The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which kicks off on June 1, is set to be an exhilarating event. This ninth edition of the tournament marks a historic debut in the USA, aiming to broaden the sport’s appeal in the world’s most advanced economy.

T20 World Cup 2024: Tournament Structure

The tournament will feature 20 teams, divided into four groups of five teams each. Every team will play one match against each of the other teams in their group. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage, where they will be split into two groups of four. The top two teams from these groups will then progress to the semi-finals, culminating in a thrilling final match to determine the world champion.

T20 WC 2024, Match 36, Pakistan vs Ireland

Pakistan 111 for 7 (Babar 32*, Barry McCarthy 3-15) beat Ireland 106 for 9 (Gareth Delany  31, Josh Little  22*, Imad Wasim 3-8) by 3 wickets.

Babar Azam’s unbeaten 32 saved Pakistan’s blushes as the side ended its disappointing T20 World Cup campaign with a 3-wicket win over Ireland in Florida on Sunday.

Pakistan end their campaign with a win. But they almost messed this up too. The middle-order collapse gave Ireland hope when Pakistan slipped from 52/2 to 62/6. Babar though was there and he dropped anchor to ensure there were no further alarms.

Despite the win, Pakistan won’t be happy with the way they have batted in the whole tournament. It was not easy pitches to bat on, but Pakistan were very disappointing with the bat and that’s why they have exited at the first hurdle itself.

In an exhilarating display of cricket, the Delhi Capitals (DC) surged to a convincing win against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in match 32 of the 2024 Indian Premier League. Held in Ahmedabad, this match was pivotal for both teams, especially Delhi, who had a rocky start to their season.

Strategic Mastery: Delhi’s Decision to Dominate Early

Opting to bowl first, Delhi’s captain, Rishabh Pant, made a calculated decision based on the pitch conditions and his team’s strengths. This choice paid off handsomely. The Delhi bowlers, led by Ishant Sharma and Mukesh Kumar, capitalized on the early advantage, setting the tone for a low-scoring game for GT.

Catastrophe for Gujarat Titans: A Record Low

The Gujarat Titans struggled from the outset. Losing quick wickets, including that of their captain Shubman Gill in just the second over, GT couldn’t find their footing. The pressure from Delhi’s bowlers was relentless, leading to a disastrous total of 89 all out. This score became GT’s lowest ever, marking a significant downturn for the team this season.

Rapid Chase: Delhi’s Aggressive Response

In response, the Delhi Capitals made quick work of the modest target. Australian newcomer Jake Fraser-McGurk shone brightly, striking a rapid half-century. His performance, coupled with contributions from other batsmen, ensured that the chase was over in just 8.5 overs. This not only gave Delhi a win but also boosted their net run rate, a crucial factor in the tournament’s later stages.

Bowling Brilliance: Key Performers

Mukesh Kumar emerged as the star with his 3-wicket haul for just 14 runs. His spell, supported by Ishant Sharma’s crucial early wickets, exemplified tactical bowling. The duo’s performance underlined the effectiveness of Delhi’s bowling strategy, which was perfectly aligned with the pitch conditions that favored slow and low bounce.

Record Lows and Highs

GT’s score of 89 is now etched as their lowest since joining the IPL in 2022. For a team that has shown considerable prowess in past seasons, this performance was a significant letdown and a record they’d prefer to forget.

In the 24th match of the IPL 2024 season, Gujarat Titans (GT) brought an end to Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) winning streak in a riveting encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday, April 10. Gujarat Titans chased down a target of 197 runs to win match by 3 wickets in a last ball thriller encounter.

Rashid and Rahul’s Spectacular Finish

The match witnessed an enthralling as Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia orchestrated a stunning turnaround, guiding GT to a nail-biting victory by 3 wickets on the final delivery. Khan’s blistering knock of 24 runs off 11 balls, complemented by Tewatia’s valiant 22 off 11 deliveries, sealed the fate of the match in GT’s favor.

Kuldeep Sen’s Impactful Bowling Display

GT’s chase commenced steadily with skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan laying a solid foundation with a partnership of 64 runs in 50 balls. However, Kuldeep Sen’s three-fer halted GT’s momentum, claiming crucial wickets in the middle overs. Sudharshan’s dismissal for 35 runs and quick successions of wickets further added to GT’s challenge.

Gill’s Heroic Effort and Subsequent Dismissal

Despite the setbacks, Shubman Gill showcased exemplary batting prowess, anchoring GT’s innings with a splendid knock of 72 runs off 44 balls. However, Kuldeep’s double breakthroughs in the 11th over, followed by Yuzvendra Chahal’s dismissal of Gill in the 16th over, shifted the momentum in RR’s favor momentarily.

Rashid and Rahul’s Resilience

With the match hanging in the balance, impact substitute Shahrukh Khan’s brief cameo injected momentum back into GT’s innings. However, it was Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia’s resilient partnership that ultimately steered GT to victory. Despite Tewatia’s unfortunate run-out, Rashid Khan’s nerve-wracking boundary secured a thrilling win for GT.

The Royals’ Dominance in the First Innings

Earlier in the match, RR posted a formidable total of 196 for 3, courtesy of a sensational 130-run third-wicket partnership between skipper Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag. Samson’s leadership and Parag’s explosive batting propelled RR to a commanding position, setting the stage for an electrifying showdown.

Parag’s Explosive Performance

Riyan Parag’s monstrous knock of 76 runs off 48 deliveries, including three boundaries and five maximums, was a highlight of RR’s innings. His aggressive approach and impeccable timing demoralized GT’s bowling attack, showcasing his prowess as a formidable batsman in the IPL. Skipper Samson was unbeaten on 68 off 38 deliveries and Hetmyer on the other end was unbeaten on 13 off 5 deliveries.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Dominance

Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad showcased their batting prowess with an explosive start from Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Both batsmen exhibited aggressive stroke play, leaving the Mumbai Indians bowlers clueless. Travis Head’s blistering innings of 62 and Abhishek Sharma’s explosive knock of 63, Klaasen’s blistering knock of 80*runs supported by a gritty 42* by Markram saw Hyderabad break RCB’s 11-year record to register the highest-ever IPL team total of 277/3.

Mumbai Indians’ Struggle

The Mumbai Indians bowlers were on the receiving end of an onslaught from the Sunrisers Hyderabad batters. former MI skipper Rohit Sharma (26) and his opening partner Ishan Kishan (34) started on the right note but lost their wickets within the powerplay. Despite early breakthroughs, the Mumbai Indians failed to contain the flow of runs as Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a formidable total of 277/3, breaking the previous IPL team total record.
