After 29 years of wait Pakistan is hosting a major ICC event. Past-time Champions Trophy winners are hosting the event. Pakistan plays its first match on 19 February and is been out of Champions Trophy 2025 within 6 days of the gap.

Pakistan lost the match against their arch-rivals India, where Virat Kohli's brilliant century paved the salvation of the victory but this could have been changed if Pakistani players had used the opportunity.

Virat Kohli Obstructing The Field

India was on to the chase and they lost a few quick wickets at the start though Virat Kohli and Iyer were there to rescue. The incident happened in the 21 over of the match when Kohli played a shot on the offside and took a quick single, even Kohli reached the bowling crease but the fielder threw the ball and he tried to catch the ball which depicted but the ball passed through Kohli gloves and standing behind Babar Azam too misses the ball. This was even highlighted by Sunil Gavaskar who was doing commentary at that time stating that Kohli shouldn't have done that otherwise, it would have been a big mistake.

But the issue there arises that none of the Pakistan team appealed to the umpire about this. Yes, this would have been given out on certain circumstances which depends on the third umpire call it would be a chance of 60-40 where he could be given out for obstructing the ball.

How It Been Measured

Obstructing The Field is a rule that if any batter who tries to cover the flow of the ball to not reach the stumps thrown by the fielder that is called Obstructing the field and in this case the batter is given out for relevant disturbance which had happened earlier too in cricket field. There have been several instances earlier too in the cricket field.

Match between Bangladesh and New Zealand where Mushfuqir Rahim was batting and hit the ball over cover fielders fields and threw the ball though being inside the crease he deflected the ball with a bat and the New Zealand players started appealing for it umpire gave it out for obstructing the field.

2. The second case was a match between India and Pakistan where Sreesanth was bowling to Inzamamul Haq he stroked the ball and the ball went straight back to Sreesanth he collected it throws it back to him because he was quite upfront though Inzamamul Haq stopped the ball with bat though standing diagonal where wickets were just side opposite and the appeal for obstructing the field happened and he was given out through the through was deliberately on him

So in the same case if any Pakistan players had appealed for it there would be a possible chance Virat Kohli would have been given out and the scenario would have been different because India too had lost wickets in regular intervals it was Kohli who stabilised if at that time anyone would have been appealed it would have been a tricky chase for India but for now its one opportunity. Now Pakistani players have been criticised on social media for how they missed this opportunity.

<![CDATA[Virender Sehwag Names His 5 Greatest ODI Batters; Kohli at No. 1, Sachin at 2]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-stats/virender-sehwag-names-his-5-greatest-odi-batters-kohli-at-no-1-sachin-at-2/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-stats/virender-sehwag-names-his-5-greatest-odi-batters-kohli-at-no-1-sachin-at-2/ Mon, 17 Feb 2025 16:25:17 GMT

Sehwag, who is a legends of the game himself, called Kohli his favourite batter due to his knack to chase targets. "Kohli is a master of chases “, Sehwag said. He is very good in chases and he seems to get the job done every time."

Why Kohli Pipped the Master Blaster?

Sehwag has a lot of respect for Tendulkar but he has ranked Kohli as No. 1 for his consistency and match-winning ability along with the phenomenal record Kohli has in ODIs.

The Indian trails No. 1 Sehwag, who is hailed as the greatest ever batter. “It’s because Tendulkar is my idol,” Sehwag said. “He is my biggest batman I have ever seen. He taught me a lot about how aggressive you can be up there at the top of the order."

At No. 3, Sehwag chose former Pakistan middle-order batter Inzamam-ul-Haq, who reigned in the 1990s and 2000s. His top two were Indian batters — Sachin Tendulkar at No. 2 and Virat Kohli at No. 1.

The rest of the three batters on Sehwag's shortlist are:
3. Inzamam-ul-Haq
4. AB de Villiers
5. chris Gayle

"All these batters are legends, Sehwag said. “They all have a legacy in ODI cricket.”
Virender Sehwag has jaw-dropping stats of his five ODI batters. Sachin Tendulkar is still the leading run-scorer in ODI as he amassed 18,426 runs at an average of 44.83 and a strike rate of 86.23 across 463 matches. Now the guy with the more hundreds than anyone (50) in limited-overs cricket is Virat Kohli with 13,963 runs at an average of 57.93 with a strike rate of 93.52 in 297 matches. Seventh on 11,739 runs at 39.52 and strike rate of 74.24 in 378 matches. The only batsman to have scored 9,577 runs at an average over 50 and a strike rate over 100 or above is AB de Villiers, who had 228 ODIs with an average of 53.50 and a strike rate of 101.09. Gale who was an explosive batter scored 10,480 runs in ODIs at an average of 37.83 at a strike rate of 87.19.

Sehwag's statement will invite controversy but only proves the greatness of both Kohli and Sachin. Both batters have achieved incredible things in ODI cricket and they are both deserving of a place in any all-time list.
