Two former cricketers, now cricket pundits, Simon Doull and Harsha Bhogle, explain why Sai Sudharshan's play style looks different than other batters playing in the Indian Premier League. There was only one instance so far in the tournament where Sai Sudharsan did not manage to build a solid innings, which was against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He got only 5 in this match. 82 against Rajasthan Royals, 59 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, 63 vs Mumbai Indians, and 74 in the Punjab Kings match. Overall, the GT opener has bagged 273 runs in 5 matches—the second highest run getter in IPL 2025, just behind Lucknow Super Giants's Nicholas Pooran, who has 288 runs with his name.

Bhogle made a statement by saying, "I can't define him in a way." Followed by a Simon Doull word, "True." Doull was impressed by the left-hander's choices of shot and skills to improvise a shot. After defeating Rajasthan Royals, GT is now at the top of the ladder and a clear favorite to win IPL 2025. If Sudharsan continues his form like his, it is possible that in the near future he can be graced with the purple cap. 

In IPL 2025, the match was played between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team. In this match, the Gujarat Titans defeated the Rajasthan Royals team by a huge margin of 58 runs and registered another win. Batting first, the Gujarat Titans scored 217 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, thanks to Sai Sudarshan's 82 runs. In reply, the Rajasthan Royals team was bowled out for 159 runs in 19.2 overs. Apart from this, Prasidh Krishna took three wickets for 24 runs.

Coming to bat first against the Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans team captain Shubman Gill was clean bowled by Jofra Archer and could score only two runs. After this, Jos Buttler and Sai Sudarshan took over the innings at number three. Sai played an innings of 82 runs in 53 balls with eight fours and three sixes. While Butler scored 36 runs in 25 balls with five fours. Apart from this, Shahrukh Khan also played a fast innings of 36 runs with four fours and two sixes in 20 balls.

Due to this GT made a huge total of 217 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Rahul Tewatia also played an unbeaten inning of 24 runs with two fours and two sixes in 12 balls. While Tushar Deshpande and Mahesh Theekshana took the maximum two wickets each for Rajasthan. RR team could not chase the big target.

Chasing the target of 218 runs given by the Gujarat Titans, RR did not have a good start, and its opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (6), while Nitish Rana (1), who came at number three, could not do anything special. Due to this, the team lost two wickets for just 12 runs. After this, Sanju Samson scored 41 runs with four fours and two sixes in 28 balls. While wickets kept falling at the other end as well. Due to this, Rajasthan had lost six wickets for 119 runs. After this, the RR team could not do anything special and collapsed at 159 runs. Prasidh Krishna took the maximum of three wickets for Gujarat.

Gujarat Titans (GT) kept their winning streak alive by defeating the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Narendra Modi Stadium on April 9. The Subhman Gill-led side became number 1 in the IPL 2025 points table, overtaking the Delhi Capitals (DC). GT outscored RR by a 58-run margin.

Toss and The First Innings

After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson, invited Titans to bat first. GT took the invitation with open arms and scored 217 in exchange for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Continuing his dream IPL 2025 run, Sai Sudarshan achieved his fourth half-century in five games off 32 balls. He missed his ton by only 18 runs. The 23-year-old Indian cricketer stitched his 82-run innings with eight 4s and three 6s. After the departure of GT captain Gill (2), England star Jos Buttler and emerging Indian batter Shahrukh Khan accompanied Sudarshan with 36 runs each, and Rahul Tewatia played a run-booster knock with a 200.00 strike rate, scoring an unbeaten 24 of 12 balls. In the second innings, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced a steep chase of 218 but faltered under pressure, getting bowled out for 159 in 19.2 overs, falling short by 58 runs. The innings got off to a shaky start with early dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal (6) and Nitish Rana (1), leaving RR struggling at 12/2. Captain Sanju Samson tried to anchor the innings with an aggressive 41 off 28 balls, while Shimron Hetmyer put up a strong fight, scoring a blazing 52 off 32.

However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to contribute meaningfully, with eight players dismissed for single-digit scores. GT’s bowlers maintained tight lines and capitalized on the pressure. Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 crucial wickets, while Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore took two wickets each. Shubman Gill (GT Skipper): "It was a good total to have on the board and acknowledges that the first 3-4 overs weren’t easy.  Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler batted was tremendous and adds that they would gladly take 217 any day of the week. The bowling effort was clinical and highlights that everyone is chipping in."

Sanju Samson (RR Skipper): "We gave away an extra 15-20. We wanted to up the ante, they lost a wicket. When I was batting with Hetmyer, the ball was coming on nicely, and felt we can chase it down. We had a decent partnership and then lost a flurry of wickets, and that’s where we lost the game."

Gujarat Titans With Their Third Win In The League
Gujarat restricted mighty SRH within 153 runs and to win their historic game they needed to chase 154 runs within 20 overs, but Gujarat Titans lost their two for middle batsman Sai Sudharshan and Jos Butler who were the heroes of the last game. Though Captain Gill and Washington Sundar retaliated in the innings, that too Sundar was taking some risks to clear the boundary which benefitted GT a lot. Both ensured a secure partnership and were heading towards victory. 

Washington Sundar was added for this game, though he wasn't able to get the ball in hand but gave a huge impact with the bat, when Jos Butler's wicket was down ultimately the pressure built up for GT. Washington Sundar had other plans he counter-attacked the SRH bowlers with boundaries and sixes which just shifted the momentum to the GT side. Both Gill and Washington Sundar played brilliantly, but against the run of play, Washington Sundar was caught out, and the remaining procedures were taken care of by Rutherford and Gill.

Subhman Gill as captain is improving a lot, getting the tosses right, use of bowlers, field placements and today the tactics of playing Washington Sundar and bringing him up the order. Ashish Nehra too deserves applause for guiding the team in the right way and ensuring everything goes right. 

Gujarat Titans (GT) won against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 7 wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday. Mohammad Siraj was on fire with the ball, picking up 4 wickets for just 17 runs. His early strikes put SRH on the back foot right from the start of the innings. Sai Kishore and Prasidh Krishna also did a good job, taking two wickets each, and they controlled runs in the middle overs.

In a cruel twist of fate in Match 19 of IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans' Glenn Phillips got what seemed to be a groin injury while attempting a fielding act, putting a cloud on his debut game for the season.

Phillips, who came in as a substitute fielder, was a part of a routine fielding action in the sixth over of Sunrisers Hyderabad's innings. With Prasidh Krishna bowling to Ishan Kishan, the left-handed batter drove the ball to point and took a quick single. Phillips reacted sharply, running in and letting out a crisp throw in the direction of the stumps. But as soon as he had released the throw, he fell to the grass, cradling his groin in apparent agony.

The stadium audience gasped as the Kiwi all-rounder stayed motionless for a couple of seconds. The Gujarat Titans' physio rushed out immediately, and following some delay, Phillips was helped off the field, clearly in pain. The injury remains to be officially determined by the franchise.

Gujarat Titans Hit by Early Setback

The match was fought out after what had been an electrifying beginning to the game. Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to field first, looking to cash in on SRH's recent run of poor form. Three consecutive losses had brought them down to the bottom rung of the points table.

Mohammed Siraj provided GT with a flying start, relegating Travis Head in the very first over for a meager 8 runs. The old pacer went on to complete his 100th IPL wicket by dispatching Abhishek Sharma for 18, caught by Rahul Tewatia. Prasidh Krishna continued with the rout by removing Ishan Kishan, caught for 17, leaving SRH at 50/3 after eight overs.

Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen then began rebuilding, rescuing a 50-run partnership to steady the ship. Klaasen was the more aggressive of the two, thrashing 27 off just 19 balls before falling to R Sai Kishore in the 14th over. The left-arm spinner struck again some time later, dismissing Reddy for a handy 31, leaving SRH at 105/5 as they headed towards the second time-out.

Phillips's injury is not just a disappointment on a personal level but also a strategic blow to the Gujarat Titans. IPL 2025, Match 19: SRH vs GT - Playing XIs status

SRH's batting is deeply struggling, and over-aggression is the main reason for their batting failure. After scoring the first century in the IPL 2025 (106*), Ishan Kishan’s next scores were horrible with 0, 2, and 2 runs. Except for Travis Head, there is no confident starter in the SRH batting line-up.
