The Abu Dhabi T10 league continues to make headlines in the cricketing world for all the wrong reasons. In yet another shocking turn of events, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka completely loses the plot during a league stage match between Delhi Bulls and Bangla Tigers on November 25. 

Dasun Shanaka commits a costly blunder

The cricketing world experienced a rare event that left everyone in disbelief. Playing for Delhi Bulls, Shanaka was tasked with bowling the penultimate over in which the all-rounder gifted 30 runs in just three deliveries including four five fours and a six in tandem with four no-balls. 

Yes, you read it correctly! By the time he reached the halfway point in the over, Shanaka had already conceded a whopping 30 runs which by contemporary standards is simply unthinkable. However, he conceded only three singles from the next three balls, thus finishing the over with 33 runs.

Scoring 30 runs in an over in the shortest format is a rare occurrence but to be able to do that in the space of only three deliveries is simply ou, shocking.

Shanka faces match-fixing allegations after this game 

After that infamous 33-run over that last 10 balls, the Sri Lankan all-rounder faces potential match-fixing charges. Many believe that Shanaka may have been a part of a much broader spot-fixing scandal. Concerns are starting to mount with many questioning the legality and fairnes of the tournament. Very recently, UAE bowler Hazrat Bilal raised eyebrows by bowling an enormous no-ball which was more than foot and a half beyond the popping crease.

Incidents like these tremendously undermine the spirit of the game often putting it in disrepute. ICC being the sole governing body for cricket must take charge of the situation and oversee the tournament more closely in an effort to keep the sport 'clean'.

Team Abu Dhabi and Chennai Braves both had some struggles towards the back end of last season. They have some new players in their side now and will hope for changes in fortune.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has unveiled their first-ever ten-over contest, the Lanka T10, set to unfold between December 12-23 in Colombo. Player auctions for the league are slated for November 10th. Concurrently, plans for a women’s T10 league during the same dates are also in discussion.

“The evolution of cricket now includes the T10 format, gaining traction among fans. We’re thrilled to embark on this new endeavor and are optimistic about the maiden Lanka T10’s success,” expressed SLC president Shammi Silva.

SLC will collaborate with T Ten Sports Management to spearhead the Lanka T10 event. This team previously orchestrated the Abu Dhabi T10, Zim-Afro T10, and the United States Master T10 leagues.

T Ten Sports Chairman, Shaji Ul Mulk, spoke of the collaboration, “Over the years, we’ve not only validated T10 as a genuine cricket format but also highlighted its entertainment value.”
