Group D Overview

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is shaping to be an exciting event, and Group D promises to be the centre of intense competition. Each team brings unique strengths and strategies, setting the stage for thrilling encounters.

Tabraiz Shamsi

Tabraiz Shamsi, the left-arm spinner, is South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in this cycle. Shamsi will be pivotal in South Africa’s bowling attack with nearly 50 career wickets in the Caribbean and extensive experience in T20 internationals and the Caribbean Premier League.

Matheesha Pathirana

Matheesha Pathirana, the right-arm fast bowler, is reminiscent of Sri Lankan great Lasith Malinga. With speeds touching 93 mph and an impressive performance in the Indian Premier League, Pathirana could be the bowler to watch in the tournament.

Key Players

Towhid Hridoy

Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib Al Hasan remains a pivotal player for Bangladesh. The left-arm spinner is closing in on 50 wickets in this World Cup cycle, maintaining an economy rate of just over six an over. Key Players

5. Netherlands’s Squad Analysis

Key Players

Logan van Beek

Logan van Beek has become a leading bowler for the Netherlands in T20s. With the most wickets of any Dutch bowler in this World Cup cycle, van Beek’s ability to bowl at a good pace and excel at death makes him a crucial player for the Netherlands.

Group D Prediction: Top Two Teams

Each team in Group D has its unique strengths. South Africa’s power-packed lineup, Sri Lanka’s balanced squad, Bangladesh’s mix of experience and youth, the Netherlands’ history of surprises, and Nepal’s youthful energy all contribute to a highly competitive group.

South Africa and Sri Lanka are strong contenders to advance from Group D. South Africa and Sri Lanka: The sheer star power makes South Africa a favourite for the top spot. Sri Lanka is likely to edge past Bangladesh for second place, given its better head-to-head record in the recent encounters. Bangladesh, with its blend of youth and experience, could also make a significant impact if it plays to its potential. The Netherlands and Nepal, though less favoured, have the potential to cause upsets.

The Netherlands cricket team recently announced its squad for the highly anticipated ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Scott Edwards confirmed as the captain of the Dutch side, entrusted with the responsibility of leading the team in their quest for success.

Notable Absences: Roelof van der Merwe and Colin Ackermann

The absence of seasoned campaigners Roelof van der Merwe and Colin Ackermann raised eyebrows among fans and experts. Both players had been stalwarts in the Dutch setup, contributing significantly to the team’s success in previous tournaments. However, selectors opted for a fresh approach, injecting youth and vitality into the squad.

Introduction of New Faces: Tim Pringle and Michael Levitt

In a bold move, selectors introduced two relatively inexperienced players, left-arm spinner Tim Pringle and hard-hitting opener Michael Levitt, into the squad. While their selection may have surprised some, Pringle and Levitt showcased immense potential and impressed with their performances in domestic and international cricket.

Coach’s Confidence: Ryan Cook’s Insights

Head coach Ryan Cook expressed confidence in the selected squad, emphasizing its balance and adaptability to different playing conditions. He lauded the players’ commitment and performance in recent training sessions. He highlighted the depth and quality of Dutch cricket—a testament to the country’s growth and development.

“We have selected a well-balanced team, and we are confident that it will be able to perform in the conditions against the opposition we face in the US and West Indies,” head coach Ryan Cook said.

“All players have been training well and involved in the recent ProSeries, with some exciting performances showing the growing depth and quality of Netherlands cricket. We have performed admirably in the last two World Cups we have participated in and will be determined to rise to the challenges we face to reach the next round of the tournament.”

The Group Stage Challenge: Opponents and Venues

In the group stages of the T20 World Cup, the Netherlands will face formidable opponents, including South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Matches will be held at various venues across the United States and the West Indies, offering diverse conditions and challenges for the competing teams.

Update News:

Fred Klaassen and Daniel Doram have been ruled out of the T20 World Cup, and Netherlands have added Kyle Klein, who was the lone travelling reserve, along with Saqib Zulfiqar to the squad as their replacements. Kyle’s brother, Ryan Klein, has now been designated as the first reserve.

<![CDATA[PCB Requests Postponement of Pakistan's T20I Tour to Netherlands]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/pcb-requests-postponement-of-pakistans-t20i-tour-to-netherlands/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/pcb-requests-postponement-of-pakistans-t20i-tour-to-netherlands/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 15:21:45 GMT

The anticipated Pakistan tour of the Netherlands in the upcoming year has been temporarily postponed due to scheduling challenges, according to reports from Cricbuzz. Originally slated for May, the tour has been put on hold as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) requested the delay, citing a congested national team calendar.

In response to the PCB’s request, the Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (KNCB) is collaborating with the PCB to identify a suitable timeframe for rescheduling the series. Initially planned to follow the CWC Super League series in Rotterdam in May 2022, the tour was strategically positioned just ahead of Pakistan’s scheduled visits to Ireland and England. However, with a home series against New Zealand in April and other engagements, the limited available window led to the postponement of the Netherlands tour.

Netherlands Tour Off: Pakistan’s Planned Visit to the Netherlands Called Off

The scheduled tour of the Netherlands by the Pakistan cricket team has been called off, leaving disappointment in its wake. Roland Lefebvre, KNCB High Performance Manager, expressed understanding of the situation, stating optimism for finding a new window to reschedule the series, whether at home or away, in an interview with Cricbuzz.

Post their participation in the ICC World Cup 2023, both teams are reflecting on their performances. Pakistan faced setbacks, failing to reach the semi-finals with five losses in nine league games, concluding fifth on the table. The Dutch team finished ninth, securing two wins and facing seven losses.

In their World Cup encounter, Pakistan commenced their campaign against the Netherlands in Hyderabad. They set a formidable total of 286 while batting first and subsequently bowled out the Dutch for 205 in 41 overs. The Netherlands managed notable victories over Bangladesh and South Africa in the tournament, with their win against the Proteas standing out as one of the surprises.

Looking ahead, Pakistan’s cricket journey will take them to Australia for a three-match Test series scheduled from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024. The Test matches are set to be held in Perth (Dec 14-18), MCG (Dec 26-30), and SCG (Jan 3-7).

IND vs NED Match Preview

The group stage of the 2023 Cricket World Cup concludes on Sunday with India taking on the Netherlands in Bengaluru. India are already guaranteed to finish first in their group and enter this game with a perfect record after winning eight of their eight games. Although it will be tempting to rest players, we expect India to press on and look to continue building momentum, with the possibility of winning every game remaining. When they qualified earlier this year, the Netherlands kept the West Indies and Zimbabwe out of this tournament, and they have justified their place in the competition with victories over South Africa and Bangladesh.

NED vs ENG Match Preview

On Wednesday, England will face the Netherlands in Match 40 of the 2023 Cricket World Cup at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. England has had a nightmare defense of their 2019 Cricket World Cup title, winning only one of their seven matches. England’s fans were encouraged by a strong bowling performance and an improved batting performance against Australia. However, there is a significant lack of confidence in England’s batting lineup, making this match against the Netherlands far from a foregone conclusion. With victories over South Africa and Bangladesh already in the tournament, the Netherlands will enter this match against England confident that they can win their third World Cup in 2023. They will have a great chance if they can produce with the bat.

<![CDATA[Champions Trophy Qualification: Battle for Two Remaining Spots Heats Up Among Four Teams]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/champions-trophy-qualification-battle-for-two-remaining-spots-heats-up-among-four-teams/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/champions-trophy-qualification-battle-for-two-remaining-spots-heats-up-among-four-teams/ Tue, 07 Nov 2023 09:33:20 GMT

With only a week left in the ICC World Cup 2023’s group stage, two teams have secured their places in the semi-finals: India and South Africa. Australia stands on the cusp of qualification with ten points, needing a win in one of their remaining matches against Afghanistan on November 7 or Bangladesh on November 11 to confirm a top-four spot. Meanwhile, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are in contention for the remaining two semi-final berths.

The teams officially out of the tournament are Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and the reigning 2019 champions, England. However, these matches are not meaningless, as they influence the 2025 Champions Trophy qualification. The top seven teams, along with host Pakistan, will participate in the event.

Following Sri Lanka’s loss to Bangladesh in Match 38, five teams have already secured their spots: India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Afghanistan, according to the standings on November 6. Pakistan, ranked fifth, has already gained automatic qualification.

For the bottom four teams, here are the scenarios to secure the remaining two Champions Trophy spots:

England (Bottom of the table with 2 Points): England must win both their remaining matches against the Netherlands and Pakistan to reach six points. If both Bangladesh (vs. Australia) and Sri Lanka (vs. New Zealand) win their matches, and the Netherlands loses, the qualification will be determined by Net Run Rate (NRR) among England, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. England would need a victory by a margin of 64+ runs (assuming they score 300) against the Netherlands to surpass Bangladesh’s NRR of -1.142.

Netherlands (Ninth on the table with 4 Points): The Netherlands can advance by winning both their remaining matches. Even a win against England and a washout against India or vice versa will earn them the seventh spot with seven points. However, if they lose one game, they will need England to lose to Pakistan while also hoping for losses or washouts for Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in their last matches.

Sri Lanka (Eighth on the table with 4 Points): Sri Lanka needs to win against New Zealand to reach six points. To qualify based on points, they require Bangladesh to lose their last match and the Netherlands to lose both. If Bangladesh wins, the Netherlands should lose both, and England should lose to Pakistan. In this scenario, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be the two teams with six points, ensuring their qualification.

Bangladesh (Seventh on the table with 4 Points): Bangladesh requires a win to reach six points. To qualify on points, they would need Sri Lanka to lose their last match and the Netherlands to lose both. Even if England wins both their matches, both Bangladesh and England will advance with six points. If Sri Lanka wins against New Zealand, the Netherlands must lose both, and England must lose to Pakistan. If Bangladesh loses to Australia, they need to ensure it’s not by a significant margin.

NED vs AFG Match Preview

The Netherlands will face Afghanistan in a must-win match at Lucknow’s Ekanna Cricket Stadium. This is their second game at the venue. The Dutch scored 262 runs batting first against Sri Lanka in their previous visit here. Given that the Netherlands were 6 down for 91 runs, it was an outstanding effort. The batting has been inconsistent, and skipper Scott Edwards will be concerned going into this game. Afghanistan, on the other hand, has improved their batting performances as they progress. After losing by 149 runs to New Zealand, Afghanistan chased down 283 against Pakistan before winning by 7 wickets against Sri Lanka, who set a target of 242 runs.

NED vs BAN Match Preview

Netherlands and Bangladesh, two of the bottom three sides in the 2023 Cricket World Cup, lock horns in Match 28 on Saturday at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. With only England in between the teams in the table, it has been a poor campaign for both teams who have picked up one victory in the tournament. After beating South Africa earlier in the tournament, the Netherlands not only have a new group of fans following their every move but expectations have also raised in the Ireland camp. Bangladesh have far more experience than the Netherlands players at the highest level and in ODI and T20I World Cups. Although both teams have won only one match so far, we are expecting the Tigers to have the upperhand and to record their second win.

Top Picks – Netherlands

 • Scott Edwards – The keeper-batter and skipper has generally come to the crease at number seven but he has far more talent than most batting at that number so could move up in this game.
 • Aryan Dutt – For the first time in the tournament we saw a batter dominate the tall off-spinner with David Warner attacking him through backward point. However, he still got the big wicket of Steve Smith.

Top Picks – Bangladesh

 • Litton Das – The 29 year old right handed opener has been Bangladesh’s most consistent batter in the top order during the tournament. He has contributed two half-centuries with 76 against England and 66 versus India.
 • Shakib Al Hasan – The captain showed no ill effects from his injury in the defeat in Match 23 as he dismissed Aiden Markram in the 31st over. He should be back to full fitness and be more dangerous in this game.

NED vs BAN Probable Winners

Although neither team has a chance of finishing in the top four of the tournament right now, we expect this game to be played with a high level of competitiveness. Neither team wants to finish at the bottom of the table, and this is a very winnable match for both. In the competition, the Netherlands have not seen enough runs from their top order, and this could be a problem again in this game. We believe the Tigers have more depth in both the batting and bowling departments, and we expect Netherlands to win. Considering the team combination, Netherlands is expected to win this match.

AUS vs NED Match Preview

On Wednesday, Australia and the Netherlands face off in Match 24 of the 2023 Cricket World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. After losing their first two matches, Australia has won their last two matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Australia has done a good job of boosting team confidence with wins in their last two matches, but we don’t expect them to take the challenge of the Netherlands lightly. Australia has a lot more to offer, and we expect them to win again in this match. The Netherlands have clearly grown in confidence since their win over South Africa, and despite some struggles, they had Sri Lanka on the back foot for much of Match 19. The Netherlands will undoubtedly compete against Australia, even if they do not win.

David Warner, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, Pat Cummins (c) (wk), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa

Netherlands Probable Playing XIs

Vikramjit Singh, Max O’Dowd, Colin Ackermann, Bas de Leede, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Teja Nidamanuru, Scott Edwards (c) (wk), Logan van Beek, Roelof van der Merwe, Aryan Dutt, Paul van Meekeren

Topmost Picks for AUS vs NED Dream11 Prediction:

Top Picks – Australia

 • David Warner – The runs keep on flowing for the top order batter who hit 14 fours and nine sixes in the last game. He will look to attack the Netherlands’ bowlers from the opening delivery.
 • Mitchell Starc – Mitchell Starc will lead the pace attack in this match and on this track we are backing him to pick some wickets. Starc has taken 6 wickets in 4 matches so far with an economy of 5.48. Mitchell Starc ripped apart NED’s top-order in the warm-up game and picked a hat-trick.

Top Picks – Netherlands

 • Colin Ackermann – The 32 year old batting all-rounder has a top score of 69 in the tournament which came against New Zealand and he will be relishing testing himself against the strong Australian bowling attack.
 • Paul van Meekeren – The right-arm pace bowler has impressed with his ability to dismiss top order batters across this campaign. He comes into this match after taking the wicket of Pathum Nissanka in Lucknow last time out.

Suggested Playing XI N0.1 for AUS vs NED Dream11 Team:

Scott Edwards, Josh Inglis, Max O’Dowd, David Warner, Bas de Leede(C), Mitchell Marsh, Colin Ackermann, Mitchell Starc(VC), Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa, Logan van Beek

Suggested Playing XI N0.2 for AUS vs NED Dream11 Team:

Scott Edwards, Josh Inglis, Vikramjit Singh, David Warner(C), Bas de Leede, Mitchell Marsh(VC), Colin Ackermann, Mitchell Starc, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Adam Zampa, Logan van Beek

Captain and Vice-Captain Options:

Captain – Bas de Leede, David Warner

Vice-captain – Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh

Wicketkeeper – Scott Edwards

AUS vs NED Probable Winners

If the Netherlands had pulled off another surprise against Sri Lanka, there would be a stronger case for betting on the Netherlands to win. However, they were defeated in Lucknow, while Australia won their second consecutive match on Sunday. It is not a good time to play Australia because David Warner will be fired up and most teams will struggle against their well-balanced bowling attack. They will also benefit from the return of Travis Head to the lineup. Considering the team combination, Australia is expected to win this match.
