A splendid bowling display from Mayank Markande (4/15) followed by a composed 74*-run-knock from Rahul Tripathi helped SRH edge over PBKS, to register their first win in the IPL 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. SRH defeated PBKS by 8 wickets inside 18 overs.

Speaking about the game, invited to bat first, PBKS lost PrabhaSimran Singh in the very first ball of the innings, as he succumbed to Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s fearsome delivery. Marco Jansen then chipped in with wickets in his consecutive overs to send Matthew Short and Jithesh Sharma for 1 and 4 runs respectively.

However, Shikhar Dhawan kept the scoreboard ticking along with Sam Curran, as the duo added 41 runs for the fourth wicket. Mayank Markande, then broke the good going partnership by picking Sam Curran with a peach, from thereon wickets kept felling at regular interval as no batter other than Dhawan and Curran crossed the double-digit score.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan, kept piling runs at one end by registering his 49th fifty in the Indian Premier League. Shikhar Dhawan remained unbeaten on 99 from 66 balls to help PBKS post a manageable total of 143/9 in 20 overs, his knock included 17 boundaries.

For SRH, Mayank Markande was brilliant as he picked up 4/15 in his spell of four overs. In response to 143, highly invested Harry Brook, who was promoted up the order did not live up the expectations as he was cleaned up by the beauty of Arshdeep Singh for 13 runs.

Mayank Agarwal had a start but wasn’t able to go big as SRH was put into trouble at 45/2 in 8.3 overs. The duo of Aiden Markram and Rahul Tripathi led the recovery in the low-scoring chase as they added an unbeaten 100-run stand to take SRH through the finish line. Rahul Tripathi aggregated 74* runs from 48 balls that included 13 boundaries.
