Sunil Gavaskar has picked Virat Kohli’s successor as Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) captain for the upcoming 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Royal Challengers Bangalore picked two captaincy candidates on the first day of the mega auction in Bengaluru, Faf du Plessis, and Dinesh Karthik.
In addition to finding a replacement for Kohli after he stepped down at the end of IPL 2021, RCB went into the mega auction in Bengaluru last weekend with the added purpose of finding a new skipper. On the first day of the event, the franchise picked both Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik. However, in a conversation with Sports Tak, Gavaskar argued that RCB should hand over the responsibilities to Glenn Maxwell, who had been retained ahead of the auction along with Kohli and Mohammed Siraj. IPL viewers will see a completely different side of Maxwell if he is given the responsibility to lead the side. “In my opinion, if Maxwell is given this job, he will fulfill a different function within IPL. As a result of the mega auction last year, he batted brilliantly, but he was retained afterward, which I guess was good for him, ” Gavaskar explained.
Speaking on the subject on Saturday, Mike Hesson, Director of Cricket Operations at RCB, revealed that while the franchise has three leadership options, they are yet to have a discussion over them.
