THE TEAM NEWS
ISLAMABAD UNITED
Islamabad United lost in their opening match of PSL 5 as they succumbed to defeat against reigning champions Quetta Gladiators with their inability to finish their 20 overs with the bat costing them. Islamabad lost Colin Munro with the primary ball of the tournament as they got off to the worst start possible and despite Dawid Malan’s 64 from 40, his side was skittled for 168 with five balls left of their innings as many of their sides struggled with the bat. The Gladiators were in trouble at 26/3 but they rallied and did what was required to condemn Islamabad to defeat and that they will need more support within the bowling department during this game after Shadab Khan and Amad Butt each went for over 12 an over.
MULTAN SULTANS
The Sultans were in big trouble because the Qalandars made an excellent start and looked to get on their thanks to an enormous total after reaching 59/0 into the sixth over but the spin trio of Moeen Ali, Imran Tahir, and Shahid Afridi combined to show the sport on its head as they helped to limit Lahore to 138/8. The confidence gained from that effort with the ball clearly carried forward onto the run chase because the Sultans made light work of the Qalandars’ total with captain Shan Masood top-scoring with 38 and it might be a surprise if any changes are made to the side for this next game.
