When: March 2, 13:00 Local, 14:30 IST

Where: Dubai International Cricket Stadium

What to expect: The mornings and nights here have been chilly, but during playtime, the temperatures are expected to be cricket-friendly, both in the afternoon and evening. The team winning the toss may opt to bat, but India won't mind chasing either.

NZ vs IND Team News:

India

India may opt to make a couple of changes, though it remains unclear whether they will rest skipper Rohit Sharma. The captain is nursing a hamstring injury, but he appeared to be fine on Friday night after batting for an extended period. Mohammed Shami could make way for Arshdeep Singh, with Varun Chakravarthy potentially coming in for Kuldeep Yadav.

Playing XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy

New Zealand

The already-qualified Black Caps too will be tempted to give players carrying niggles a breather before the knockouts. That said, Daryl Mitchell, is fit again after missing the Bangladesh game with illness. Who he replaces in the XI will be a dilemma for Santner and Stead given the player who replaced Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, hit a fine hundred. Incidentally, Ravindra, who was injured before his return against Bangladesh, was replaced by Will Young, who also has a century in this tournament.

Playing XI: Will Young, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, Tom Latham (wk), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (c), Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, and William O'Rourke.

Pitch Report

It's pretty warm out here, the good news is that there is no chance of rain today. Talking about the dimensions, 62m to my left and 67m to my right and 79m down the ground. It's the quickest outfield in the tournament so there's value for shots. A lot of cracks, looks very Australian in nature, it's not going to hurt the batters much. After dark, it turns more for the spinners. South Africa have already played here against Afghanistan so that gives them an advantage. It looks like a very good surface for batting, reckon Shaun Pollock and Ramiz Raja.

England have been found wanting in the tournament and already stand eliminated. With Buttler having stepped down from England white-ball captaincy, things look gloomy for them. Today will mark Buttler’s last game as England captain. Their lack of discipline in bowling is the major issue that led to their losses – first against Australia and then against Afghanistan. They scored a mammoth 351 against Australia. But, the Aussies aced the run-chase to perfection, recording the highest successful run-chase in Champions Trophy history with consummate ease. Against Afghanistan, the Englishmen were bossing the game initially with their seamers flourishing but come the middle overs and the death overs, their bowlers lost the plot. They came close in the run-chase but the Afghanis held their nerves when it mattered the most.

Match Details

When: Afghanistan vs England, February 26, 2.00 PM local, 2.30 PM IST

Where: Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore

What to expect: If the Australia-England is anything to go by, there will be a truck load of runs once more. The recent tri-series featuring Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa also saw big scores. Lahore has hosed nine ODIs since 2022, five of which have been won by the chasing side, with 300-plus totals being gunned down in the last two games. The average first innings total in these nine matches has been 297. Dew could be a factor and that might prompt captains to bowl after winning the toss.

Team news

Afghanistan

Noor Ahmad had a forgettable outing against the Proteas although the wrist spinner did pull things back a bit at the back end. Still, he had expensive figures and with nature of the tournament's format, Afghanistan might opt to get Mujeeb-ur-Rahman into the XI at Noor's expense.

Probable XI: Rahmanullah Gurbaz(wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Gulbadin Naib, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman/Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqui.

England

There will be a forced change with Brydon Carse ruled out of the tournament. Gus Atkinson, Saqib Mahmood and Jamie Overton are all in with a shout of being the replacement in the XI. However, given that Overton has a far better batting ability while also being able to bowl at a reasonable pace, he might just edge the others.

Probable XI: Phil Salt, Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith(wk), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler(wk), Liam Livingstone, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood.

What to expect: Another docile pitch. And rain: a 62% chance of showers forecast for the afternoon strengthens to 71% in the evening.

Team news:

Australia

Not having Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis around didn't stop the Aussies from roaring to a rousing win over England. That should mean there's no reason to tamper with the XI.

Probable XI: Matthew Short, Travis Head, Steve Smith (capt), Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (wk), Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Spencer Johnson

South Africa

The elbow problem that kept Heinrich Klaasen out of the side who beat Afghanistan has not been resolved. He might have to sit out again.

Probable XI: Ryan Rickelton (wk), Tony de Zorzi, Temba Bavuma (capt), Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi

In a brilliant demonstration of batting ability, Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand has made history as the first player to score centuries on his debut in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy.

Rachin Ravindra's Remarkable ICC ODI Century Record:

It is Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand who has the distinction of making four centuries in just 11 ICC ODI innings. This extraordinary achievement also involved two hundreds in his World Cup and Champions Trophy appearances, which shows how good he has been in big tournaments.

World Cup Debut: A Record Innings

The incredible ride started for Ravindra, at the 2023 Cricket World Cup opener match with England. At 23, he scored an unbeaten 123 runs off 96 balls, his first ODI century. This achievement not only displayed his batting ability but also set records: it was the fastest century by a New Zealand batsman in World Cup history, done in just 82 balls. His stand with Devon Conway was fourth highest in World Cup history, a 273 partnership that helped New Zealand to a comprehensive win over the defending champions.

Champions Trophy Debut: Maintaining the Momentum

On February 24, 2025, in the ICC Champions Trophy in Rawalpindi, Ravindra sustained his fine form against Bangladesh.Coming in with New Zealand facing a testing situation at 15 for 2 while pursuing 237, he displayed calmness and class. Batting for the first time in his ODI career at No. 4, Ravindra made a masterful century from 95 deliveries, with 11 fours and a six. His vital stand with captain Tom Latham stabilized the innings and saw New Zealand home to a winning chase.

A Record-Breaking Phenomenon :

Ravindra's successive centuries in senior ICC tournaments have cemented his position as the emerging star in international cricket. He is following in the big shoes of other New Zealand cricketers like Chris Cairns, Nathan Astle, and Kane Williamson as the sixth New Zealander to have registered a century in the Champions Trophy.

His World Cup performance was no less impressive, scoring three centuries in his first World Cup—a World Cup first. He also became the youngest player to achieve three World Cup centuries prior to being 24 years old, breaking previous records held by Sachin Tendulkar.

<![CDATA[Bangladesh vs New Zealand, 6th Match, Group A : New Zealand won by 5 wkts]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/live/bangladesh-vs-new-zealand-6th-match-group-a-live-score-and-commentary/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/live/bangladesh-vs-new-zealand-6th-match-group-a-live-score-and-commentary/ Mon, 24 Feb 2025 05:18:40 GMT

Bangladesh find themselves in a tough spot after their defeat to India in the Champions Trophy opener, leaving them with little margin for error as they prepare to face a strong New Zealand side in the fourth Group A match. With a short tournament format, an early loss can prove costly, potentially forcing a team into must-win situations.

Despite a spirited fightback against India in Dubai—recovering from 35/5 to post 228 and making the opposition work hard for the chase—Bangladesh cannot afford further slip-ups. Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali provided stability with the bat on a sluggish surface, but the team will hope for a stronger showing from Soumya Sarkar, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to avoid another top-order collapse. Their bowling unit, particularly the slower bowlers, performed well, but improved discipline in line and length will be crucial.

New Zealand, in contrast, showed composure after early setbacks against Pakistan. Will Young and Tom Latham struck impressive centuries, while Glenn Phillips' quickfire fifty propelled them to a commanding total. Their bowlers then executed a clinical performance, combining pace and spin effectively to secure a dominant win. Having adapted well to conditions in Pakistan and maintaining an unbeaten run since the preceding tri-series, New Zealand will be confident of extending their momentum and strengthening their semifinal bid.

*Match Details:*
- Date & Time: Monday, February 24 at 2:30 PM IST (2:00 PM Local Time)
- Venue: Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
- Pitch & Conditions: Rawalpindi last hosted ODIs in April 2023, where Pakistan comfortably chased targets of 337 and 289 against New Zealand. The venue has seen seven centuries in five ODIs since 2010, suggesting a batting-friendly surface. Three of the five ODIs have been won by the team batting first, with one ending in a tie.

Team Updates

Bangladesh:
Mahmudullah, who missed the opener due to a calf injury, will undergo a fitness assessment before the match. If fit, he could replace Mushfiqur Rahim, with Jaker Ali continuing as the wicketkeeper. Towhid Hridoy has recovered from cramps sustained in the India match. Bangladesh may also consider bringing in express pacer Nahid Rana, who impressed in their Test series win over Pakistan in Rawalpindi, as a replacement for Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

Probable XI: Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim/Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Jaker Ali, Rishad Hossain, Tanzim Hasan Sakib/Nahid Rana, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman

New Zealand:
Rachin Ravindra was unavailable for the first game due to a forehead injury, but even if he recovers, New Zealand might stick with the same XI.

Probable XI: Devon Conway, Will Young, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (c), Nathan Smith, Matt Henry, William O’Rourke
