In the opening match of the IPL 2023 on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Chennai Super Kings take on Gujarat Titans with a goal in mind. With eight points from 14 matches, including four wins and 10 losses, CSK finished ninth in the ten-team table last season. This time, the team led by MS Dhoni will want to challenge for the title with a consistent performance. However, the availability of CSK captain Dhoni is highly speculative ahead of the tournament’s opening match. Dhoni’s left knee is a little sore. During a training session in Ahmedabad, he got hurt.

MS Dhoni was seated with a kneecap and reportedly hesitant to bat during the intra-squad practice match on Monday

At the point when he came to bat, he was finding it hard to run and was likewise limping. He even stopped halfway through and stumbled to the crease at times. In the meantime, he also did not play wicketkeeper during the match.

When he was asked,

“As far as I am concerned, the skipper is 100 percent playing. I don’t know about any other development.”

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, told PTI

If Dhoni is unable to play in Friday’s match, Devon Conway could take over as wicketkeeper; if he doesn’t start, Ruturaj Gaikwad or Ambati Rayudu are expected to take over. However, the possibility that Dhoni will become the first player to have an impact in IPL 2023 is an additional intriguing aspect of this. If Dhoni is having trouble getting between the wickets, he might be captain and wicketkeeper, and someone else might be in charge of batting.

Additionally, CSK faces a dilemma regarding the match’s captaincy. Ben Stokes, who is thought to be Dhoni’s successor, has also been injured. Therefore, either Gaikwad or Ravindra Jadeja could lead the team. Even though it was not a pleasant experience, Jadeja has already had some captaincy experience. He took over as captain of CSK ahead of the IPL 2022, but he quit in the middle of the season due to poor performances, giving Dhoni the captaincy once more. Due to an injury, the all-rounder was later ruled out.
