Karun Nair came agonizingly close to pulling off a stunning turnaround for Delhi Capitals with a brilliant 89-run knock, which pushed Mumbai Indians (MI) to dig deep into their bowling reserves. In response, Trent Boult unleashed six consecutive yorkers to keep DC at bay.

The clash between MI and DC was a tightly contested affair. After setting a strong total of 205 in the first innings, MI looked in control. But when Nair walked in, he changed the momentum with his composed and powerful batting. Having already made waves in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, Nair nearly rescued DC from a tough spot. At the time of his dismissal, the scoreboard read 135/3, and Delhi still had a fighting chance.

However, DC's resistance crumbled after Nair’s exit. MI bowlers, led by the experienced Trent Boult, turned up the heat and ensured their team registered their second win of the season.

Boult's over-shifted momentum

Trent Boult delivered a brilliant spell under pressure, firing one pinpoint yorker after another at the Delhi Capitals batters. With the required run rate climbing, DC needed to rotate strike quickly to stay in the game. But, Boult’s relentless accuracy made scoring nearly impossible. Each delivery targeted the base of the stumps or landed perfectly in the blockhole, giving the batters no room to work with. The pressure mounted with every ball as Boult maintained complete control, showcasing his experience and skill in closing out tight games.

Watch the video here:

That over undoubtedly added immense pressure on the Delhi Capitals batters, contributing to their eventual collapse, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Ultimately, Mumbai Indians secured a hard-fought 12-run victory. So far, the 35-year-old left-arm pacer has had a relatively quiet IPL 2025 season, managing just 5 wickets in 6 games. This is in contrast to his performance last year with the Rajasthan Royals, where he claimed 16 wickets in 15 matches. For Mumbai Indians to build momentum and push ahead this season, seasoned players like Trent Boult need to step up and deliver consistently.

<![CDATA[WATCH IPL 2025: Umpire checks Hardik Pandya’s bat before he walks out to bat in DC vs MI clash]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-ipl-2025-umpire-checks-hardik-pandya-s-bat-before-he-walks-out-to-bat-in-dc-vs-mi-clash/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-ipl-2025-umpire-checks-hardik-pandya-s-bat-before-he-walks-out-to-bat-in-dc-vs-mi-clash/ Mon, 14 Apr 2025 09:35:37 GMT

An unusual moment unfolded during the IPL 2025 clash between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as MI captain Hardik Pandya’s bat was subjected to a rare on-field examination. Just as Pandya walked out to bat in the 14th over, the umpire halted him for a detailed check using a bat gauge to ensure the bat met the legal specifications. The moment quickly went viral, sparking widespread debate and curiosity across the cricketing world.

The inspection was brief but thorough, with the umpire confirming that Pandya's bat adhered to ICC regulations before allowing him to proceed. The timing of the inspection, right in the middle of a high-pressure game, caught everyone—including commentators and fans—off guard. Though equipment checks are part of the rules, such instances are hardly seen mid-match, especially with high-profile players, adding a strange twist to the encounter.

Despite the buzz, Pandya’s time at the crease was short-lived as he managed to score only 2 runs. The bat-checking incident, combined with his early dismissal, added to the game’s drama, which already featured Karun Nair’s explosive 89 and a dramatic collapse by Delhi Capitals in the death overs. The moment added an extra layer of intrigue to a match packed with action and unexpected developments.

In a nail-biting IPL 2025 encounter, the Mumbai Indians edged past the Delhi Capitals by 12 runs in front of a packed crowd. MI set a daunting target of 205/5, led by a solid 59 from Tilak Varma and a fiery unbeaten 38 off 17 balls from Naman Dhir. On the bowling front, Kuldeep Yadav impressed DC with economical figures of 2/23, while Vipraj Nigam delivered key blows by dismissing Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya.

Delhi’s chase got off to a rocky start, with Jake Fraser-McGurk falling on the first delivery. But Karun Nair ignited hope with a brilliant 89 off just 40 balls, smashing 12 fours and 5 sixes. Abishek Porel added a useful 33, but once Nair was dismissed, the Capitals’ innings began to crumble. Karn Sharma’s three wickets turned the tide, and Mitchell Santner’s vital scalps, including the big wicket of Nair which pretty much sealed the momentum for MI. Delhi reached 193 in 19 overs but couldn’t cross the line, bringing their unbeaten streak to an end while MI bagged two crucial points.

<![CDATA[Karun Nair announces his IPL comeback in style with blazing knock against MI after 7 years]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/karun-nair-announces-his-ipl-comeback-in-style-with-blazing-knock-against-mi-after-7-years/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/karun-nair-announces-his-ipl-comeback-in-style-with-blazing-knock-against-mi-after-7-years/ Sun, 13 Apr 2025 18:21:34 GMT

It was a night to remember in the Arun Jaitley Stadium as Karun Nair rewound the clock with an aggressive 89 from 40 balls, his first IPL half-century in seven years. As a game-changing replacement, the 33-year-old was on a mission, decimating the bowling attack of the Mumbai Indians (MI) and paving the way for Delhi Capitals' pursuit of 206.

Karun Nair walked in as early as the second ball of the innings following Jake Fraser-McGurk’s golden duck. What unfolded next was a batting masterclass from the right-hander. Facing the formidable Jasprit Bumrah, Nair confidently struck two boundaries in the pacer’s opening over. He then went on a rampage in Bumrah’s next, smashing two massive sixes and collecting 18 runs off it. By the end of the powerplay, Delhi Capitals had raced to 72 runs—largely due to Nair’s explosive start at the crease.

This match marked Karun Nair’s first appearance in the 2025 season, brought in as a replacement for the injured Faf du Plessis. Acquired for ₹50 lakh in the mega auction, the right-hander had spent the first four games on the sidelines before finally getting his opportunity—and he seized it in style. Nair’s blistering innings included 12 boundaries and 5 towering sixes, the highlight being a flicked maximum off Jasprit Bumrah that even earned a slow clap from MI captain Hardik Pandya. Although Nair was eventually dismissed by Mitchell Santner, he had already placed Delhi Capitals in a commanding position.

Karun Nair's Comeback Story

Once a Test triple-centurion, Karun Nair had faded from the spotlight in recent years. His last IPL half-century came back in 2018, and despite being part of the LSG squad in 2023, he didn’t get a single game. However, his impressive performances on the domestic circuit during the 2024-25 season made a strong case for his return to the big stage.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: 255 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 177

Vijay Hazare Trophy: 779 runs, getting out only once, with a surreal average of 389.50, hitting five hundreds

Ranji Trophy: 863 runs from 16 innings as Vidarbha won the title

It was on 10 December 2022 that Nair tweeted, "Dear cricket, give me one more chance." And it was on this Sunday evening of April 2025 that he grabbed that opportunity with both hands.

MI Set the Stage With 205/5

Earlier, MI had scored 205/5 after being sent to bat. Tilak Varma's fifty in just 26 balls, Surya Kumar Yadav's elegant 40, and a late burst by Naman Dhir propelled the visitors to a commanding total. Rohit Sharma (18) and Ryan Rickelton (41 off 25) provided MI with a quick start, but Kuldeep Yadav and young Vipraj Nigam brought MI back with key wickets.

Vipraj was particularly dominant, taking three huge wickets: Rohit, Surya, and Hardik Pandya. DC had MI reeling at 146/4 after 15 overs at one stage. Tilak and Dhir later contributed crucial runs in the death overs to take MI beyond 200.

Nair's thrilling innings went viral on social media. Fans cheered the fairytale return of a player who had waited patiently and worked tirelessly in domestic cricket for two years. His knock also initiated discussions about the need to provide domestic performers with a genuine opportunity in the IPL framework. At the end of the game, DC lost the match and went all-out for 193 in 19 overs.

The April 13 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at Arun Jaitley Stadium was a high-octane affair, with DC winning the toss and opting to bowl. MI, after their team scored 205/5 in 20 overs, delivered a gripping 12-run triumph. With this win, MI have moved to seventh spot, while DC have slipped to second spot on the points table of IPL 2025.

Mumbai Indians Innings

Mumbai Indians started their innings with the bat and scored 80/1 after the powerplay ended because Rohit Sharma hit 49 runs from 28 balls, and Ryan Rickelton collected 32 runs from 20 balls. During the innings, Tilak Varma made 68 runs from 39 balls, including five fours and three sixes, while Suryakumar Yadav scored 28 off sixteen balls to sustain the team's momentum. MI secured 205/5 runs by having Hardik Pandya deliver an undefeated 22 from his 12 balls. A mishap by Ashutosh and Mukesh during the 17th over occurred while they chased a flying shot hit by Mohit Sharma, resulting in a dropped catch. Ashutosh left the field for medical checks, which harmed DC's fielding performance. Mitchell Starc took 2/40 for DC.

Delhi Capitals Innings

The opening partner of DC named Jake Fraser-McGurk (0) left the playing field after the initial over. Delhi Capitals achieved 135/3 when KL Rahul hit 45 off 30 deliveries and Karun Nair batted for 40 balls to score 89 runs with 9 fours and 4 sixes. After Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets for 28 runs the collapse began which resulted in a ten-run victory for Mumbai Indians as Delhi Capitals wrapped up at 193/10. DC's lower order players had great difficulty changing the strike during the final two overs because they scored only twelve runs during that period. A disciplined display from Bumrah and his coworkers in the death overs brought victory to MI as the bowling unit.

DC vs MI: Post-Match Reactions

 • Mitchell Santner (MI): Expressed his enthusiasm about securing a nail-biting victory. IPL matches frequently remain tight throughout, so winning brings exceptional satisfaction to the players. What a match! Those three final run-outs created pure madness at the ground. Boult delivered six amazing yorkers while under pressure, and Sharma took crucial wickets, which changed the course of the match. Here, the small boundaries prompted bowlers to adopt smart bowling strategies to keep the runs under control, and we achieved that objective successfully.
 • Axar Patel (DC Captain): "Where’d the game go? To Mumbai (laughs). The team maintained a healthy momentum throughout the first half of the innings until the fifteenth over, where the team lost control. The superb batting from Karun ended after his dismissal, creating a sudden loss of momentum for our side. Those 19th-over run-outs were costly. The team needs better practice at running while maintaining a composed mindset during crucial situations.

 • Hardik Pandya (MI Captain): "Proud of the team’s fight. All team members displayed their brilliance, in addition to Bumrah's superb over and Karn's valuable wickets and crucial run-outs. We’re finding our groove now." (Paraphrased.)
 • Karn Sharma (MI and Player of the Match): The Player of the Match award feels particularly rewarding to me reports. I maintained a tight line because the pitch offered spin, which led to those important three wicket takings. Our performance succeeded because our entire team provided collective support to each other. (Paraphrased.)

Karun Nair stole the spotlight at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday with a blistering assault on Jasprit Bumrah, hammering 18 runs off a single over and putting the MI pace spearhead on the back foot. In the sixth over of Delhi Capitals’ innings, Nair launched two back-to-back sixes and a four, finishing the over with two more boundaries to complete a remarkable 18-run display.

Bumrah, known for his pinpoint accuracy, had a rare off day, conceding 29 runs from just two overs—an uncharacteristic outing in his otherwise consistent IPL career. Nair’s explosive 89-run knock looked destined for a century before it was cut short, but his fearless hitting laid a solid foundation for Delhi Capitals in their high-pressure chase.

MI win by 12 runs

In a thrilling IPL 2025 showdown, Mumbai Indians clinched a narrow 12-run victory over Delhi Capitals in front of a packed stadium. Batting first, MI put up an imposing total of 205/5, thanks to a powerful 59 from Tilak Varma and a blazing unbeaten 38 off 17 deliveries by Naman Dhir. Kuldeep Yadav stood out for DC with figures of 2/23, while Vipraj Nigam made an impact by removing both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya.

Chasing 206, Delhi Capitals suffered an early setback as Jake Fraser-McGurk departed on the very first ball. However, Karun Nair rose to the occasion with a sensational knock of 89 off just 40 balls, laced with 12 boundaries and 5 sixes, keeping DC’s hopes alive. Abishek Porel added 33, but frequent wickets after Nair's dismissal derailed the chase.

Karn Sharma’s 3-wicket haul proved decisive, while Mitchell Santner’s two crucial breakthroughs—including that of the well-set Nair—helped MI regain control. Despite reaching 193 in 19 overs, Delhi fell short as Mumbai’s bowlers held firm under pressure. The victory earned MI two valuable points and ended Delhi Capitals' unbeaten run in dramatic fashion.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium saw a dramatic moment during the 29th match of IPL 2025 as the Mumbai Indians traveled to play the Delhi Capitals in a tight fight. Delhi chose to bowl and Mumbai openers started aggressively, being headed by Ryan Rickelton's 41 from 25 deliveries. The South African left-handed batsman played the ball sweetly, setting the pace early on, before being foxed by a traditional Kuldeep Yadav googly.

As the innings went on, Mumbai appeared to be in command. Tilak Varma, who walked in after the loss of a few wickets, stole the initiative with a positive mindset. He attacked the DC bowlers and started to pick up steam when the turning point of the innings almost came in the 13th over.

Costly Confusion in the Outfield

Vipraj Nigam, the left-arm bowler, floated one away outside off to Varma, who tried to slog it out over long-on. What ought to have been a routine catch was turned into a comic-tragic situation. Tristan Stubbs and Jake Fraser-McGurk were rushing in towards the ball, Stubbs from long-on and McGurk coming from deep midwicket. The South African slowed down because he was nervous about colliding with his Aussie mate mid-pitch. That moment’s delay left him mispositioned, and despite stretching for the catch, he spilled it. To make matters worse, the ball trickled over the ropes for four, rubbing salt into Delhi’s wounds. While DC’s fielding faltered, their spin duo held firm. Kuldeep Yadav was impressive again, dismissing both Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav (40 off 28), while Nigam accounted for key wickets of former skipper Rohit Sharma and current skipper Hardik Pandya.

Even with their batting depth, MI are struggling in IPL 2025. With just one win from five matches and being ninth in the table, each match is a do-or-die encounter. DC, by contrast, have four wins and are as close to unbeaten as anyone can possibly be and look like a serious title contender.

Stubbs' missed chance may not hurt DC on the scoreboard today, but these moments tend to swing momentum in T20 cricket, and Delhi will hope it does not come back to bite them.

After an unforgettable domestic cricket season, Karun Nair returns to the IPL in a fiery fashion as his stormy batting disrupted strong Mumbai Indians bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah.

The 33-year-old Karun Nair made his IPL return after two years, as he was the impact sub for Delhi Capitals against Mumbai Indians in Delhi during the 29th match of the IPL 2025. The no.3 batter came to the crease on the second ball after the DC opener Jake Fraser-McGurk was dismissed for a golden duck.

Karun Nair makes IPL comeback with his highest IPL score

IPL 2025 unbeaten side Delhi Capitals was chasing the 206-run target. It was Karun Nair who started to bash Mumbai Indians bowlers to make the chasing story incredible. At the end of the powerplay, Nair's fiery batting made the hosts the little favourite in the high chase, as Delhi Capitals scored 72/1 in six overs, and Nair scored 50 runs in 22 balls with eight fours and two sixes.

It was Nair's first IPL half-century in seven years (last time recorded in 2018), while he also missed out on the last two IPL seasons. After the powerplay, his boundary hitting was at rest for sometimes, but he fired back from the tenth over. Before Mitchell Santner dismissed Nair, the right-handed batter slammed a six and four fours in the previous five straight balls. Nair scored 89 runs off 40 balls with the help of 12 fours and five sixes. It was also his highest score in his IPL career, while his previous best was 83 not out in the IPL 2016.

During the DC versus MI IPL 2025 match at Arun Jaitley Stadium, the play stopped abruptly after DC’s Ashutosh Sharma and Mukesh Kumar collided on a chase for a catch. The collision took place at a crucial moment in the high-pressure game, which created worry among spectators, who briefly stopped the game while it was at a tense point.

Mumbai Indians finished their 17th over with 205/5 runs as Tilak Varma continued his flow of batting before Mohit Sharma from DC released a length ball. The ball flight from Varma needed Ashutosh, who was placed at mid-on, and Mukesh, running from the boundary, to arrive simultaneously. During their aggressive run, the two fielders collided forcefully against each other in the middle of the pitch before the ball fell away as they dropped to the ground in pain. Medical staff immediately entered the field before Ashutosh left for testing, even though Mukesh decided to continue playing after a brief break.

Impact on Game and Player Concerns

DC suffered an avoidable wicket following the collision between its players, thus producing distress within their community and substantial admiration for their dedication. Both Mukesh and Ashutosh risked everything on that play, but their collision turned out to be concerning for viewers. Fans expressed concern for their fast recovery through this comment on social media. According to the team coach, their unfortunate misfortune had occurred. The team doctor watches over Ashutosh's status while Mukesh appears stable, though the staff keeps an eye on him.

This incident demonstrated the lack of pressure-responsive fielding coordination within DC's department. The explosive batting of Ashutosh along with Mukesh's fiery bowling holds a crucial position within Delhi Capitals, and their absence in IPL 2025 would impact their competitive performance. Mumbai scored 206 with controlled batting, despite which a dangerous fielding incident became the main point of discussion. People throughout the cricketing community must wait for health updates from the players before anticipating their return to the field to show their batting and bowling abilities.
