Over the years, Australians have dominated the Indian Premier League among foreigners. They are the most sought-after players, praised for their batting, fielding, and bowling abilities.
Many players like Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, and many more in the league have created an impression that is still remembered and appreciated. Such is Australia’s influence on IPL.
There is no denying that the current generation of Australian talent is extraordinary. So, here is a list of five Australian cricketers that can make an impact in the next 2023 IPL season.
Cameron Green, the 23-year-old Australian cricketer, can produce with both the bat and the ball, as seen by his recent exploits. In his T20I statistics, Green has played eight games and scored 139 runs at an astounding strike rate of 173.75. Green has already hit two fifty in three games versus India.
So far, he has taken five wickets with the ball. On the spinning tracks of India, Green has demonstrated confidence by confidently hitting humongous strokes against Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel.
And with the five-time champion, Mumbai Indians, breaking the bank to acquire him for a colossal Rs 17.5 Crore, he is indeed a player to check out from the Aussies’ backyard in the upcoming 2023 IPL edition.
Tim David was a relatively unknown quantity until he was purchased by the five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians for Rs 8.25 crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction.
The Singapore-born all-rounder had a ‘stop-start’ campaign for MI in IPL 2022, but he still managed to show off his explosive talent. David has 187 runs to his name with a strike rate of 210 in 9 matches this season, with a top score of 46.
And, with his aggressive and dangerous hitting style, he would be an Australian hitter to keep an eye on in the 2023 IPL season.
Josh Hazlewood is an important element of Australia’s fast bowling trio with Mitchell Starc & Pat Cummins, and his presence in the RCB camp has been a boon to them.
He performs a vital role as a wicket-taking quick bowler who is also frugal. He has 20 wickets and an economy rate of 8.11 in his 2022 IPL season.
He is an important player of the RCB squad, and the team would like to keep him that way. He is also an Australian to keep an eye on in the upcoming IPL season.
Glenn Maxwell, a destructive all-rounder, has lit up the game’s shortest format with his batting heroics, power hitting and valuable part-time bowling.
The Australian, a terrific fielder who can help with his off-spin, may serve as a floater in a lineup. Maxwell scored 513 runs in 15 matches with a strike rate of 144.10 in the 2021 season when he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping Rs 14.25 crore.
After a solid showing in the last edition, it is clear that he is an Aussie who can have a significant impact on RCB in the 2023 edition.
David Warner, the fifth-highest run-scorer in IPL history with 5449 runs, is one of the most destructive openers across formats and will be eager to make an impact for DC right from the start.
After a long affiliation with his old side, Sunrisers Hyderabad, his performance with his first IPL squad, Delhi Capitals, is noteworthy.
His consistent and fascinating calibre distinguishes him from the rest of the openers. He scored 432 runs with the Capitals in his previous season, with a strike rate of 150.52 and five half-centuries. As a result, he might be a player to keep an eye on in the next 2023 IPL season.
