Following a dip in Steven Smith’s performance, Joe Root has risen to the 2nd spot in the ICC Test batting rankings, trailing behind Kane Williamson of New Zealand. Smith’s recent struggles saw him drop below 800 points for the first time since 2014, benefiting Root who showcased his form with a century against India in Ranchi last month.

Smith’s decline coincides with his new role as Australia’s Test opener, with scores of 31 and 0 in the recent Test against New Zealand further contributing to his fall. Meanwhile, Marnus Labuschagne, another former top-ranked batter, exits the top ten after a dismal performance, alongside Tr

Cameron Green emerges as a significant climber in the batting rankings after his match-winning 174 not out against New Zealand, catapulting him 22 places to 23rd position. Meanwhile, Williamson maintains his lead with a comfortable margin over Root, thanks to his exceptional record of seven centuries in his last eight Tests.

ICC Men’s ODI Rankings: Four years ago, a promising young Indian batsman made his debut against the formidable New Zealand bowling attack in Hamilton, offering fans a tantalizing glimpse of his future potential. The anticipation surrounding him was so immense that even the great Virat Kohli endorsed his prodigious talent as “ten times” greater than his own when he was 19.

Dominance in the ODI Rankings

Although Shubman Gill’s inaugural ODI innings didn’t quite meet the lofty expectations, it served as a preview of his eventual batting mastery in the years to come. Fast forward to November 8, 2023, Gill accomplished a remarkable feat, ascending to the World No.1 ranking in just 41 innings in his career, a feat surpassed only by the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

On the other hand, Indian pace sensation Mohammed Siraj has once again ascended to the pinnacle of the rankings, with a rating of 709. This marks his third stint as the top-ranked bowler. He initially claimed the top spot between January and March 2023 but temporarily surrendered it to Josh Hazlewood.

However, Siraj’s exceptional performance in the Asia Cup, where he secured ten wickets with an impressive average of 12.20, propelled him up the rankings by eight positions, restoring him to the summit. Most recently, the Hyderabad prodigy overtook Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi to reclaim his crown.

Babar Azam’s reign as the top-ranked batter endured an impressive 950 days, and it took a remarkable year of exceptional form for Shubman to finally dethrone the Pakistani captain. As of now, the Indian opener boasts a six-point lead over Babar, with a rating of 830 to Babar’s 824.

Gill’s ascent to the summit was powered by his outstanding performance in India’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup campaign. Notably, he becomes only the fourth Indian player to hold the coveted No.1 ODI batter ranking, joining the elite company of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.

Gill’s meteoric rise to the top can be attributed to his exceptional form in 2023, accumulating an impressive 1449 runs in 26 innings during the calendar year, including 219 runs from six innings in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s exceptional showing in the World Cup propelled him three positions up the rankings, placing him just one rating point away from South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, who currently holds the third spot. Notably, Indian captain Rohit Sharma secured the sixth position in the latest rankings.

The bowling rankings also feature a strong Indian presence, with Kuldeep Yadav climbing three places to secure the fourth position, Jasprit Bumrah advancing three spots to claim the eighth position, and Mohammed Shami surging seven places to comfortably settle in the 10th position.

Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, continues to maintain his status as the No.1 ranked all-rounder. Additionally, Team India retains its commanding position at the top of the rankings, a testament to their consistent excellence.

After India’s 2-1 series victory over Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that took place just a few days ago, a number of Indian cricketers, including Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Axar Patel, have made significant advancements in the ICC Test rankings. Driving the way is Virat Kohli, who after a hole of more than three years, scored his most first Test century and was hence moved seven spots to be positioned No. 13 out of the total.

At one time, the No. After a string of poor performances, Kohli, the No. 1 batter in all formats, dropped out of the Top-10 in July of last year. While he still hasn’t broken into the Top 10, his 186-run outing for Indian fans is hopefully a sign of things to come.

Being India’s highest and overall second-highest BGT 2023 run-getter resulted in a seven-place jump

He is only ahead of Rohit Sharma (10th) and Rishabh Pant (5th), two Indians. Only Usman Khawaja had more runs in the series than Kohli did.

Even though Kohli didn’t score a lot, the former India captain showed signs of being free-spirited throughout the series. After a 44-run innings in Delhi, which many thought was his best performance in a long time, he held up one end in the series decider. India took the lead and batted out Australia in 1205 days thanks to Kohli’s 28th Test century.

Ashwin, on the other hand, established himself as the sole No. 1 after supplanting James Anderson at the top, the No. 1 bowler

Ashwin and Anderson were selected as the joint No. 1 contenders after a pitched battle. One of the highest-ranked ICC Test bowlers, his 32nd five-wicket haul in Ahmedabad propelled him to 869 points, 10 points ahead of the legendary England pacer.

Ashwin, with 26 wickets in the series was pronounced the Player of the Series, imparting the distinctions to turn accomplice Ravindra Jadeja. Ashwin scored two 5-wicket hauls in the series, 5/37 in Nagpur and 6/91 in Ahmedabad, in addition to four 3-wicket hauls. utter dominance.

Axar, like Kohli and Ashwin, was lavishly rewarded for enjoying a memorable series. Although the left-arm spinner only took two wickets, his batting, in which he scored 264 runs, including three half-centuries, propelled him up eight spots to number 44 on the list of Test batters. In the first Test, Axar scored a career-high 84 runs, and in the second, he scored 74 runs in Delhi to help India secure comprehensive victories. Both of these performances came at crucial points in the match when his team was most in need of them.

As if that weren’t enough evidence of how far Axar’s batting has come, the all-rounder hit an amusing 79 against his hometown of Ahmedabad, providing Kohli with company for a massive 262-run partnership.

Australia also got a boost from the recognition given to Usman Khawaja, Cameron Green, and Travis Head for their performances. Khawaja, who topped the list with 333 runs, moved up two spots to be ranked seventh. All-rounder Cameron Green, who scored his first Test century, moved up 11 spots to be ranked 26th, a career high. <![CDATA[Mohammed Siraj Becomes ICC No. 1 ODI Bowler In The World]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/mohammed-siraj-icc-no-1-odi-bowler-in-the-world/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/mohammed-siraj-icc-no-1-odi-bowler-in-the-world/ Sat, 28 Jan 2023 22:18:08 GMT

India quick Mohammed Siraj has capped off a superb 12 months by claiming the No.1 spot on the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings for bowlers from New Zealand seamer Trent Boult. Hailing Siraj, Ashwin said that the fast bowler has the full repertoire, from outswingers and inswingers to bouncers and slower balls. India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey challenged Siraj to work on certain aspects of his game in the middle of last year and the extra training the energetic quick has put in has paid off in spades judged on recent performances.

In the latest ICC ODI rankings for bowlers, Siraj claimed the top spot for the first time in his career, pushing behind Australia’s Josh Hazlewood and New Zealand’s Trent Boult. While the Indian fast bowler has 729 points in the bowling rankings, Hazlewood is on 727 and Boult on 708. Siraj was the leading wicket-taker in the one-day series against Sri Lanka, claiming nine scalps in three matches at an average of 10.22. He impressed in the subsequent ODIs against New Zealand as well, picking up five wickets in two games at an average of 11.20.

Apart from his bowling performances, Ashwin also extolled Siraj for maintaining a positive attitude irrespective of the results. He also opposed those who criticized the fast bowler for being too expensive in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Not only has Siraj’s form over the last 12 months been imperious, but his efforts in ODI series at home earlier this month against Sri Lanka and New Zealand has shown just how much the right-armer has improved in recent times. Describing the right-arm pacer as a cricketer with a big heart, Ashwin commented:

“World’s No. 1 ODI bowler. What does he not have? If you want outswinger, he has it. If you want inswinger, he has it. If you want bouncer, he has it. If you want a slower ball, he has it. If you want him to become No. 1 bowler, he can become that too.

It’s a remarkable rise for Siraj, who only returned to India’s ODI setup in February last year following a three-year hiatus without playing a 50-over match at the international level. Since then Siraj has collected 37 wickets from 20 matches to be one of India’s most consistent fast bowlers and the accolades have started to pile in for the underrated 28-year-old.

On Tuesday, Siraj was named in the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year and on Wednesday the right-armer had another reason to celebrate as he went past Boult and Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood to become the top-ranked ODI bowler for the very first time.
