BCCI honours team India with special 'Champions Rings' on winning the T20 World Cup.

For the very first time, and an initiative unprecedented in history, BCCI gave exclusive 'Champions Rings' to Team India on Wednesday, acknowledging its stupendous success in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Such honors go well beyond what one experiences as standard cricketing tradition but mirror rather American sports practices in institutions such as the NBA and NFL.

Team India’s campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup was nothing short of extraordinary and players traditionally receive trophies, medals, or cash prizes. In contrast, rings might be a more personal and long-lasting tribute to the hard work of the players and theirs for the team. The ring has become a symbol of India's dominance in the tournament and, for the players, a reminder of the historic feat.

A New Era in Cricket Recognition
While championship rings are a familiar concept in American sports, it is a new and innovative concept in cricket. BCCI has set a precedent that may change the way cricketing achievements are honored in the future by adopting this tradition. The rings are not just awards; they are a testament to the team's unity, perseverance, and excellence on the global stage.

Saturday evening in Mumbai was the day of the BCCI award, which was known as the Naman Award 2025. Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was honoured with the Col. C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award. At the end of the evening ceremony, the legendary cricketer gave valuable advice to the new generation of cricketers.

Col. C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award: Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar tirelessly served India in international cricket for about 24 years. The right-handed batter recorded 15921 Test runs, 18426 ODI runs, along with 10 T20I runs. Also, as a spinner, he took 46 Test wickets, 154 ODI wickets, and only one T20I wicket. He made huge contributions to the national team, which achieved massive international successes during his period, including winning the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

For his incredible talent and great behaviour, Sachin is respected by the entire cricket world, as he lifted the country's name to the top in the best possible way.

Sachin Tendulkar inspired Indian youngsters

During the Naman 2025 ceremony, the anchor of the evening, Harsha Bhogle, asked Sachin Tendulkar to end the evening with his inspirational speech to the new generation of Indian cricket. 

On the special evening, Sachin said, "I think I would say without cricket, all of us wouldn't be sitting in this room. See, for me, it has been the ultimate gift of my life. 

"We have bat and ball, and if there is no solid grip over that, you start losing grip over bat and ball. You kind of slowly start losing grip over your career also. I should not be giving you advice and saying stay focused whatever but there'll be distractions. Don't let them disrupt your career. Value everything that we have and look after your game. 

"It is about we all have managed when we did not have anything. It is important to value when we have everything and behave in the appropriate manner to take the game forward and the country's name. 

"Like I said, you all are current cricketers there is plenty of cricket left in you. Just go out, give your best, and make the most of this opportunity because you'll only realise once you've stopped playing cricket, where you were a few years ago. So, all the very best to you."

Sachin Tendulkar Receives CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at BCCI Naman Awards

Mumbai, February 1, 2025 – Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar was conferred upon with the highest honour given by India's cricket governing body to one of its own as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) bestowed him with the much revered CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the BCCI Naman Awards.
The moment the name of Tendulkar was announced, the whole gathering stood up as one to welcome the legendary cricketing icon into their midst in a grand ovation. They showered immense respect and reverence for the sporting legend. It was a highly emotional and nostalgic moment as every individual present saw it as reminding him of that two-decade long career where Tendulkar had served his nation by his game.

He thanked the BCCI for giving him this huge honor in the acceptance speech during his speech and said that along with discipline, dedication, there are values that are also inherent in the game. "Cricket has given me everything in life, and I am deeply humbled to receive this award. I only hope to further inspire young cricketers by following their hearts and working as hard as their dreams," he said.

Quite a few former cricketers were present at the event, some of whom remain in the Indian national team as well, besides top BCCI officials. Quite a few among them shared the memories of their watching Tendulkar bat and how they got inspired because of him and how his colleagues remembered his phenomenal work ethic, humility, and commitment to cricket as tireless.

During the BCCI annual awards ceremony, Naman Awards 2025, the Indian Test and ODI captain and T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma spoke about his popular forgetting memory. 

Mumbai hosted the Naman Awards 2025 on Saturday evening, where many Indian cricketers were present. There was a moment when Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma, Smriti Mandhana, Hardik Pandya, and Jemimah Rodrigues were present on the stage.

Rohit Sharma talked about teammates teasing

Indian women’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who won the Highest Run Getter in Women's ODI 2023-24 and Best Women's International Cricketer 2023-24 awards, asked questions to Rohit Sharma. 

Mandhana asked Rohit what’s the one hobby he picked up recently, and the teammates teased him. While there was no answer from Rohit about his recent hobby, he pointed out his forgetting memory which his teammates teased him. 

Talking about it, Rohit claimed that the story about forgetting his wallet, passport, etc. happened like couple of decades back.

Mandhana then asked Rohit what was the biggest thing he had ever forgotten. The T20 World Cup-winning captain quickly replied that he couldn’t say it live. He added that his wife would be watching it and he wanted to keep it secret to himself.

This is considered to be the most prestigeous award granted by the BCCI to a person who has significantly contributed to Indian cricket.
A Prestigious Honor
It's named after the Colonel C.K. Nayudu, the first-ever Test captain for India. The award includes a trophy, a citation, and also a cash prize of ₹25 lakh. For years now, this prestigious accolade has been given to legendary cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath, and many such iconic figures who left a stalwart mark on Indian cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar's glorious career:
Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history, having played for a record 24 years. The records he set include being the only player who has scored 100 international centuries and the first to hit 200 runs in a One Day International (ODI). Contributions to Indian cricket and inspiration for generations of young cricketers around the world have been some of his impacts.
Tendulkar made his debut in international cricket at age 16 in 1989 and broke so many records in all formats of the game. The BCCI Naman Awards Ceremony is planned to take place just the day before the much-anticipated fifth T20I between India and England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 2, 2025. In anticipation of the IND vs ENG first Test match in Hyderabad, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to revive the prestigious Naman Awards ceremony after a four-year hiatus. The ceremony, dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of Indian cricketers, returns for its latest edition before the much-anticipated match.

Notable awardees include Shubman Gill, named Cricketer of the Year, and former India head coach Ravi Shastri, honored with the Lifetime Achievement award. The Naman Awards also shine a spotlight on emerging talents in Indian cricket who have excelled in domestic competitions.
