The 33rd IPL 2025 game between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is in progress at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Having won the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya chose to field first, unleashing his speed triumvirate at the beginning of the powerplay. It worked in their favor in the beginning, and SRH was only able to muster 15 runs in the first two overs.

But a worrying moment came in the third over when Deepak Chahar bowled to Abhishek Sharma. The left-hand opener came down the track but was cramped for space and pulled the ball off the inner half to mid-wicket. The ball short of length dropped on the half-volley and landed just short of MI leg-spinner Karn Sharma, who tried a low catch. Unfortunately, the ball hit his bowling hand quite forcefully, inflicting a split webbing bleed injury. Karn quickly requested the doctor and made his way off the field, throwing doubts regarding his return during the match.

Injury Scare for MI as Karn Sharma Walks Off Bleeding

The loss of Karn is a concern for Mumbai, particularly considering he had contributed heavily in the match against Delhi Capitals, where he picked up three decisive wickets. With the experience and being a middle-over game-stopper, his exclusion may harm the bowling balance for MI in the second innings.

While that was happening, SRH also overcame a nervous beginning to reach a fighting 162/5 in their 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head contributed a solid partnership, but routine breakthroughs by MI kept SRH in check. Abhishek, who had batted royally in the last match against Punjab Kings with a 141, couldn't repeat his heroics here but still played a useful innings.

As the game enters the chase, everyone will look to see if Karn Sharma gets back onto the field. MI, coming off their 12-run thriller vs DC, will look to keep their momentum going, while SRH will try to defend their score and look to carry their winning streak. The Wankhede is set for a cracking finish.

<![CDATA[ IPL 2025: Glenn Phillips gets injured after coming in as substitute fielder against SRH]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-glenn-phillips-gets-injured-after-coming-in-as-substitute-fielder-against-srh/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-glenn-phillips-gets-injured-after-coming-in-as-substitute-fielder-against-srh/ Sun, 06 Apr 2025 15:47:08 GMT

In a cruel twist of fate in Match 19 of IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans' Glenn Phillips got what seemed to be a groin injury while attempting a fielding act, putting a cloud on his debut game for the season.

Phillips, who came in as a substitute fielder, was a part of a routine fielding action in the sixth over of Sunrisers Hyderabad's innings. With Prasidh Krishna bowling to Ishan Kishan, the left-handed batter drove the ball to point and took a quick single. Phillips reacted sharply, running in and letting out a crisp throw in the direction of the stumps. But as soon as he had released the throw, he fell to the grass, cradling his groin in apparent agony.

The stadium audience gasped as the Kiwi all-rounder stayed motionless for a couple of seconds. The Gujarat Titans' physio rushed out immediately, and following some delay, Phillips was helped off the field, clearly in pain. The injury remains to be officially determined by the franchise.

Gujarat Titans Hit by Early Setback

The match was fought out after what had been an electrifying beginning to the game. Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to field first, looking to cash in on SRH's recent run of poor form. Three consecutive losses had brought them down to the bottom rung of the points table.

Mohammed Siraj provided GT with a flying start, relegating Travis Head in the very first over for a meager 8 runs. The old pacer went on to complete his 100th IPL wicket by dispatching Abhishek Sharma for 18, caught by Rahul Tewatia. Prasidh Krishna continued with the rout by removing Ishan Kishan, caught for 17, leaving SRH at 50/3 after eight overs.

Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen then began rebuilding, rescuing a 50-run partnership to steady the ship. Klaasen was the more aggressive of the two, thrashing 27 off just 19 balls before falling to R Sai Kishore in the 14th over. The left-arm spinner struck again some time later, dismissing Reddy for a handy 31, leaving SRH at 105/5 as they headed towards the second time-out.

A Blow to GT's Bench Strength

Phillips's injury is not just a disappointment on a personal level but also a strategic blow to the Gujarat Titans. Chosen for ₹2 crore at the IPL 2025 mega-auction, the New Zealand sensation was envisioned as a utility player providing explosive batting, valuable bowling, and excellent fielding to the side. In a twist of fate, it was his opening match of the season on the field, and as a replacement player to boot.

Although he hadn't yet been included in the playing XI, Phillips had been a vocal figure in and around the squad, celebrated for his athleticism and upbeat attitude. Off the field, he's equally celebrated for his sporting multidisciplinary approach, having attempted golf, archery, and padel between cricketing activity.

Earlier in the season, Phillips had also shown concern regarding the Impact Player rule, noting how it would make it more difficult for all-rounders like him to push their way into the team. His injury now adds to the uncertainty regarding his role and availability in the future. While their camp has not been officially reported, initial signs point to a hamstring or groin pull, both of which have differing recovery periods. Medical professionals advise that slight pulls may take mere weeks to get over, while severe cases can take over a month or risk a player missing the remainder of his season.

For the time being, the Gujarat Titans will hope for the best as they juggle a crowded schedule and aim to keep going on a high after an impressive beginning to their campaign. As for Glenn Phillips, fans across the globe will be wishing him a quick recovery and hoping to be back watching him do what he does best illuminating the field with his never-ending energy and game-altering talent.

Pakistan opening batsman Usman Khan has been excluded from the second ODI against New Zealand following a hamstring injury he picked while playing in the first match of the series at Napier's McLean Park on Friday. The 29-year-old, who played his first ODI in the same game, injured his hamstring while fielding.

A Promising Debut Cut Short
Usman was impressive in his first outing in ODIs, with a rapid-fire 39 off 33 balls at the top of the order. He was only added to Pakistan's side for this series late on, having got his chance after an impressive T20I series against New Zealand. His promising beginning has been cut short by this premature injury.

<![CDATA[LSG speedster Mayank Yadav set to miss the remainder of IPL 2024]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/lsg-speedster-mayank-yadav-set-to-miss-the-remainder-of-ipl-2024/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/lsg-speedster-mayank-yadav-set-to-miss-the-remainder-of-ipl-2024/ Sat, 04 May 2024 13:18:23 GMT

Mayank Yadav, the Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) pacer, is facing a setback in IPL 2024 as he is set to miss the remainder of the tournament due to injury. Despite hopes for a potential return in the playoffs, the situation remains uncertain, adding to the challenges for the player and his team.

Head Coach Justin Langer’s Insights

LSG’s head coach, Justin Langer, provided insights into Mayank’s injury and the team’s outlook moving forward. While expressing optimism for Mayank’s recovery, Langer acknowledged the harsh reality of the situation, indicating that it might be challenging for the young bowler to return for the latter stages of the tournament.

Head coach Justin Langer said: “No, we’ll be praying that he can play, hopefully, in the playoffs, but I’m a realist as well. It’ll be probably difficult for him to get up for the back-end of the tournament. He’s had a scan. He’s got a small tear in a similar area to where his last one was. So it’s very unfortunate.”

The severity of Mayank’s Injury

Mayank’s injury, as revealed by Langer, involves a small tear in a similar area to his previous injury, casting doubt over his immediate return to action. Despite the positive signs during his rehabilitation, the setback is disheartening for both Mayank and LSG, considering his impact when he returned to the field earlier in the tournament.

Head coach further stated, “He’s got huge potential. But his rehabilitation was excellent. He went into the game [against MI], had a couple of bowls before the game. He was completely pain free. So it’s very sad for him and it’s disappointing for LSG as well that he might [not[ play the rest of the tournament.”

Mayank Yadav’s Performance in IPL 2024

Mayank had burst onto the scene this IPL with returns of 3 for 27 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and 3 for 14 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), regularly hitting 155kph and making batters hop. He won the Player-of-the-Match award in both games. In his third game, against Gujarat Titans (GT), he bowled only one over before going off and sat out five games before returning against MI. But unfortunately he left the field in his last game after having bowled just 3.1 overs against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday.
