Mohsin Naqvi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, has been voted in as the new president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for a two-year period. He takes over from Shammi Silva, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) head. The move was endorsed during a virtual ACC members' meeting. Naqvi, who has been at the helm of the PCB since early 2024, has been a central figure in constructing Pakistan cricket. Under his leadership, Pakistan upgraded three of its top-class stadiums and successfully hosted the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy on a hybrid model. Naqvi offered his thanks in taking office, saying Asia is the epicentre of world cricket and that he is dedicated to working with every ACC member in increasing the popularity and stature of the game.

He did also show gratitude to his predecessor and stated how much it meant to have an open mind as a means to advance Asian cricket to its utmost potential. Under his leadership, ACC seeks to fortify its programs for youth development, provide further opportunities for rising players, and promote increased activity throughout the continent.

Challenges and Future Goals

One of the major challenges ahead for Naqvi is the Asia Cup, scheduled for September. Originally to be hosted by India, the tournament will now be held in a neutral location because of continuing political tensions between India and Pakistan. Hosting a smooth and successful event will be one of the biggest tests of his leadership.Besides his cricket administrative experience, Naqvi also boasts a government background as he has been Pakistan's Minister of Interior and Punjab province caretaker Chief Minister. His experience in dealing with large operations and decision-making would be important in his current position.

As Naqvi takes over, he envisions an Asian cricket that continues to climb to newer heights of international stature. With expansion, harmony, and innovation driving the process, he will lead the ACC to even higher peaks and take Asian cricket to even greater heights.

The anticipation is high as cricket fans eagerly await the announcement of Pakistan’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. However, due to a string of injuries plaguing the team, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to delay the squad announcement until the ICC deadline of May 25.

Special Award for the Pakistan Cricket Team

Amidst the uncertainty surrounding the squad announcement, the Pakistan cricket team has received a significant boost of motivation. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has made a bold promise to the squad, offering a substantial reward of $100,000 (PKR 2.77 crore) to each member if they emerge victorious in the T20 World Cup 2024.

PCB Chairman’s Interaction with the Team

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently engaged with the Pakistan team during their national camp at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Naqvi’s presence and words of encouragement boosted morale and instilled confidence in the players ahead of the T20 World Cup.

During his interaction with the team, Naqvi emphasized the importance of playing with freedom and confidence, urging the players to focus on teamwork and collective effort. His message resonated with the players, reminding them of the nation’s expectations and the significance of proudly representing Pakistan.

“Don’t care about anyone. Only play for Pakistan. Demonstrate teamwork on the field; God willing, victory will be yours. The country has a lot of expectations from you. You have to fulfill them,” Naqvi told the players.

Injuries to key players have challenged the selection committee, necessitating caution and deliberation in finalizing the squad. The PCB aims to ensure that the selected players are fully fit and ready to represent Pakistan globally.
