehwag finished his IPL career with the Punjab Kings in 2015, where he is most renowned for his swashbuckling style. Sehwag joined Punjab in 2014 and played 17 matches with the Mohali-based club, scoring 455 runs.
His form declined in 2015 when his bat could have managed to score just 99 runs in eight matches with a strike rate of less than 120. After that season, Sehwag withdrew from the IPL and joined the coaching staff of Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings).
Adam Gilchrist
After leading the Deccan Chargers, Gilchrist went on to do a really good job with Punjab too
Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist captained the Punjab Kings in the final phase of his career. Gilchrist would open the innings and keep the wickets for the Punjab Kings (now known as Kings XI Punjab). He played 34 matches for the Punjab Kings and scored 849 runs.
Gilchrist recorded four fifties and a century for the Kings. In his last IPL match against the Mumbai Indians, Gilchrist decided to bowl the final over.
