<![CDATA[BCCI’s tough call: IPL 2025 captains including Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel to be fined for violations]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/bcci-s-tough-call-ipl-2025-captains-including-rishabh-pant-and-axar-patel-to-be-fined-for-violations/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/bcci-s-tough-call-ipl-2025-captains-including-rishabh-pant-and-axar-patel-to-be-fined-for-violations/ Tue, 15 Apr 2025 15:58:14 GMT

As a part of a massive crackdown on over-rate offenses, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has penalized various Indian Premier League (IPL) captains in the 2025 season. These include some of the top names like Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Sanju Samson, reflecting the board's strict commitment to upholding the integrity and pace of the game. While slow over rates have long been a talking point in the IPL, the 2025 season has seen a renewed emphasis on disciplinary enforcement, with financial penalties replacing match suspensions in a new regulatory shift.

BCCI’s Updated Over-Rate Policy for IPL 2025

According to IPL Playing Conditions Clause 12.6, the teams have to bowl 14.11 overs per hour, thereby finishing their entire 20-over innings in 90 minutes, including two strategic time-outs. In case of failure, they are liable to penalties, regulated as follows:

 • First Offence: ₹12 lakh fine on the captain.
 • Second Offence: ₹24 lakh fine to the captain, and ₹6 lakh or 25% of match fee (lower of the two) to the rest of the playing XI.
 • Additional Offenses: Previously suspended by matches, but the BCCI has abolished suspensions in IPL 2025 and replaced them with fines.

The move shows BCCI's shift to providing smoothness of games without interfering with team line-ups.

List of Captains Fined in IPL 2025 So Far

1. Hardik Pandya – Mumbai Indians (Match 9)

Mumbai Indians' new skipper Hardik Pandya was fined ₹12 lakh when his side fell behind the over-rate in their match at Ahmedabad against the Gujarat Titans. The match also ended in a 36-run defeat for Mumbai, rubbing salt into the wound.

2. Riyan Parag – Rajasthan Royals (Match 11)

With Sanju Samson being sidelined by a finger injury, Riyan Parag was made stand-in captain of Rajasthan Royals. In Royals' contest against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati, the Royals were unable to maintain the needed over-rate, and it cost the young skipper a ₹12 lakh fine.

3. Rishabh Pant – Lucknow Super Giants (Match 16)

Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant, the current captain of Lucknow Super Giants, was penalized ₹12 lakh for a slow over-rate during their April 4 match against Mumbai Indians. While Pant himself scored only 2 runs, LSG had won the match by 12 runs, but the over-rate violation invoked disciplinary action.

4. Rajat Patidar – Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Match 21)

Rajat Patidar, leading RCB in the absence of regular skipper Faf du Plessis, was fined ₹12 lakh for a slow over-rate while leading RCB to a 12-run win over Mumbai Indians on April 7. The slow over-rate notwithstanding his vital 64-run contribution. That couldn't prevent him from being penalized.

5. Sanju Samson – Rajasthan Royals (Match 23)

Back to captaincy duties, Sanju Samson was fined a hefty ₹24 lakh for the Rajasthan Royals' second over-rate offense of the season in a 58-run loss to the Gujarat Titans. Other players in the XI were fined ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, according to the rules.

6. Axar Patel – Delhi Capitals (Match 29)

On April 13, Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel was penalized ₹12 lakh for a slow over-rate in their match against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Delhi lost the match by 12 runs, and the fine was an added aggravation.

The Growing Significance of the Over-Rate Penalty

The BCCI’s aggressive stance on this front is not without reason. In an era of high broadcast demands, tight match windows, and growing commercial interests, time management has become essential. Lengthy innings not only delay post-match shows and logistical operations but also affect viewership retention, especially during late-night finishes. Promoting the emphasis on over rates also reinforces fair play. A team intentionally slowing down the game at crucial moments, such as the death overs, can prejudice the batting team's momentum. Strict enforcement ensures that the level of competition is upheld.

Differing from the previous seasons, where repeat offenses led to captain match suspensions, the BCCI has incorporated a major overhaul in IPL 2025. By eliminating suspension and introducing harder fines, the board is working towards ensuring there is continuity at the team lead level while ensuring discipline is intact. This switch does appear to be a thoughtful attempt to reduce turnarounds, particularly given the size of disruption that captaincy changes can provide in the extremely pressure-laden environment of the IPL.

With only one-third of the IPL 2025 league stage completed, already, six captains have been fined, and there is cause for concern about emerging trends. The teams now have to be more vigilant not only about strategies and outcomes but the clock as well. Franchise support staff like bowling coaches and analysts may play a greater role in managing innings pace and making sure in-match strategies do not breach necessary timing standards.

As the tournament intensified, the message of the BCCI was perfectly clear discipline and efficiency need to go hand-in-hand with cricketing brilliance. The limelight is no more solely on the strike rates and bowling economy; it's equally on how rapid a team executes its overs. Pant, Axar, Hardik, and Samson are examples of captains who have already faced punishment. Warning to others: keep your minds sharp, stay nimble, or else.

For cricket fans who have been watching Indian cricket for years, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has always seemed soft-spoken, calm, and extremely dedicated to his work. But in a rare, emotional stint on The Ranveer Show (TRS) podcast, the seasoned pacer pulled back the veil on his personal life, including his affection for Bollywood and an unexpected IPL secret that's got fans smiling.

Presently a central part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) bowling lineup for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Bhuvneshwar Kumar is exhibiting glimpses of his past glory. Out of action on the international scene for some time now, his consistent performances with RCB have raised eyebrows. But in a welcome departure from match-hype, the pacer recently reminisced straight back to the inaugural season of the IPL way back in 2008. Interviewing podcast host Ranveer Allahbadia on TRS, Bhuvneshwar shared that as a young cricketer in 2008, he supported the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Why? Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.In a cricketing life full of unspoken resolve and quiet service to the team, it is perhaps no wonder that Bhuvi resonates with the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, a global superstar whose humility lies behind his glistening glamour.

"In 2008, I was rooting for KKR because of Shah Rukh Khan. He is so down-to-earth and speaks very normally, like a best friend. I love all his films, Ram Jaane, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Koyla, Duplicate. He speaks so beautifully and has you believing you knew him for ages. He's so unassuming. It's impossible not to be a fan," Bhuvneshwar smiled.

New Chapter With RCB for Bhuveshwar Kumar

While his comments on KKR stirred nostalgia, Bhuvneshwar’s present is firmly with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After a long stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Uttar Pradesh-born pacer found himself released before the mega-auction, a move that surprised many but gave him a fresh start. RCB didn't delay. They picked him up for INR 10.75 crore, indicating how much faith they still have in the veteran campaigner. And Bhuvi hasn't let them down.

In five games to date, he has six wickets to his credit with an economy of 7.84, which is extremely neat given the batting-friendly pitches of the IPL. His average reads a respectable 24.83, but importantly, he's been RCB's go-to man in tight spots, particularly in the powerplay and death overs. Bhuvi’s resurgence has coincided with RCB’s strong start to the season. With four wins from six matches, they currently sit third on the points table with eight points and a solid net run rate of +0.672. There’s a growing sense among fans that this could finally be the year for RCB. Their subsequent encounter is with Punjab Kings on April 18 at the legendary M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, a ground that has witnessed both heartbreak and history over time. Bhuvneshwar will surely have an important say in that match, bringing his cool under fire to a team that's normally thrived on passion and flair.

It’s not every day that cricketers open up about their pop culture influences or childhood fandoms. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s candid chat on The Ranveer Show offered a refreshing peek into the man behind the outswinger. From idolizing Shah Rukh Khan to now holding his own in one of the world’s most demanding T20 leagues, Bhuvi’s journey continues to inspire quietly, gracefully, just like the man himself. And perhaps, maybe possibly, the young lad who rooted for KKR because of Shahrukh Khan might raise an IPL trophy under the colours of RCB, reworking his script, Bollywood fashion.

<![CDATA[Virat Kohli’s “Ghante Ka Peace” goes viral, fans suspect Babar Azam dig]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/virat-kohli-s-ghante-ka-peace-goes-viral-fans-suspect-babar-azam-dig/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/virat-kohli-s-ghante-ka-peace-goes-viral-fans-suspect-babar-azam-dig/ Tue, 15 Apr 2025 13:31:53 GMT

Virat Kohli once again stole the spotlight—not just with his bat, but this time with a witty one-liner that’s gone viral. During a recent episode of the popular RCB Insider Show featuring Mr. Nags, Kohli delivered the phrase “Ghante ka peace,” which quickly became a hit among fans on social media. The hilarious moment occurred during a comedic segment where Kohli was portrayed in a so-called "meditative state," only to be hilariously interrupted by Mr. Nags.

As Mr. Nags attempted a friendly yet awkward embrace, Kohli’s visible discomfort set the tone for the comedy that followed. Unimpressed, Kohli pulled his hand away and instructed, “Sitting there now will work.” Nags, never one to miss a moment, poked fun by reminding Kohli of his earlier advice about showing affection to friends. Kohli's sharp response, “Love should be extended after a proper bath,” had the audience in splits.

The interaction peaked when Mr. Nags, trying to walk away to preserve the "peace," was met with Kohli’s now-iconic retort—“Ghante ka peace.” The moment not only showcased Kohli’s quick wit but also added a new catchphrase to the IPL 2025 lexicon. Fans are loving this off-field avatar of Kohli, as his charisma continues to shine both on the pitch and in front of the camera.

Fans connect the remark to Babar Azam

Virat Kohli’s now-viral phrase “Ghante ka peace” sparked comparisons with the popular catchphrase “Ghante ka king,” used by a Pakistani YouTuber to mock Babar Azam’s performance. While Kohli didn’t explicitly mention Babar, many fans drew connections between the two comments, fueling widespread speculation and online debates about whether the Indian star was subtly taking a jab at his Pakistani counterpart.

On the field, Kohli continues to let his bat do the talking. With 248 runs in six matches, he stands as Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s top scorer and ranks fifth overall in IPL 2025. Maintaining an impressive average of 62 and a strike rate of over 140, Kohli has notched up three half-centuries so far this season. His consistency and form have firmly placed him in contention for the Orange Cap. Currently sitting third on the IPL 2025 points table, RCB's strong performance has been largely powered by Kohli’s brilliance. As the tournament progresses, the franchise's hopes of clinching their maiden title could heavily rest on their talisman’s continued dominance.

In the recent past, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) seldom looked confident enough on the field to be an IPL champion. This year, the scenario is different. With the leadership of Rajat Patidar, RCB looks solid enough for a possible title shot. Performance on the field can have some impact off the field also.

RCB, now third in the points table after playing 6, is now experiencing an elated vibe from all corners of the dressing. In a video shared by Royal Challengers Bengaluru on social media, we can see a prank applied on Virat Kohli.

That's how David pranked Kohli

The plan to put Virat on complications was mainly planned by his teammate Tim David. David took a bat out from Kohli's bag and put it into his own kit. When Virat came back into the dressing room and checked his bag, he found that a bat was missing. Then he started to search for his lost item. In the video, we can hear Virat saying, "I counted my bats yesterday; it was seven. It's six now."

During the absence of former 'Captain Hot,' David on camera said, "I want to see how long it will take Virat to realize we have taken one of his bats." Virat did take very little time to realize that one of his bats was not in his kit bag.

Soon Kohli finds his bat in Tim David's kit, lying safe on a transparent cover. The entire room burst out in laughter witnessing this whole prank. Virat, at the end, said, "Sabko pata tha na (Everyone knew about it. Right?)"

Yesterday RCB won over Rajasthan Royals in an away match. It was a close encounter between these two teams. But Bengaluru was the better performer, better than Rajasthan. RCB's next match is scheduled for April 18, against Punjab Kings at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

<![CDATA[Top teams with best powerplay bowling performances in IPL 2025]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-stats/teams-with-the-best-powerplay-bowling-in-ipl-2025/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-stats/teams-with-the-best-powerplay-bowling-in-ipl-2025/ Mon, 14 Apr 2025 06:53:36 GMT

The powerplay plays a pivotal role in shaping the outcome of an IPL match. It offers batters a golden window to accelerate the scoring rate, often setting the tone with quick boundaries and aggressive intent. On the flip side, bowlers use this phase to apply pressure, aiming to dismiss key batters early and disrupt momentum. The unpredictability of the powerplay means anything can happen—flurries of fours and sixes or dramatic top-order collapses. IPL 2025 has already delivered several explosive powerplays, showcasing both blistering batting and standout bowling efforts. However, one big question remains: Which team has been the most effective with the ball during these critical first six overs? Let’s dive into the numbers and find out.

5 low-scoring powerplays in IPL 2025

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Chennai

Royal Challengers Bengaluru enjoyed a memorable outing in Chennai, securing a vital win against the Chennai Super Kings at their fortress, Chepauk. The match turned in RCB’s favor right from the powerplay, where their bowlers delivered a masterclass in discipline and aggression. CSK, known for their dominance at home, were restricted to just 30 runs in the first six overs while also losing three key wickets during this crucial phase. This early breakthrough gave RCB the upper hand, and they maintained control throughout the game. The powerplay performance proved to be a game-changer, laying the foundation for RCB’s eventual victory and highlighting the impact of a strong bowling strategy in the opening overs of an IPL match.

2. CSK vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai

In another low-scoring powerplay at Chennai, Chennai Super Kings struggled once again, managing just 31 runs for the loss of two wickets in the first six overs. The slow start put them on the back foot early in the match. Kolkata Knight Riders capitalized on this early advantage, maintaining pressure throughout the game. Despite a valiant effort from CSK, the poor powerplay performance cost them dearly, and KKR emerged victorious. The lack of momentum in the early overs was a key factor in CSK’s defeat, as they couldn't recover from the early setbacks in their innings.

3. KKR vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Kolkata

Eden Gardens, known for its high-scoring powerplays in the past, witnessed a different story in this match. Kolkata Knight Riders dominated the powerplay, leaving Sunrisers Hyderabad struggling. SRH managed only 33 runs in the first six overs while losing three key wickets. The early setbacks put SRH on the back foot, and they couldn't recover from the pressure. KKR's disciplined bowling and tight fielding made the difference, setting the tone for the rest of the match. Despite efforts to recover, SRH couldn't overcome the early loss of wickets, and KKR secured a comfortable win.

4. RCB vs Gujarat Titans (GT), Bengaluru

Gujarat Titans' bowlers delivered a brilliant performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore, dominating the powerplay. RCB's batters struggled, managing just 38 runs while losing 3 crucial wickets. The Titans' bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths, ensuring that RCB could not capitalize on the early overs. This solid powerplay performance gave Gujarat an early advantage, and they continued to apply pressure throughout the match. Despite RCB's efforts to recover, GT's well-executed strategy and dominant bowling helped them secure a convincing win. It was a complete display of bowling discipline that turned the game in Gujarat's favor.

5. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vs Punjab Kings (PBKS), Lucknow

Punjab Kings' bowlers delivered a dominant performance, restricting Lucknow Super Giants to just 39/3 in the powerplay, leaving little room for the LSG batters to get going. PBKS maintained tight pressure, and the early breakthroughs set the tone for the rest of the match, leading to a well-earned victory. These performances, particularly from teams like Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore, have been the standout bowling figures in IPL 2025 so far. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have faced continuous struggles, often finding themselves in uncomfortable situations early on, making them one of the unluckiest teams in the competition.

The IPL 2025 Match 28 between Rajasthan Royals(RR) and Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) took place on April 13 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. RCB decided to be the bowling team after winning the toss against RR.

Rajasthan Royals Innings

Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a 35-ball fifty as he scored 75 from 47 balls while hitting Josh Hazlewood for four and six during RR's innings. Jaiswal partnered with Riyan Parag, who scored 27 runs, while both players benefitted from a powerful first over period that produced 10.7 runs. The momentum in RR's batting slowed down due to Sanju Samson's deliberate batting style since he scored 17 runs from 19 balls, while Yash Dayal delivered his slower delivery to dismiss Parag. Dhruv Jurel finished the innings with 35* runs from 23 balls to lead RR batting, while the team scored 38 runs in the last five overs. A tight line-strike display from Krunal Pandya and Yash Dayal (combined figures of 1/59) failed to stop the Rajasthan Royals from scoring 173 which fell short of Jaipur's home pitch average of 180.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru Innings

In the RCB pursuit of the target Phil Salt delivered an electrifying performance of 65 runs in 33 balls while hitting his half-century in 28 balls by striking Jofra Archer with a six. Virat Kohli provided an outstanding unbeaten half-century while Devdutt Padikkal finished with an unbroken thirty as both players concluded the victory for their team. Archer (0/40) and the other bowlers performed poorly while dropped catches from RR created more difficulties for them. Directional play during RCB’s batting run in the fourth match brought them their fourth win among six attempts.

Post-Match Reactions

 • Rajat Patidar (RCB Captain): Happy with how the bowlers bowled, especially in the powerplay. Said the pitch was tough and that they were looking to score around 150-170. Complimented the batting of Phil Salt, and Virat Kohli. Said they will always play positive cricket no matter where they are playing.
 • Sanju Samson (RR Captain): Felt 170 was a good total but the powerplay for RCB took the game away from them. Said both teams dropped catches, but gave RCB credit for their performance in the game. Said the team is taking responsibility for their mistakes, and will come back again.
 • Devdutt Padikkal (RCB): Working on some technical things in his batting and has been working with DK and Andy. Said he is happy with that role in the batting order and looking to score regularly. Said they have to avoid losing 2 or 3 wickets in a row at home.
 • Phil Salt (Player of the Match): Yeah very pleased with my performance especially on the road. The venue was slightly different for me. I spoke about it before the game that I wanted to get my side to a good start and I am happy that I did exactly that today.
