Due to an injury, Mumbai Indians star pacer Jofra Archer will miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2023. Throughout the tournament, the star English speedster struggled with fitness issues, and he also missed five of Mumbai’s ten matches. Chris Jordan, an additional English veteran who joined Mumbai’s team last week, is named as Archer’s replacement.

The Mumbai Indians have confirmed Jofra Archer’s departure and stated that the English Cricket Board (ECB) will monitor the pacer’s recovery

Due to injury, Archer has missed numerous England matches over the past two years. The last time he played in a Test match was in February 2021. Archer is likely to be included in England’s squad for the 2023 Ashes, which begin on June 16 in Birmingham. On June 1, England will also play a one-time Test against Ireland at Lord’s, but it will be too soon for Archer to play again.

Archer’s performance in IPL 2023 was clearly affected by his struggles with injury, as he only took two wickets in five innings at a poor economy rate of 9.50. His most recent appearance was on May 6 when Mumbai played Chennai Super Kings, but he didn’t take any wickets and defended 139 runs.

<![CDATA[Chris Jordan believes England emerged stronger from the T20 World Cup heartbreak]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/chris-jordan-believes-england-emerged-stronger-from-the-t20-world-cup-heartbreak/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/chris-jordan-believes-england-emerged-stronger-from-the-t20-world-cup-heartbreak/ Tue, 12 Oct 2021 13:15:59 GMT

Chris Jordan has convinced England’s heartbreaking defeat in the last T20 World Cup final helped them become a calmer, wiser side as they try to recapture the trophy five years later. When Jordan delivered the penultimate over of the 2016 tournament at Eden Gardens, it looked to have all but sealed a second T20 World Cup triumph for Eoin Morgan’s men. The West Indies needed 27 runs off the last 12 balls and Jordan held his nerve to cough up just eight from his six deliveries. What happened next is for the history books, with Carlos Brathwaite launching Ben Stokes for four consecutive sixes to seal a dramatic victory against the odds.

Stokes remains on an indefinite break from the game but seven of the shellshocked England XI from that night in Kolkata are part of the squad that will open their T20 campaign against the Windies on October 23 and their previous meeting in the competition is sure to loom large over proceedings. Jordan, recalling events from the team’s training base in Oman said: “I bowled my last over under what was quite immense pressure, and when I bowled a dot ball on that final ball, it definitely did feel a lot closer than it ended up.

“That’s part of the learning, part of having that experience because having that feeling after that ball… I’ll never take myself to that place ever again. I definitely won’t be thinking that way after bowling the 19th over until it’s fully, fully over.

“It’s funny, we tend to have a laugh about it now. But we definitely came out stronger for it as a unit and as a team. “I wouldn’t say it really haunted us too much, that’s part of the sport, that’s part of life. Someone has to come up victorious and for something like that to be done in the last over, you can’t really write that.” Jordan suggested England, who went on to win the 50-over World Cup in 2019, made a conscious decision not to get hurried along in the frantic finishes that short-form cricket can frequently throw up and now have the cool heads they need to prevail.

T20 World Cup will be tough but we are prepared.

“One of the things that stick out to me is how quickly that last over went. I remember going into a few games after that and, when we did get in those situations, we just started to slow the game down a bit more so our decision making was much clearer,” he said. “Then you saw that going into the 2019 T20 World Cup. The team was on autopilot really, in any situation you just saw the game started to slow down a little bit and everyone came up with an informed and correct decision.

“For this team, having been together for so long, the chemistry is there, the talent is there. All the ingredients are there for us to make a decent run in this campaign as well.”

While Jordan has played Tests and ODIs for England, he has increasingly been used as a 20-over specialist in recent years. “It is a role he has embraced, to the point that he is their third-most capped player in the format, behind skipper Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler, and the record wicket-taker with 73. When Morgan wants advice from his seamers, it is Jordan he seeks out more often than not. “I guess that’s something that I’ve sort of transitioned into, given that I have had the privilege of seeing so many different surfaces and experiencing quite a few different things,” he explained.

“I try to just quickly get a read on the pitch, on conditions, and on the opposition. I try to bounce my ideas as much as possible at Morgy. “Obviously he is a very experienced captain and has seen even more than I have but just to be there as another ear, another voice is something that I really enjoy.”

<![CDATA[IPL 2021: KL Rahul roars to silence Chennai Super Kings]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/kl-rahul-roars-to-silence-chennai-super-kings/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/kl-rahul-roars-to-silence-chennai-super-kings/ Thu, 07 Oct 2021 13:56:39 GMT

KL Rahul playing blinders to score runs galore and yet Punjab Kings not making enough progress in the IPL has become a familiar occurrence. This season too hasn’t been any different. But then Rahul decided to end their league campaign differently. Thanks to captain Rahul’s blitzkrieg (98 not out off 42 balls) and their bowlers’ impressive performance early on, Punjab signed off with a bang, thrashing Chennai Super Kings by six wickets with as many as seven overs to spare in their final game of the league phase at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, quicks Arshdeep Singh and Chris Jordan’s early strikes had the Super Kings wobbling at 42/4 in the ninth over, a situation from which they couldn’t really recover. Courtesy Faf du Plessis’ 76, the Super Kings scrambled to a modest total of 134/6. But the Dubai wicket being much better for strokeplay, Rahul latched on to the opportunity to lead his team to a comfortable victory.

Barring Dwayne Bravo, none of the other CSK bowlers have passed their prime or are in the twilight of their careers, and that makes Rahul’s innings a more special one. Be it playing the pull, the lofted shots over mid-wicket or mid-off, or even the off-drives, Rahul creamed everyone, rendering the rival bowlers clueless. Such was his timing that even a paddle sweep-like attempt off Deepak Chahar sailed into the stands. The rhythm that Rahul, back to being the top run-getter (626) this season so far, is in at present augurs really well for Team India with not too many days left for the T20 World Cup, which will also be held in the UAE.

Punjab, though, have only themselves to blame for their inconsistency. If not for the mess they had made versus Rajasthan Royals, failing to get only four runs off the final over despite having eight wickets in hand, they would have been in a better position on the points table. As for Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Co., losing three matches in a row going into the play-offs underlines the chinks in their armor, which need to be addressed as early as possible.

KL Rahul played a stupendous knock and lighted up the Dubai Cricket Stadium with some firework as Punjab Kings inflicted third straight defeat on a hapless Chennai Super Kings in their IPL match on Thursday. Rahul made a light work of the modest total of 137 and tore apart Chennai’s toothless attack to steer Punjab to a six-wicket victory with seven overs to spare. With the victory, Punjab climbed to the fifth spot in the points table but they depend on the results of other teams for a playoff berth.

Rahul takes it away with ease.

Rahul smashed an unbeaten 98 off 42 deliveries, hitting eight towering sixes and seven boundaries. How brutal was Rahul, it was evident from the fact that he added 46 runs for the first wicket with Mayank Agarwal in which, the contribution of the latter was only 12? The Punjab captain made his intentions clear from the word go as he took 11 runs off first over bowled by Deepak Chahar with the help of two boundaries. Despite the fact that two wickets fell in quick succession, Rahul kept on going at full throttle and there was no looking back for the Punjab opener.

In the process, he also scored the sixth fifty of the season and became the only batsman to breach the 600-run mark in this edition of the IPL. Earlier, Chennai, who seemed to have peaked too early in the tournament, now seems to be struggling when it matters the most. Their batting line-up has completely collapsed and all their top batsmen are struggling for the runs. Their middle-order looks completely out of color and not more than one batsman is clicking in a match.

Chennai is relying too much on the opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis. If one of the opening batsmen does not click, they struggle to reach a score of 100. Both du Plessis and Gaekwad have scored more than 500 runs each in the tournament and are at the second and third spot respectively in the list of the highest scorers. Du Plessis continued his stellar form and scored the fifth fifty of the tournament.
