Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli has yet again made history in T20 cricket with a monumental performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Kohli’s unbeaten knock of 72 runs off just 47 deliveries helped RCB chase down a target of 201 runs, making it the highest successful run chase in IPL history.
During his innings, Kohli played some sublime strokes, hitting three fours and five sixes to take his team over the line. The RCB captain was the lone warrior in his team’s chase, as his teammates struggled to score runs at a brisk pace.
Kohli’s innings were especially impressive as it came against a strong KKR bowling attack, which boasts some of the best T20 bowlers in the world, including Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, and Andre Russell.
With his innings, Kohli also became the first player in IPL history to score 6,000 runs for a single franchise. He achieved this feat in his 192nd innings for RCB, at an average of 37.96 and a strike rate of 130.39.
After the match, Kohli expressed his joy at the record-breaking performance and praised his team for their fighting spirit.
“I don’t have words right now. It was an amazing game. We have seen some amazing games in the IPL, but this stands out. You don’t really have words for games like this. I’m speechless. Proud of the character the boys showed.“
he said
“To be honest we handed them the game. We did deserve to lose. We were certainly not up to standard. If you look at the game, we didn’t capitalize (on) our chances. We dropped a few chances which cost us 25-30 runs,”
he added
The team will be hoping to continue their winning momentum and make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Kohli has been a stalwart in the IPL since its inception in 2008 and has been leading RCB since 2013. He is one of the most successful batsmen in the tournament’s history, with over 6,000 runs and five centuries to his name.
Virat Kohli’s latest record-breaking innings in the IPL is a testament to his skill and consistency as a T20 cricketer. He has once again proved why he is considered one of the best players in the world and has cemented his position as a legend of the game. As the IPL season progresses, fans will be hoping to see more such performances from Kohli and other top players in the tournament.
