South Africa is hosting a two-match Test series against Pakistan, with Pakistan touring as visitors. South Africa already won the first Test match and leads the series 1-0. They have also qualified for the WTC final, but they are still showing their dominance in the second Test. This match is being played at Cape Town, where the pitch suits the batters more.

In their first innings of the second Test, South Africa’s batting lineup dominated Pakistan’s bowlers on their home soil. Even though the top-order batters Markram, Mulder, and Stubbs failed to make big contributions, captain Temba Bavuma and Ryan Rickelton put on a brilliant 235-run partnership. Rickelton reached his century during the second session on Day 1, and soon after, Bavuma followed him, bringing up his century in the third session. Bavuma got out for 106 runs at the end of Day 1, but Rickelton remained unbeaten, ready to continue on Day 2.

On the second day, Rickelton started with David Bedingham, but Bedingham couldn’t last long in the morning session. After his dismissal, wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne joined Rickelton at the crease. Verreynne played an aggressive knock, scoring 100 runs, which included five huge sixes. He shared a 148-run partnership with Rickelton, and what stood out was how Verreynne dominated during this stand, showcasing his power-hitting ability.

The highlight of the innings, however, was Ryan Rickelton’s magnificent 259 runs. His innings included 29 fours and 3 sixes, completely dismantling Pakistan’s bowling attack. Pakistan’s prime bowlers had a tough time, with four of their five main bowlers conceding over 100 runs. Even Mohammad Abbas, who gave away 94 runs, couldn’t escape the punishment. It was a nightmare for Pakistan’s bowlers as South Africa piled on the runs.

Toward the end of the innings, Marco Jansen (62 runs) and Keshav Maharaj (40 runs) added valuable runs with their cameos. Their contributions helped South Africa reach a massive total of 615 runs in their first innings.

Pakistan started their innings under pressure, facing a huge deficit. The pitch looked good for batting, but South Africa’s quality bowling attack made things tough for Pakistan. By the end of Day 2, Pakistan was struggling at 64 for 3, still trailing by 551 runs. Captain Babar Azam was unbeaten on 31, while Mohammad Rizwan was batting on 9. Pakistan faces an uphill battle to get back into the match.

In a thrilling Test match at Centurion, South Africa defeated Pakistan by two wickets, chasing a modest target of 148 runs. The game was intense, with Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas delivering a stellar performance, taking six wickets to keep South Africa under constant pressure. Despite losing wickets at crucial moments, South Africa’s lower order, led by Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, displayed nerves of steel to guide the team to victory.

Securing a Spot in the WTC 25 Final

This victory has more significance than just a series lead—it guarantees South Africa a place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, set to be held at Lord’s in June 2025. Before this series, the Proteas knew that winning one of the two Tests against Pakistan would seal their qualification. With this result, no other team can now overtake them in the WTC points table.

South Africa’s qualification reflects their consistent performances throughout this WTC cycle. Under the steady leadership of Temba Bavuma, the team has faced numerous challenges but emerged stronger each time. Their ability to perform in crucial matches, both at home and abroad, has played a pivotal role in their success. This win also highlights the depth of their squad, with players stepping up when needed the most.

South African All-Rounder Corbin Bosch is having a dream Test debut in the first Test between South Africa and Pakistan and Centurion. South Africa finished their first innings as they were all out for 301 and they lead by 90 runs.

In response to Pakistan's 211 South Africa was able to post 301 on the board. Opener Aiden Markram was the highest scorer for them with 89(144) 11 runs short of his well-deserved hundred. When Markram was dismissed South Africa was in deep trouble as they were 213-8 leading by only 2 runs. But then debutant Corbin Bosch shined with the bat as well and remained unbeaten at the end with 81 runs in 93 balls. His partnership with Kagiso Rabada and Dane Paterson took Proteas to a total of 301 and a healthy lead of 90 runs. Corbin Bosch's half-century on Test debut also made him the first South African to achieve the remarkable feat of a four-wicket haul and a 50+ score on Test debut. It was also his highest first-class score. His fifty was the Second-fastest fifty (46 balls) on Test debut for South Africa. It was the Highest score by a South African debutant batting at 9 or lower.

Unfortunately, Corbin Bosch went unsold in the IPL Auction 2025. With the impact player reducing the value of all-rounders in IPL, Corbin Bosch couldn’t fetch him a contract this time around. Indian All-Rounder Ravichandran Ashwin worked closely with Corbin Bosch with Rajasthan Royals three years ago. Ashwin said that he has started good with the ball but don't forget that he averages 40 plus with the bat in First Class. And Bosch didn't disappoint as he shined with the knock of 81*(93).

Babar Azam made his return to red-ball cricket through the Boxing Day Test between Pakistan and South Africa at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Thursday, December 26. Well, he wasn't able to make his return special with a big knock but the former Pakistan skipper joined the elite list only after two cricketers.

Babar Azam was able to make only four runs on his return to the Test side. Still, it was enough for him to become the third player to score over 4,000 runs in all three formats of the game in the international circuit. He joined current Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma and his teammate Virat Kohli who also have 4,000-plus runs in all three formats.

Babar has scored 4001 runs from 56 Tests, 5957 runs from 123 ODIs, and 4,223 runs from 128 T20Is in his international career.

He wasn't able to score more as he was dismissed by Pacer Dane Paterson off second slip.

They were dismissed in consecutive overs by Corbin Bosch and Dane Paterson respectively. Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Rizwan stitched an 81-run partnership. But it was broken again as Dane Paterson dismissed Kamran Ghulam for a well-made 54. Salman Agha and Aamer Jamal's partnership of 47 runs took Pakistan close to the 200-run mark. Pakistan were dismissed for 211 as Dane Paterson bagged five wickets. Meanwhile, debutant Corbin Bosch picked up four.

Pakistan struck early in the 3rd over itself as Khurram Shahzad got better of left-handed batter Tony de Zorzi for 2(8). He dismissed another left-hander Ryan Rickelton for 8(10). Pacer Mohammad Abbas who made his return into the side after three years dismissed Tristan Stubbs by LBW for 9(28) restricting Proteas to 66-3. Proteas end the Day 1 on 89-3 trailing by 129 runs with Aiden Markram 47*(67) and Skipper Temba Bavuma on 4*(23).
