The finalists of 2014 edition Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders are all set to face each other in the match number 2 of the Indian Premier League 2023 on April 1st 2023, at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. Both the teams had a IPL to forget in the last season, having placed at sixth and seventh in points table. KKR will be missing the services of their captain Shreyas Iyer, regular member of KKR unit Nitish Rana is set to lead them in Iyer’s absence. Meanwhile, PBKS have reported many injuries before the start of the league, as expected Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out for them and Liam Livingstone is set miss the first game due to injury, while Kagiso Rabada will be joining the team little late due to national commitments. PBKS will also have the new captain in the form of Shikhar Dhawan. Addition of Sam Curran to the team has added extra balance in both departments. KKR have traded their old campaigner in the form of Lockie Ferguson to add strength to good-looking-bowling unit.
