Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd came into T20 franchise cricket in 2008 by launching the Mumbai Indians. Over the years, MI has grown into one of the most successful teams in IPL history. Their early seasons were tough, but they finally got their trophy in 2011 by winning the now-discontinued Champions League T20. The real breakthrough came in 2013 when they not only clinched their first IPL title but also added another CLT20 trophy to their cabinet.

Since then, Mumbai Indians have gone on to become the most successful team in the league with five IPL titles. After winning IPL titles in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, Mumbai Indians' owners, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), began expanding the MI franchise by launching teams in overseas leagues, starting with the ILT20 in the UAE and the SA20 in South Africa.

The owners of MI have now also entered in the England and Wales Cricket Board's The Hundred competition by buying 49 percent stake in the Oval Invincibles, two-time champions already. MI will hope to add The Hundred also to their franchise soon.

In 2022, Mumbai Indians introduced two new teams MI Emirates in Abu Dhabi for the ILT20 and MI Cape Town in South Africa for the SA20. A year later, they expanded further by joining the newly started Women’s Premier League (WPL) and Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA. While they won the inaugural title of the WPL as Mumbai Indians, and MLC as MI New York, the MI franchise had to waited long time for titles in the ILT20 and the SA20 leagues. MI landed the ILT20 trophy in 2024, and completed their trophy with the SA20 title in 2025.

The toss played a crucial role in determining the course of the game. RCB’s captain, Smriti Mandhana, won the toss and opted to bat first. This decision set the tone for the match, with RCB aiming to set a challenging total for MI to chase.

Ellyse Perry’s Heroics

RCB’s innings began differently than planned, as they lost vital wickets early in the innings. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine fell victim to the relentless MI bowling attack, leaving RCB in a precarious position. However, amidst the early setbacks, Ellyse Perry emerged as the saviour for RCB. Perry showcased her class and composure, anchoring the innings with a brilliant knock of 66 runs. Despite Perry’s heroics, the rest of the RCB batting lineup struggled to make significant contributions.

Shreyanka Patil’s Crucial Contribution

In response to RCB’s total of 135/6, MI started their chase with determination. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, MI fought valiantly to chase down the target. However, RCB’s bowlers, particularly Shreyanka Patil, bowled with precision and control, picking up crucial wickets at regular intervals.

The Final Verdict

As the match approached its climax, the tension in the stadium reached a fever pitch. With every delivery carrying immense significance, both teams battled fiercely till the end. In the final over, RCB defended their total with determination, denying MI the final push they needed to secure victory. With this thrilling win, RCB secured their place in the final. They will now face the formidable Delhi Capitals in what promises to be an epic showdown.

Women’s Premier League: Who said what at the toss?

Smriti Mandhana – Today, we would prefer to bat first. As an eliminator, runs on board are definitely important. Hopefully, it will start to quiet down in the second inning. Today, we have not changed. There were many highs and lows during the competition. We are going to gain a lot of benefits from the last game.

Harmanpreet Kaur: In addition to being quite perplexed, we also wanted to bat first. Yastika is returning for Bala today. The last time we batted first, we had a terrific powerplay. After that, we didn’t go any farther. Much has been learned by us. In certain areas, even the bowling was good. It’s a fresh day, so maybe we accomplish what we had planned. It’s critical to remain present in the moment. We wish to give it everything we have since this game is crucial.

Perry’s Impact: Bangalore Secures Playoff Spot in Style

Bangalore’s journey into this crucial match was marred by a narrow defeat against Delhi in their previous outing, a loss that saw them fall short by a mere run. However, determined to bounce back, they approached their final group stage fixture with renewed vigor. The early loss of both openers, Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Molineux, may have unsettled their batting lineup momentarily, but Richa Ghosh’s resilience and ability to capitalize on opportunities turned the tide in their favour.

A dropped catch early in Ghosh’s innings proved costly for the opposition, as she capitalized on the reprieve to deliver yet another impactful performance. Supported by the steady presence of Ellyse Perry, Ghosh formed a formidable partnership that not only stabilized Bangalore’s innings but also propelled them towards victory.

Despite the initial setbacks, Bangalore’s batting unit showcased remarkable composure and resilience, seizing control of the match with a determined display. Richa Ghosh emerged as the linchpin of their innings, displaying both skill and temperament as she capitalized on the chances that came her way.

Her partnership with Ellyse Perry proved to be the turning point of the match, as they combined forces to steer Bangalore towards a crucial victory. This resilient performance not only secured their place in the Eliminator but also underscored Bangalore’s ability to bounce back from adversity and deliver under pressure, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown in the knockout stage of the competition.

Mumbai showcased their characteristic resilience in the run chase, led by a solid start from Shabnim Ismail and Hayley Matthews, despite Bangalore setting a modest target. However, lapses in Mumbai’s fielding, including two crucial dropped catches involving Natalie Sciver-Brunt, allowed Bangalore to gain momentum. While Sciver-Brunt managed to redeem herself with a wicket, the missed opportunity to dismiss Richa Ghosh proved costly for Mumbai.

RCB-W vs MI-W Probable Winners:

We expect this to be a closely contested game, with the two teams that cruised with straightforward victories on Monday and Tuesday facing much tougher challenges in this one. Whoever wins the toss will have an advantage, but we don’t believe it will be the deciding factor on Thursday. RCB Women have players in good form throughout their lineup, and we believe they will win and make it three wins out of three. Considering the team combination, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women is expected to win this match.
