Sent into bat, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) scored 172/8. In reply, Rajasthan Royals (RR) chased down the target of 173 with six balls to spare.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag shine as RR defeat RCB in IPL eliminator

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal struck a 30-ball 45, while Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer chipped in with quick-fire contributions of 36 and 26, respectively. Earlier, Rajat Patidar top-scored for RCB with 34 off 22 balls. In-form opener Virat Kohli made 33 off 24 balls before falling to wily leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, while Mahipal Lomror scored a brisk 17-ball 32. Senior India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bowled beautifully, finishing with excellent figures of 2/19 in four overs, taking the wickets of Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell off successive balls. Avesh Khan took 3/44 in his four overs.

The match started with Rajasthan Royals winning the toss and opting to bowl first. RCB lost its first wicket when Faf Du Plessis was caught by Powell off Trent Boult for 17 runs. RCB reached 50 runs in six overs at the end of the powerplay.

Virat Kohli’s milestone and Ashwin’s brilliant bowling fail to bring results

Virat Kohli became the first batsman to score 8000 runs in IPL history before being dismissed for 33 by Chahal, leaving RCB at 56/2. Patidar was dropped by Jurel on 6, and RCB stood at 82/2 after 11 overs. Ashwin then took a crucial breakthrough, dismissing Cameron Green for 27, caught by Powell, and Glenn Maxwell for a duck on the very next ball, leaving RCB at 97/4.

Patidar fell for 34 to Avesh Khan, taking RCB to 122/5. Dinesh Karthik was caught by Jaiswal off Avesh Khan for 11, making it 154/6. Lomror’s quick 32 off 17 balls ended with his dismissal by Avesh Khan, and RCB finished their innings at 172/8.

Rajasthan Royals started their chase with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tom Kohler-Cadmore. RCB dropped two catches in the first five overs. Kohler-Cadmore was dismissed for 20 by Ferguson, leaving RR at 47/1 after six overs at the end of the powerplay. Cameron Green got Jaiswal out for 45, and Karn Sharma stumped Sanju Samson for 17, making it 86/3. Dhruv Jurel was run out by Virat Kohli for 8, leaving RR at 112/4. Parag then hit two sixes and a four off Green’s over, bringing momentum back to RR.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) booked their ticket to Qualifier 2 of IPL 2024 in a thrilling encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 4 wickets. With contributions from key players and a commendable bowling performance, RR demonstrated their ability to thrive under pressure and overcome formidable opponents.

RR’s Steady Start

The chase commenced with a solid partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tom Kohler-Cadmore, providing RR a steady start. However, RR faced setbacks with the dismissals of Kohler-Cadmore, Jaiswal, and skipper Sanju Samson, disrupting their momentum during the crucial phase of the match.

Jaiswal then built another steady partnership, adding 25 runs off 23 balls with skipper Sanju Samson. However, Jaiswal fell to a Cameron Green delivery in the 10th over. Shortly after, Samson was stumped by Karn Sharma.

RR suffered their fourth setback when Dhruv Jurel was run out by a sharp throw from Kohli off a delivery from Cameron Green. Jurel departed after contributing 8 runs off 8 balls. At the end of 14 overs, RR’s scorecard read 115/4.

Powell’s Heroics Seal the Win

Amidst the late drama, Rovman Powell emerged as the hero for RR, showcasing nerves of steel as he guided his team to victory with a sensational display of batting prowess.

RR’s Bowling Masterclass

RR’s disciplined bowling, led by pacer Avesh Khan and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, restricted RCB to a modest total of 172/8. The bowlers maintained control throughout the innings, ensuring limited scoring opportunities for the opposition.

Key Moments in RCB’s Batting

In RCB’s innings, key moments such as Trent Boult’s early breakthroughs and Ashwin’s impactful spell have tilted the balance in favour of RR. Despite efforts from RCB’s top order, including Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, RR’s bowlers maintained their composure and executed their plans effectively.

Maxwell’s Disappointing Form

Notably, Glenn Maxwell’s struggle with the bat continued as he registered yet another duck, adding to RCB’s woes in the middle order. His failure to make an impact further compounded RCB’s challenges in setting a formidable target for RR.

In the high-stakes clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2024 Eliminator, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel found themselves in a precarious situation. But run-out from Kohli of Jurel left everyone stunned. With RR chasing a target of 173 runs, the pressure was on the batters to deliver a solid performance.

The Crucial Run-Out

The partnership between Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel faced a setback due to a lapse in communication and poor running between the wickets. Despite the opportunity for an easy single, hesitation and lack of urgency led to Jurel’s downfall.

Virat Kohli’s Stellar Effort

Virat Kohli showcased his brilliance on the field with a sensational run-out that caught Dhruv Jurel short of his crease. His lightning-fast reflexes and accurate throw stunned Jurel and the RR camp, emphasizing the importance of sharp fielding in tight matches.

Jurel’s dismissal shifted the momentum in favour of RCB, putting additional pressure on the RR batting lineup. As the required run rate escalated, the need for a substantial partnership became even more critical.

Change in Dynamics

With Shimron Hetmeyer stepping in as the new batter, RR’s strategy had to adapt to accommodate Jurel’s loss. The pressure was on Hetmeyer to stabilize the innings and build a partnership with Parag.

As the match progressed, the mounting pressure on RR was evident. Despite Parag’s valiant efforts, the team needed significant contributions from the lower order to secure victory against a formidable RCB bowling attack.

Karn Sharma’s Missed Opportunity

A crucial moment arrived when RCB spinner Karn Sharma missed a run-out chance, highlighting the significance of maintaining focus and awareness in high-pressure situations. The missed opportunity could have altered the course of the match.

RCB’s Batting Performance

RCB’s batting performance set the tone for the match, with contributions from key players like Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli. Despite facing challenges from the RR bowlers, RCB managed to post a competitive total.

Virat Kohli becomes 1st batter to smash 8,000 runs in IPL

The unstoppable Virat Kohli achieved a remarkable milestone during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) showdown with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Kohli etched his name in history by becoming the first player ever to amass a staggering 8,000 runs in IPL history. Kohli accomplished this extraordinary feat in his 244th innings while donning the RCB jersey.

Previously, Kohli had equaled the legendary Chris Gayle’s record by surpassing the 700-run mark in a single IPL season. Gayle had achieved this remarkable feat twice for RCB in 2012 and 2013, showcasing his sheer dominance with the bat. However, Kohli’s consistency and prowess saw him breach this landmark for the first time back in 2016 and now in 2024.

The IPL 2024 Eliminator clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was marred by controversy stemming from a contentious umpiring decision that ignited a storm of debate and speculation. As cricket enthusiasts dissect the incident, questions surrounding the integrity of the game have emerged, leading to heated discussions both on and off the field.

The Umpiring Controversy

The television umpire, Anil Chaudhary, found himself at the storm’s centre when a leg-before decision during RCB’s innings triggered a wave of controversy. The decision favoured Dinesh Karthik was met with skepticism and scrutiny, leading to a heated debate over its validity.

The Incident

In the 14th over of RCB’s innings, Dinesh Karthik was adjudged leg-before off Avesh Khan’s delivery. However, upon review, television replays raised doubts about the accuracy of the decision, with suggestions that Karthik might have edged the ball before it made contact with his pad.

Television replays, particularly the UltraEdge technology, were crucial in dissecting the incident. While the initial spike on UltraEdge hinted at the contact between bat and pad, subsequent analysis revealed discrepancies, casting doubt on the accuracy of the decision.

Reactions and Fallout

The controversial decision sparked a flurry of reactions from various quarters, including commentators, team officials, and fans. While commentators criticized the decision on air, RR’s head coach, Kumar Sangakkara, was visibly agitated in the dugout, expressing his discontent with the ruling.

Social Media Outcry

After the incident, social media platforms became battlegrounds for heated exchanges and accusations. Allegations of match-fixing and umpire bias flooded online discussions, amplifying the controversy and adding fuel to the fire of speculation.

Ravi Shastri said, “Dinesh Karthik was clearly out. Completely unfair to RR here. Umpire should have checked the review 4-5 times before giving the decision.”

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a stage where cricketing talents shine, and veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has left an indelible mark on Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) journey. With his recent milestone as RR’s highest wicket-taker, Chahal’s impact and journey in the IPL warrant a closer look.

Breaking Records

Chahal’s ascent to the top of RR’s wicket-taking charts came during the Eliminator match of IPL 2024 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Ahmedabad. This milestone underscores his prowess and reflects his invaluable contributions to RR’s success.

Chahal solidified his position as a stalwart in RR’s bowling arsenal by surpassing the previous record-holder, Siddharth Trivedi. Trivedi, a former pacer for RR, held the record with 65 IPL wickets from 76 matches. Chahal’s achievement marks a significant milestone in his IPL journey.

Most wickets for RR in the IPL
66 – Yuzvendra Chahal (SR: 15.6)
65 – Siddharth Trivedi (SR: 23.1)
61 – Shane Watson (SR: 22.3)
57 – Shane Warne (SR: 20.9)
47 – James Faulkner (SR: 19.2)

Chahal’s IPL Journey with Rajasthan Royals

Chahal’s association with RR commenced during the IPL 2022 mega auction when the franchise acquired him. Since then, he has been instrumental in shaping RR’s bowling dynamics.

Chahal’s impact was immediate. In his debut season for RR, he clinched the Purple Cap, amassing 27 wickets at an impressive average of 19.51. His consistent performances were pivotal in RR’s journey to the final, where they finished as runners-up.

In subsequent seasons, Chahal continued to dominate with his spin wizardry. His ability to pick crucial wickets and maintain an economical bowling rate has made him a linchpin in RR’s bowling lineup.

The ongoing IPL season has further showcased Chahal’s prowess on the field. As RR’s leading wicket-taker, he has scalped 18 wickets across 15 matches, reaffirming his status as one of the league’s premier spinners.

Record-Breaking Feats

Chahal’s achievements extend beyond RR’s record books. Earlier this season, he surpassed legendary Shane Warne to become RR’s most successful spinner in IPL history. Additionally, he became the first bowler to reach 200 IPL wickets, solidifying his place among the league’s elite.

Chahal’s Journey Across Teams

Chahal’s journey in the IPL has seen him represent multiple franchises, including Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), before finding his home at RR.

During his tenure with RCB, Chahal emerged as a pivotal figure in their bowling lineup, amassing over 100 wickets and establishing himself as the franchise’s leading wicket-taker.

IPL 2024: RR vs RCB, Eliminator: Who said what at the toss?

Faf du Plessis: Would’ve done the same. Watching the game last night, there was assistance for the seam bowlers early on. This looks on the drier side with some fake grass on top. We’ve had that mindset right through. Focussing on your own skills, being true to the way you want to play. Last game against CSK was an unbelievable one. Less is more. People think when you get to the knockout stages, you need to be Superman. It’s just showing the boys that you trust them. Same team.

Sanju Samson: Would like to bowl first looking at the conditions and the wicket. There was dew last night. It’s all about the mindset. Really excited to come and play in this fabulous stadium. Great energy here. Looking at what has cricket taught us. When you have bad days, need to have the character and confidence. That has been the challenging part – fitness and injuries.
