PAK vs ENG Match Preview

The series decider between host Pakistan and England will begin on Thursday (October 24th) in Rawalpindi. With the series tied at 1-1, host Pakistan will look to field their strongest playing XI for this game. Captain Shan Masood will undoubtedly make some changes for the series decider. On the other hand, England, led by Ben Stokes, will need to make amends for their mistakes in the previous game and perform better in this series finale. Two years ago, England defeated Pakistan by 74 runs in a Test match at Rawalpindi.

The fans are on at Rawalpindi as well. After a win on one of the toughest tracks to bat on in Pakistan off late, Pakistan has found its strategy to find ways to get wins at home. They are banking on spin with Rawalpindi, one of the flattest Test pitches in recent times being converted into a really dry track to keep the bowlers in the game. England won't mind though. They have already named their eleven with three spinners and Joe Root and they look prepared to take on the challenge despite losing their previous Test.

PAK vs ENG Key Players

Noman Ali

At 38, Test opportunities have been sporadic for Noman Ali. With opportunities slipping away, Noman Ali's career looked done until the previous Test where he pickedup eight wickets in the second innings to ensure that he is still a force to watch out for. He has a lot of domestic experience and with little time on his side he will be hoping to make use of any opportunity he gets in Test Cricket.

Ben Duckett

Ben Duckett has excelled massively under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes. When he started his career he was a player completely at loss against spin. In the second Test though he bossed his way through the innings as the ball turned and he looked in complete control. He is a really dangerous player at the moment and is showing his versatility with a lot of confidence.

PAK vs ENG Match Tips

The ball will spin and England will be ready for it despite Pakistan looking good.

Pakistan begin a complete refresh with Babar Azam, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi dropped for the next two Tests. Babar Azam in particular has been poor in form and has been given the break while Pakistan as a team has been awful in recent times. They batted well in the first innings but a toiling effort with the ball on a flat pitch and a poor performance with the bat later costed them big time as they choked to defeat.

PAK vs ENG Key Players

Shan Masood

Pakistan's team form has been pretty bad and their captain has done little to help. His runs are drying up with very little to look back on and that will be a concern with Pakistan's history of moving captains around not the greatest.

Shoaib Bashir

Jack Leach is around but Shoaib Bashir will believe he is the spinner to in charge after his time in India earlier this year. He knows how to use subcontinent conditions well and is likely to bowl a bulk of the overs.

PAK vs ENG Match Tips

England are favorites despite being away from home. Pakistan has been struggling in the longest format and a win will boost them but that also looks rather unlikely at the moment.

Pakistan cricketer Aamer Jamal took a stunner to provide a perfect start for the hosts Pakistan during England’s first innings of the Test series opener.

Pakistan are busy to host the three-match Test series against England, which is a part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship. Multan is hosting the Test series opener from Monday (October 7).

After choosing the bat first, Pakistan batters dominated in the first innings. Thanks to three centuries, opener Abdullah Shafique (102), captain Shan Masood (151), and the no. 8 batter Salman Agha (104*), the hosts scored 556 runs before losing their last wicket.

Watch: Richa Ghosh takes stunning catch to dismiss Pakistan captain

Incredible Aamer Jamal took a one-handed catch

Due to an on-field injury, opener Ben Duckett didn’t come to bat on the second day. Captain Ollie Pope took the opening batting role along with the opener Zak Crawley. However, it didn’t work well as Pope was dismissed very early, thanks to a blinder catch by Aamer Jamal.

Naseem Shah started his spell during the second over of England’s first innings. On his second ball of the match, Shah delivered a shorter ball, which Pope attacked. However, at the mid-off, the 28-year-old all-rounder Aamer Jamal took a brilliant catch by timely stretching his right hand to successfully grab the ball.

England trailing by 460 runs

It was a perfect start for Pakistan as Pope scored a duck and England were battling at 4/1. However, that dismissal was the only joyful moment for the hosts in England’s innings of the day. Opener Crawley and the former captain Joe Root successfully handled the early situation very well and ended the day at 96/1 in 20 overs.

The opener Crawley scored run-a-ball 64 not out with 11 fours. Meanwhile, Root was unbeaten at 32 runs off 54 balls with the help of two fours.

At the stump of the second day, England are trailing by 460 runs.

England whitewashed Pakistan with ease last time they were in Pakistan in what was a statement that Bazball works overseas. They are in pretty good form now too but will be without Ben Stokes for one more Test as he continues to recover from injury. England will be fancying themselves here though with Pakistan looking really dreadful in Test Cricket. They have lost their last five Tests including two at home to Bangladesh and are looking clueless in all aspects.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has officially announced the 17-member strong England squad for the three-match Test series against the hosts Pakistan. Test captain Ben Stokes returns along with the opener Zak Crawley. The ECB has also named two uncapped players for this upcoming tour.

Pakistan will host the three-match Test series against England from October 7. Although Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has recently confirmed that Multan and Rawalpindi will host the three Tests of this forthcoming series, the ECB has also clarified that the venues are yet to be confirmed. This Test series will be a part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship.

England Test captain Ben Stokes and opener Zak Crawley return from injuries

The 33-year-old English Test captain Ben Stokes has recovered from his hamstring injury and is ready to return to the Test squad. After the last Test against West Indies in Birmingham, Stokes was busy in The Hundred, where he sustained a hamstring injury as he was carried off.

Meanwhile, the opener Zak Crawley was injured during the series-finale Birmingham Test against West Indies last July. He had a fracture on the right little finger, but he has made significant progress in recovery to earn the call-up in the national team.

Both Stokes and Crawley missed the recently concluded three-match home Test series against Sri Lanka.

Jordan Cox and Brydon Carse are the uncapped names

The 23-year-old wicketkeeper Jordan Cox and the 29-year-old fast-bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse are the uncapped among the 17-member Test squad for the upcoming Pakistan tour.

Apart from the off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, left-arm spinner Jack Leach and leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed have also been selected in this Test squad.

Talking about the pace-bowling line-up, Stokes has the options of Chris Woakes, Olly Stone, recently Test debutant Josh Hull, Matthew Potts, and Gus Atkinson.

It will be England’s first Test series in Asia since their 4-1 Test series defeat against the hosts India last March.

In late 2022, England travelled to Pakistan for the first time in 17 years. In that tour, England won the three-match Test series by 3-0.

Meanwhile, Pakistan last won a home Test in February 2021 against South Africa. Since then, they have drawn four and lost six out of their last ten home Tests.

Following Liam Livingstone‘s departure from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Rajasthan Royals bid farewell to another English cricketer as explosive batsman Jos Buttler exits the tournament to fulfil his national commitments.

Buttler’s Farewell: Rajasthan Royals Lose a Key Player

In a poignant video shared by the Rajasthan Royals’ official social media handle, Jos Buttler is seen bidding farewell to his teammates before departing from the Royals’ camp. His departure leaves a void in the team, depriving Rajasthan of a critical player known for his explosive batting prowess.

Liam Livingstone’s Departure: English Exodus from IPL Continues

The exit of Jos Buttler marks the continuation of a trend wherein English players have been leaving the IPL midway to prepare for international duties. Liam Livingstone’s departure preceded Buttler’s exit, adding to the list of English stars relinquishing their IPL campaigns for national duty.

Liam Livingstone’s premature departure from the IPL was driven by concerns over his fitness, particularly his troublesome knee. Having suffered from a series of muscle injuries recently, Livingstone prioritized his recovery for the T20 World Cup to ensure his availability for England’s campaign.

ECB’s Call: National Duty Beckons for England Players

The decision to leave the IPL stems from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) call for World Cup-bound players to return to the national setup ahead of the crucial series against Pakistan. With the T20Is against Pakistan serving as a dress rehearsal for the upcoming T20 World Cup, key players like Buttler become imperative for England.

Following Livingstone and Buttler’s exit, the rest of England’s World Cup squad members who participated in the IPL are expected to return home. Players like Will Jacks, Reece Topley, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, and Phil Salt will join their teammates in England, where they will regroup ahead of the series against Pakistan. The squad is scheduled to reconvene in Leeds ahead of England’s first T20I against Pakistan at Headingley on May 22.

Pakistan had a rollercoaster of a ride in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 subsequent to losing two progressive matches in the Super 12 phase to come to the finals of the occasion. The Babar Azam-led side were ultimately crushed because of England in the summit showdown which delegated England as victors of the world cup.

Babar Azam ought to step down as captain, according to a number of cricket enthusiasts. In addition, Pakistan great Shahid Afridi is of the opinion that Babar should focus on batting rather than taking charge of the team in T20 matches and should lead the team in ODIs and Tests.

“Babar was not happy with the management at Karachi Kings as it is. I feel he should take a tough call and quit captaincy in T20 cricket. He should focus on his batting and lead the team in Tests and one-dayers. I respect Babar a lot and that’s why I don’t want him to take the pressure of captaincy in T20 cricket. I want him to focus on his captaincy in longer formats. You do have players like Shadab, Rizwan, and even Shan Masood who can lead the team in the T20 format,”

Afridi said in an interview with Samaa TV.

Babar Azam faced lot of heat during the marquee event

The Pakistan captain’s lacklustre performance throughout the T20 World Cup was one of the highlights. Babar simply did not appear to be in pristine touch, with the exception of the sensational 53-run innings against New Zealand.

In addition, Babar scored a single digit in each of his first four Super 12 matches and a 32 in his final match against England. With the willow, which has been affected by the pressures of being a captain, his demise has been observed by fans and cricketers.
