Virat Kohli, who made multiple world-class records, unfortunately found himself in several runout events, including last night's Phil Salt wicket, when a massive misjudgment caused the Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter's wicket and probably the match also.

Phil Salt was blazing with all his weapons against Delhi Capitals at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Salt lost his wicket when he was 37, playing only 17 balls. He trashed a delivery hard in 3.5 overs and started to run for a single. Virat Kohli, at the non-striker's end, also ran halfway to the crease for a run, but suddenly he stopped and returned. Watching Virat go back, Salt also changed direction to the striker's end, but he slipped and couldn't cross the safe line—run out.

There are multiple examples of runouts where Virat was the non-striking batter, whether it was a club match or a team India match; the scenario remains unchanged. According to stats, Virat Kohli has been involved in 32 runs out in IPL cricket. Virat Kohli himself was run out 8 times, and his partners were run out on 24 occasions.

<![CDATA[Watch: Phil Salt's run out destroys RCB's dominant start against DC]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/phil-salt-run-out-destroys-rcb-dominant-start-against-dc/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/phil-salt-run-out-destroys-rcb-dominant-start-against-dc/ Thu, 10 Apr 2025 16:02:58 GMT

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had a fiery start against Delhi Capitals in the 24th match of the IPL 2025, where the opener Phil Salt was bashing the opponent bowlers. But a terrible mix-up forced the dangerous Salt to lose his valuable wicket through a run-out.

After Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel chose to field first in Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bengaluru had a stormy start by recording the fastest 50 runs for a team in the IPL 2025 after scoring 53/0 in three overs. During the third over of the innings, RCB openers Phil Salt and Virat Kohli added 30 runs as Mitchell Starc had one of his worst T20 experiences by conceding three consecutive fours (including one in a no-ball), two sixes (including one in a Free Hit), and ending with a four leg-bye runs.

Salt set the early stage for RCB to practically dream of a big total of 200 runs in the match. However, the fourth over brought a horrible experience for the hosts, which massively hurt them in the first innings.

Terrible mix-up before Phil Salt's unfortunate run out

Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel was bowling in that fourth over of the innings, while Salt and Kohli had a terrible mix-up on the fifth ball of that over, and it immediately cost Salt's wicket, as he was comfortably run out. The running partners were clueless in the middle of the pitch, and the English cricketer turned back to make his desperate attempt to save his wicket, but it was too late for him. Salt was run out for 37 off 17 balls, where he hit four fours and three sixes.

RCB scored 163/7

While RCB lost their first wicket for 61 runs, they were struggling at 125/7. Finally, Tim David made a brilliant attempt in the final overs, as his 37 not out in 20 balls (two fours and four sixes) guided RCB to a challenging first innings total of 163/7 in 20 overs.

In a remarkable moment during Match 24 of IPL 2025 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Bengaluru, RCB opener Phil Salt unleashed an aggressive assault on Mitchell Starc that left fans stunned. In the third over of the innings, Starc, one of DC’s premier left-arm pacers, endured a forgettable spell, conceding 30 runs—one of the most expensive overs in IPL history.

The over began with Salt striking a massive six, followed by three consecutive boundaries. On the fourth delivery, Starc overstepped, resulting in a no-ball, and Salt punished the Free Hit with another towering six. By this point, the crowd was roaring as Salt displayed his explosive hitting ability. The last two deliveries didn’t add to Starc’s tally of runs conceded, but they still hurt the team. One leg-bye allowed Salt to rotate strike, and Virat Kohli followed up with a four through leg-byes, completing a 30-run over.

Despite some of the runs not being credited directly to Starc, the damage had been done. Fans were quick to react on social media, with many calling it one of the most entertaining and unexpected overs of the tournament so far. It was a rare sight to see a bowler of Starc’s caliber put under such pressure.

Phil Salt was, unfortunately run out for 37 runs

RCB scored 53/0 in three overs as they recorded the fastest 50 runs in the IPL 2025. DC were in big relief in the next over, after Salt had a horrible run out after a terrible mix-up with his opening partner Kohli. Before his run out, the English opener scored 37 off 17 balls with four fours and three sixes.

Salt's dismissal hurt more RCB fans as it triggered a tough time for the hosts to experience a batting collapse. From 61/0, RCB suddenly went down to 117/6 before the 15th over.

It was the moment for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium last night. RCB pulled out their level best to defeat Mumbai Indians (MI) almost after a decade at their home ground. The match was full of exciting moments, from playing fearless shots to jaw-dropping fielding, a pure team game from the Rajat Patidar-led XI.

In the 20th over of MI's innings, Phil Salt and Tim David combined together to accomplish an infeasible catch near the boundary ropes. It was the very last over of the match; Deepak Chahar was on the strike, facing Krunal Pandya. The former IPL champion side then needed 19 off 5 balls for a historic win over Bengaluru.

Chahar had to go big, and he tried to swing his bat and sent the ball towards deep midwicket. The ball was high in the air; two RCB fielders, Phil Salt and Tim David, both were rushing towards the boundary line. The next thing that happened was forcing the Wankhede crowd to erupt in loud cheer.

In this way they completed the stunning catch

It was a running Salt who first grabbed the ball with his safe hands and then passed it towards his teammate David. David, under pressure, did not make any mistake to complete the catch. Chahar leave the field with a golden duck, and Krunal bagged a total of 4 wickets. Will Jacks, Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, and Deepak Chahar fall short against the Indian spinner.

Batting first, RCB put 221/5 on the scoreboard. Mumbai Indians, in reply, tried to make runs in a quick manner, which made RCB bowlers task much easier. Despite Tilak Varma's 56 and captain Hardik Pandya's 42, Mumbai Indians could not make it to the finish line—RCB won by 12 runs. At the end of IPL 2025 match 20, RCB remains in the third spot with 6 points after 4 games, whereas Mumbai Indians are in 8th place with 2 points in 5 games.

In a nail-biting contest at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 7, 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) took on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 20 of IPL 2025. RCB's explosive opener, Phil Salt, has been in excellent form for the team in the past few games. However, his stint at the crease was cut short, thanks to a masterclass from MI’s veteran pacer Trent Boult. The game, which was filled with expectation, had Salt step out to start the innings with his partner, looking to set the tone for RCB's run chase or first innings, depending on the toss.

The drama was played out in the very first over. Salt, who has a reputation for his ferocious stroke play, got off the mark in style by dispatching a boundary to Boult's opening delivery—a stylish cover drive that announced his arrival. The Wankhede crowd was full of life, anticipating fireworks from the Englishman. But Boult, with all his experience, had different ideas. On the very first ball after that, he produced a peach of a delivery that came back in, thudding into Salt's leg stump. Salt, who was out for a mere 4 runs off 2 balls, walked back to the pavilion, leaving RCB in disarray soon. This dismissal gave MI a vital edge and set the stage for a dogfight-like battle.

Trent Boult's sendoff of Phil Salt wasn't only a piece of glory for MI; it was proof of his sustained excellence in the IPL. This scalp was Boult's 31st in the opening over of an IPL game, establishing his record as a new-ball master. For RCB, Salt's departure early on mounted pressure on the middle order to steady the innings, and MI took advantage of the momentum. As the game went on, Boult's initial strike continued to be a turning point in this high-intensity encounter.

Former RCB bowler Mohammed Siraj, now playing for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, had a memorable return to the game in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the IPL 2025 season. In the fifth over when Phil Salt played a stunning shot. On the third ball, bowled at 143.6 kmph on middle and off, Salt got into position early and hammered a massive six, sending the ball 105 meters over Cow Corner and out of the stadium.

But Siraj didn’t stay quiet for long. On the very next delivery, he got his revenge by knocking Salt’s stumps over. It was a full delivery that started on middle and off and swung away. Salt tried to go big again but missed, and the ball crashed into the stumps.

Earlier, Siraj had already taken the 2nd wicket of RCB by dismissing Devdutt Padikkal for just 4 in his previous over. His fiery spell seemed to come with extra determination, possibly because RCB chose not to retain him or use the RTM card at the auction despite his years of loyalty.

In the eighth match of the IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings legend MS Dhoni showcased his popular lightning stumping act to stun Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener Phil Salt, whose wicket was crucial for the hosts CSK.

After CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad chose to field first, RCB got a good start, as the openers Phil Salt and Virat Kohli set up a 45-run partnership for the first wicket in 5 overs. While Salt was really aggressive with the bat, MS Dhoni's familiar lightning stumping act ended the English batter's innings for 32 off 16 balls, where Salt hit five fours and one six.

MS Dhoni gave no chance to Phil Salt in lightning stumping

Noor Ahmad delivered that fifth over of the innings, where his first over of the match ended with a key wicket. While the delivery was angling away outside off, Salt missed his cover drive attempt. Wicketkeeper MS Dhoni collected the ball and sharply hit the stumps. Although the initial look was no big danger for Salt, the replay showed Salt's foot was in the air for a few seconds, and those were enough for Dhoni to work cleanly to bring the important wicket for his team.

RCB won by 50 runs

RCB captain Rajat Patidar scored 51 off 32 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes. There was also a crucial cameo from Tim David with 22 not out in eight balls with one four and three sixes, as RCB scored 196/7 in 20 overs. In reply, CSK couldn't fight as the opener Rachin Ravindra (41), Ravindra Jadeja (25), and the no.9 batter MS Dhoni (30*) managed to reach the 20-run mark as CSK scored 146/8 (20 overs) and RCB won by 50 runs.
