Punjab Kings opted to bowl after winning the toss and opener Quinton de Kock scored a 46 off 37 balls while Deepak Hooda added to that with a crucial 34 to take LSG to 153 for 8. PUnjab Kings were stopped at 133 for 8. Mohsin Khan really stood out with the ball for Lucknow, winning three wickets while Krunal Pandya bowled a stunning spell of 2/11. Punjab’s spearhead Kagiso Rabada was the choice of the bowlers as he bagged four wickets, including skipper KL Rahul’s.

Quinton and Rahul were at the crease with Arshdeep Singh with the proceedings where Rahul ended the over with a boundary. Rabada got him the next time he went back to the pavilion while de Kock got two back-to-back sixes. He took on Rabada and with great batting Lucknow was already dominating. Rishi Dhawan bowled the last over of the powerplay and ended it by conceding a boundary towards fine-leg. LSG scored 39/1 in 6 overs. Hooda had started the next over with a huge six against Dhawan and lofted the ball all the way over long-off. Quinton found a gap as he sweeped it towards fine-leg for a boundary against Rahul Chahar. It was a mighty good shot.

Sandeep came to bowl next and de Kock started it off with a four and followed it with another one which was carved to deep backward point but he was gone in the next ball. Krunal came in and straight away hit a four off Singh. Pandya went back to the crease and made a direct hit but with an excellent throw from Baristow he got run out. Hooda slammed consecutive two sixes but gave away his wicket just after that. After hitting two sixes Chameera too, departed against Rabada. Lucknow scored 144/8 in 19 overs. Arshdeep Singh bowled the last over for Punjab Kings and kept it tight. Mohsin Khan ended the over with a boundary, making it quite a good over. LSG finished their episode with 153/8 after 20 overs.

For PBKS, Mayank and Dhawan stood at the crease, with the former on a strike while Mohsin Khan opened the attack. It was a good start but the second ball went out of de Kock’s hands and resulted in a 4. Chameera bowled the second over and made Punjab struggle as the bowler spared only 2 runs. Mayank scored his first six in the innings against Mohsin and ended the over with a four. Pandya took another wicket and KL Rahul took a huge catch, making Rajapaksa depart. That was a crucial wicket for Lucknow. Punjab stood at 58/3 after 8 overs.

Bishnoi bowled the 9th over and a WIDE in the second ball with no ball to follow. PBKS needed to face a free-hit. Livingstone got bowled off the free hit ball and Bishnoi followed up with another WIDE and Punjab took 7 runs from that over. Bishnoi bowled the 11th over and was hit for six by Livingstone. The fourth ball was sent for a boundary by Baristow. Bishnoi seemed to give away runs way too liberally as he struggled to stop the Punjab batters. Taking away 18 runs from that over, PBKS posted 85/3 after 11 overs. Bishnoi’s balls kept getting hit for good scores from Punjab batters, much to Lucknow’s dismay. Avesh Khan came in the 17th over to bowl and he started with Wide. His second ball was hit for a four by Dhawan but he made a good comeback as the 3rd ball went straight through Dhawan. The umpire reviewed for a run out but the batter was saved.

Mohsin Khan took the wicket of Rahul Chahar in the last ball of his spell. Punjab stood disintegrated. Rishi hit a good shot against Chameera in the 19th over, he kept fighting but it was a lost cause at that stage. Punjab got only 6 off that over. Punjab required 31 runs from 6 balls and they started the last over with a six, a good shot by Rishi. Much to Avesh’s frustration, the next ball was also hit for a four. Avesh relieved the team with an excellent yorker as the next ball got just 1.

And just like that, Lucknow won by 20 runs. Although they won, de Kock wasn’t really pleased with today’s match but the bowlers performed well.

Nonetheless today’s match was low scoring as LSG were chasing an easy target, hoping to see more action next time!
