During the second Semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where New Zealand and South Africa are facing each other at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson created a new history for his nation with his bat.

In the second Semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner chose to bat first as the Blackcaps captain felt the lesser dew impact in the evening due to the breeze in the afternoon.

New Zealand openers Will Young and Rachin Ravindra had a 48-run partnership for the first wicket, before Young was dismissed for 21 runs. Then Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson set up a huge partnership for the second wicket that guided the Kiwis to a big total for this Semi-final.

Kane Williamson became the first New Zealander to record 500 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy

Soon after coming to bat in the second Semi-final, Kane Williamson surpassed the legendary New Zealand cricketer Stephen Fleming (441 runs) and became the leading run-scorer for New Zealand in ICC Champions Trophy history. Later, close to his 70-run mark, Williamson reached the 500-run mark in this competition as he became the first New Zealander and 14th overall batter to record 500 or more runs in ICC Champions Trophy history.

Kane Williamson became the first New Zealand batter to record 19000 runs in international cricket

During the 100+ second wicket partnership, Williamson reached a new milestone in international cricket and became the first New Zealander to achieve this. The right-handed batter became the first New Zealander and 16th international cricketer to record 19000 international runs. He completed it in 440 international innings and became the fourth fastest batter to reach the 19000 international runs milestone.

The second wicket partnership added 164 runs

Williamson and Ravindra had an outstanding 164-run partnership for the second wicket. While Ravindra recorded his fifth ODI century, Williamson recorded his 14th fifty-plus score in the history of the ICC ODI tournament. With the help of 13 fours and one six, Ravindra impressed everyone with his 108 off 101 balls knock.

NZ vs SA Match Preview

This looks to be a thrilling second game for the Pakistan Tri-Nation Series, with South Africa playing their first game of the competition against the winners of match one, New Zealand. The first game of the series demonstrated that this pitch in Lahore could produce plenty of runs, with Kane Williamson (58), Daryl Mitchell (81), Glenn Phillips (106*), and Fakhar Zaman (84) leading the way with the bat. With the SA20 tournament wrapping up on Saturday, South Africa, which has the largest squad of the three, is unlikely to have their strongest XI available.

Key Players

Keshav Maharaj

With Pakistan spinning more, Keshav Maharaj will have a role to play. He is often an underrated part of the side and will now be in the spotlight especially with South Africa missing some first choice players.

Matt Henry

With Southee and Boult out of the picture and through with their careers Matt Henry will have a chance to grab the spotlights. He knows how to make the new-ball talk better than anyone and is growing with the older one too.

<![CDATA[NZ vs SA Match Prediction- Who Will Win Today’s World Cup Match Between New Zealand and South Africa World Cup, 32nd Match]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/match-predictions/nz-vs-sa-match-prediction-who-will-win-todays-world-cup-match-between-new-zealand-and-south-africa-world-cup-32nd-match/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/match-predictions/nz-vs-sa-match-prediction-who-will-win-todays-world-cup-match-between-new-zealand-and-south-africa-world-cup-32nd-match/ Tue, 31 Oct 2023 04:59:49 GMT

Two Teams well placed in the table take each other on. Additionally, both teams have quiet a bit of history in the World Cup. History though sees South Africa on the wrong side with their players in tears at the end of the 2015 encounter. In 2019 the two sides came together in an encounter with middling scores going into the final over. 2011, the last time they faced off in the subcontinent was another thriller with South Africa choking in ways only they can to concede a Semi-Final spot.

New Zealand are finding themselves in slight trouble with two losses in two games and will be eager to get back. To boost them, there is the prospect of Kane Williamson coming back after recovering from yet another injury. They just went through one of the best games in World Cup history, almost chasing 380 odd to only fall short by five runs and will need to pull themselves up from that.

South Africa came in after a thriller themselves. They buried some ghosts of the past holding their nerve well and will be very confident coming into the next game. They still have a lot to bury though as they take on a side which has haunted and given them a lot of emotional and tough moments in the past.

David Miller has been through quiet a few heartbreaks against New Zealand in the last decade and almost prevented them as well. He will be very eager to get one result going his way this time with New Zealand struggling for form.

Rachin Ravindra

Rachin Ravindra has been the find of the tournament so far. He is looking very calm and mature and is clear with his shot-making. He has made a huge impact and is certainly a player to keep an eye on.

NZ vs SA Match Tips

New Zealand have a good record against South Africa in World Cups in recent times. South Africa’s form though could trump New Zealand.
