Recently Mohammad Amir called time on his international career at the age of 28.
Mohammad Amir has shown himself to be a talented bowler and faced various issues and struggles throughout his career.
There have been many famous incidents in the pacer’s career, from the match-fixing ban to mental torture.
Between all the struggles in his career, the bowler put up some beautiful performances.
His performances range from match-winning spells to single-handedly carrying the bowling attack, and he has also been a victim to many drops catches throughout his career.
Below are a few quality spells from Mohammad Amir.
3-18, Asia Cup 2016 vs. India, Dhaka:
Mohammad Amir came back strong after his ban
After the ban, Mohammad Amir and Pakistan took on India in a group stage game of the Asia Cup.
After a New Zealand tour, the Asia Cup was his second international outing that took place before the tournament.
Batting first, Pakistan collapsed for 83 with no batsman getting a start.
The score was too low to seem competitive, but Mohammad Amir came in with other ideas.
He ripped India’s top-order apart.
He dismissed Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan for ducks and had a great battle with Virat Kohli.
The two met for the first time after an encounter in 2010 and had contrasting career paths ever since.
While Virat Kohli built a remarkable career, Mohammad Amir was recreating a name for himself.
The two young stars took each other on, and the battle determined the result.
Mohammad Amir finished with three wickets, and his spell showed Pakistan what they missed over five years.
5-30 Vs. Australia, World Cup 2019, Taunton:
Mohammad Amir had a rough journey before the 2019 World Cup.
He didn’t make the list of probables, but found himself in the final squad, despite facing time away from the team.
His performance against Australia was proof of why Amir deserved to be in the squad, despite being out before the tournament.
He took five wickets and conceded thirty runs.
After a strong opening partnership, Amir’s wickets did not allow Australia to build on a beautiful platform.
He didn’t let the middle-order batsmen get big scores and put the brakes on Australia.
His spell was crucial, as he was the only Pakistan bowler who showed some fight.
With minimal support from the others, Australia made 307, which was too much for Pakistan.
5-52 vs. England, the Oval 2010:
Into his thirteenth Test, Mohammad Amir was bowling with Pakistan well placed at the Oval.
After a good batting performance, they were in the lead, and Pakistan was left to bowl England out quickly to have a smaller target on hand.
Young Mohammad Amir ensured England didn’t get too far ahead, as he produced an excellent spell.
He took five wickets as England were all-out for 222.
Barring Sir Alastair Cook, nobody managed a big score, and Pakistan were left with a target of 148.
With a low target, Pakistan achieved the score with four wickets to spare.
The chase wasn’t too comfortable but ended well, as Pakistan won their first Test of the series.
6-84 vs. England, Lords 2010:
The final Test of the series was one that Pakistan needed to win to level the series.
The final Test involved the infamous incident that damaged Mohammad Amir’s careers along with Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt.
Before the incidents came to light, Amir put up a superb performance in the first innings.
He was Pakistan’s best bowler, as he took six wickets.
England finished with 446, as Amir was the best bowler of the side.
His performance couldn’t inspire Pakistan as they suffered an innings defeat, and his spell was the only bright spot in a Test that made the headlines for many reasons.
His last Test was for a while as Amir was booked for spot-fixing and banned for five years.
After a six-for, being Banned was disappointing as it put a halt to what could have been an outstanding career.
3-16 Vs. India, Champions Trophy Finals, 2017:
The 2017 Champions Trophy Finals was a blockbuster event.
In a multi-national tournament final, India taking on Pakistan is one of the biggest match-ups in sport.
Considering the tournament’s sides’ performance, not many sides gave Pakistan as much a chance as India.
Defying all odds, Pakistan put up a spirited batting performance and made 338 in the first innings.
Though they got a mammoth score on the board, India still wasn’t out of the game.
India’s batsmen were in good form throughout the tournament, and with some beautiful chasers, 338 looked very getable.
India’s openers came in to bat with a lot of expectations of achieving the target.
Just as the batsmen had done in the first innings, Pakistan’s bowlers defied odds again, as they put up an outstanding performance.
The bowlers were led by Mohammad Amir, who played the most significant role in Pakistan’s defense.
Mohammad Amir removed India’s top three very early in the chase.
India’s top three had done the bulk of India’s scoring, and exposing the middle-order was the biggest priority in a high-pressure game.
Mohammad Amir ensured the job was complete, as he removed Rohit Sharma in the first over and Virat Kohli in the third over.
He removed Shikhar Dhawan a few overs later and set up a massive win for Pakistan.
His spell gave India no chance in the chase, and the performance was one of the best in a tournament final.
