Sri Lanka are in a bit of trouble. They have been losing players with injuries and disciplinary issues and will have to hope their squad depth can carry them forward as they shift their sites towards the 2023 World Cup. They have a tough opponent ahead as Afghanistan has had the better of them on a few occasions recently, although in the shorter format.

Mohammad Nabi has just stepped down as captain and will have to step with performances to ensure he doesn’t face any issues going forward. He remains one of their best players and with the upcoming World Cup likely to be his last, he will want to ensure he is around till then.
Wanindu Hasaranga has highlighted Sri Lanka’s spin stocks. Theekshana though has been just as good, supporting him, and will hope to step out of the shadows with some strong performances in helpful conditions.
Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, but struggled in subsequent contests. Sri Lanka too are struggling with player loss but may still back themselves to come out on top.
