Last year, Australia made easy work of Sri Lanka in a World Cup encounter. They beat them in a T20 series later as well, but faced a reenergized Sri Lankan team in the other two formats. The energy though, was from the Final game of the T20 series, in which captain Dasun Shanaka chased 59 in the last three overs. He clearly led from the front that day, and Sri Lanka has not looked back since.

They are now Asian Champions and Australia are sure to be facing a different Sri Lankan team this time around. Australia too, are a little different from last time. The line-up is almost the same but still contains questions. Aaron Finch’s form is a concern, and the omission of Steve Smith leaves questions regarding the stability in a line-up full of power hitters. The loss to New Zealand exposed some gaps in the line-up and it will be interesting to see if they find a way to bring Steve Smith to add an anchor in the line-up.

Venue: Perth Stadium

AUS vs SL Weather Report

Perth is one of the hotter places in Australia right now, especially with rain in other parts of the country. The weather is clear and will hold good throughout the fixture.

AUS vs SL Pitch Report

The Perth track has more bounce in it and is little less helpful for spinners. Sri Lankan spinners though may enjoy the bounce as Afghanistan’s did. While batting second is usually a better option in T20 Cricket, with the bounce on offer, batting first may be better.

AUS vs SL Predicted Playing XI

Australia Playing XI

David Warner, Aaron Finch, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Tim David, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

Sri Lanka Playing XI

Kusal Mendis, Dhananjay De Silva, Charith Asalanka, Ashen Bandara, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara, Binura Fernando

AUS vs SL Key Players

Glenn Maxwell

Australia struggled badly in the first game, but one positive from it was Glenn Maxwell. While he did not set the stage on fire, he got some key batting time. In the twenty balls he faced, he played some nice strokes, and while the game was too far away by then, the time spent will help him a lot in the upcoming games. He has a nice record against Sri Lanka, and his game against spin will be very important as Sri Lanka are likely to come at Australia with a lot of spin.

Maheesh Theekshana

Maheesh Theekshana’s carrom ball is working wonders even in Australia. He is bowling well in the powerplay and will be a very big weapon for Sri Lanka against Australia. While there will be more bounce in Perth, it will interesting to see how he uses it along with his carrom ball.

AUS vs SL Match Tips

Sri Lanka are improving and competing nicely. Their spin approach though remains a question in Australia. Facing Australia at home is another challenge, and with Australia generally strong at home and good at staging fightbacks, they will likely take the upcoming game.
