Australia will be seeking the comfort of a day night test after being trashed in their own backyard at Perth. Can they fight back? They have fond memories against India at Adelaide where India were bowled out for 36 famously on their last visit. Hazlewood, a key part of that innings, is not here for this Test though with a side strain and India will now have to deal with another accurate bowler who can seam the ball around well in Scott Boland. Mitchell Marsh is another fitness concern and overall Australia will be watching their batting line-up. The key heads in Smith, Labuschagne and Khawaja are not in the greatest of rhythm and with David Warner retired, the kick in the top has been missing which is turning out to be a concern for the rest of the line-up.
For India, the win was a pretty commanding one but they do have some selection questions now. Rohit Sharma returns but who does he come in for? Does he open or bat in the middle with Rahul doing well at the top? Gill comes back as well but his spot in the batting line-up too remains a question. How about the bowling? Bumrah, Siraj and Rana are likely to stay but do India stick with Washington Sundar or do they go with Ashwin or/and Jadeja? Ravindra Jadeja's batting form gives him a case of batting higher in place of the likes of Jurel while also giving India the extra spin option in the form of one of the better spinners going around, while they can also continue to play Ashwin in the side.
Date: December 6th, 2024
Time: 9:30 AM IST
Venue: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
The Test could see some cloud cover throughout with spots of rain on both day 2 and day 5.
Teams generally prefer to avoid twilight in Day night tests and with some grass left on the surface there could be some more movement with the ball. Batting first though may still be a better choice with the pitch likely to take wear as it goes on.

Mohammad Siraj
Mohammad Siraj has bounced back after a tough home season. Bowling in Australia, the pitch has made him feel at home and he is applying pressure really well with the ball seaming around as he demands it too. While Bumrah has been among the wickets, Siraj silently continues to do his work well as he did last time in Australia as well.
Marnus Labuschagne
While the talk generally is about Steve Smith's mammoth scores against India in the past and Travis Head's recent love for the Indian bowlers, Marnus Labuschagne is one to silently watch. On the last tour to Australia, Labuschagne was consistent in making crucial fifties, and a hundred as well, batting out time and silently irritating the Indian bowlers.
Australia were hammered soundly in the first Test and will be coming into this one with a lot of questions to answer. Their batting line-up is a little worrisome but their record in pink ball tests speaks for itself and that could leave Australia marginal favorites.
