A bowler may compete for the Purple Cap in the IPL by putting in enormous effort, consistency, accuracy, and diversity. As the tournament’s quality and competition would imply, we look at the bowlers who have taken the most wickets in a single IPL season.
Harshal Patel holds the record for most wickets in an IPL season. Although having played in the IPL since 2012, the Gujarat pacer had a breakout season in 2021, taking 32 wickets in 15 matches to help Royal Challengers Bangalore reach the playoffs. The right-hand medium pace master was so effective with the ball that he struck every ten deliveries in the 2021 IPL, and his best bowling total of 5/27 came against the Mumbai Indians.

Kagiso Rabada has been a pivotal component in every IPL squad he has played for. Rabada was on the run in the 2020 IPL, picking up 30 wickets in 17 games at a fantastic strike rate of 13.1, the third-best in a single IPL season. The great bowler guided the Delhi Capitals to their first final.
Lasith Malinga, the greatest fast bowler in Indian T20 League history, ranks fourth in terms of most wickets in a single IPL season. Malinga grabbed 28 wickets in 16 matches in 2011, with an average and strike rate of 13.39 and 13.5, respectively. The sling-action bowler was at his best, causing havoc with his precision yorkers and slowers.
The left-arm fast bowler was indeed a headache for batters throughout his tenure owing to his superb backhand slower balls, has ranked fifth on the most wickets in a single IPL season list. Faulkner, who has played in the IPL since 2011, played all matches in a single edition for the first time in 2013 and grabbed 28 wickets on 16 occasions.
