During Monday’s match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the BCCI took severe action against Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, and Naveen-ul-Haq for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. After being found guilty of a Level 2 offense, Kohli and Gambhir were fined 100% of their match fees, while Naveen-ul-Haq was fined 50% of his match fees for his Level 1 offense. Gambhir, Kohli and Naveen confessed to their separate offenses and acknowledged the authorizations.
“Lucknow Super Giants’ Mentor Gautam Gambhir has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Gambhir admitted to the Level 2 offense under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct. Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Virat Kohli has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Lucknow Super Giants. Kohli admitted to the Level 2 offense under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct,”
IPL said in a release late on Monday night.
During the LSG chase, Kohli became more enthused and exuberant. It gave off an impression of being an immediate reaction to LSG’s tutor Gambhir’s beyond ludicrous festivals after they beat RCB in the main leg prior in the season. The RCB sturdy was seen shouting, clenching hand siphoning and even, putting a finger to all the rage and afterward asking the group not to stay silent. It was in response to Gambhir’s “shushing” gesture following Bangalore’s last-ball thriller.
However, toward the end of the LSG chase, tensions began to rise. Kohli had heated arguments with LSG cricketers Amit Mishra and Naveen-ul-Haq in the 17th over, which persisted well after the match was over. Even RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj’s expression made it clear that he wasn’t pleased with Naveen.
The Afghanistan pacer was seen brushing Kohli off after the aggressive handshake. After that, LSG opener Kyle Mayers was seen conversing with Kohli when Gambhir arrived and removed the left-hander. Kohli appeared to be unhappy about this, and he looked at her and left.
Later, Kohli and Gambhir got into a fight, with the two cricket greats disagreeing about what happened in the last few overs on the field. The beginning stage of the Gambhir-Kohli was likely the visit between Kyle Mayers and Virat Kohli. Gambhir and Kohli were hard to stop after that incident. The IPL assessed substantial fines to Naveen, Gambhir, and Kohli for violating the Code of Conduct.
However, Gambhir was not finished. He was seen biting Kohli in the mouth. Even as his teammates, including captain KL Rahul, attempted to calm him down, the former India opener was seen charging at Kohli multiple times. When Gambhir broke away and confronted Kohli, who also did not back down, the situation got worse. The players had a heated argument, and Kohli seemed to be trying to explain the situation to Gambhir.
Amit Mishra and others broke up the couple.
The issue was not finished there. On the sidelines, Kohli was then seen having a lengthy conversation with Rahul. The right-arm seamer disregarded the LSG captain’s attempt to call his Afghanistan pacer Naveen in an effort to resolve the conflict between them. Before continuing his conversation with Rahul, Kohli spoke once more.
“Lucknow Super Giants’ bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Naveen-ul-Haq admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct,”
IPL said.
On a difficult surface, RCB batted first, scoring 126/9, and then stopped LSG at 108 to win the match by 18 runs.
