Sachin Tendulkar's Emotional Farewell Test: A Tribute to His Mother

Sachin Tendulkar is famous cricket player and everyone calls him the 'Master blaster.' When he discussed his last game, he felt very upset. This important game happened at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and they had a party because the stadium turned 50 years old. Sachin asked the bcci who make the cricket schedules, the BCCI, to let him play his final game from November 14 to 16, 2013, in Mumbai. Mister Tendulkar truly wished for his mom to watch him play. That's why he played his last game against the West Indies team at that very wankhede stadium.

A Special Request to BCCI from sachin tendulkar

Tendulkar revealed that he had personally reached out to BCCI president, N. Srinivasan, before the series was announced. He requested that his farewell match be held at Wankhede Stadium so that his mother, who had never watched him play live from the stands, could witness him in action for the first time. "Before the series was announced, I got in touch with the BCCI and made one request. I wanted my last match to be held in Mumbai because my mother had never seen me play live. At that time, her health was not good, and she couldn't travel. Sachin's mom was very sick and had never seen him play cricket at the stadium before. Mister Tendulkar wanted his last game to be at Wankhede Stadium so his mom could watch him play in that place for the first time.

Recalling the emotional moments from the last day of his illustrious career, Tendulkar expressed his struggle to stay focused amid overwhelming emotions. He humorously remarked about the broadcast director's choice to show visuals of his family, particularly his mother, while he was batting. "When I walked out to bat, the West Indies players showed great respect, and the crowd gave me a warm reception. I was emotional, but I had to stay focused. However, just before the final over, I saw a close up of my mother on the big screen. She didn't realize it, and I wondered if those shots were necessary," Tendulkar recalled. Adding a touch of humor, he quipped, "I doubted the director of the broadcast had a West Indies passport because I thought he was playing with my emotions."

And Mister Tendulkar was in 200 Test games, which is more than anyone else ever. Mister Tendulkar even scored 15,921 runs, which is the most ever runs in Test cricket. Mister Tendulkar hit the ball so far and so well that he made 51 hundreds and 68 fifties. Sachin is definitely a cricket hero in all the indian fans.

As Tendulkar reflected on his farewell Test, it was evident that the match held a deeper significance beyond cricket. It was a tribute to his unwavering dedication and an opportunity to share his achievements with his mother, who had been his silent pillar of strength throughout his journey. The farewell Test at Wankhede Stadium not only marked the end of an era but also showcased the deep emotional bond Tendulkar shared with his family and his beloved city of Mumbai. Former Australian captain and Indian head coach Greg Chappell recently praised an in-form English cricketer and compared him with the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

He might even have outpaced the Indian maestro: Greg Chappell

Recently, the legendary Australian all-rounder Greg Chappell wrote a column for the Sydney Morning Herald, where he highly praised the 25-year-old English cricketer Harry Brook. Comparing him with the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, with whom Chappell worked as a head coach of the Indian national cricket team, the former Aussie cricketer felt that Brook might have outpaced Tendulkar at a similar stage.

Chappell claimed, “Harry Brook, a batting sensation whose performances and approach I compare to the great Sachin Tendulkar. Remarkably, Brook’s early career stats suggest he might even have outpaced the Indian maestro in terms of impact at the same stage.”

Chappel is impressed with Brook’s effective batting method, who is confident and strong in the crease.

The former Australia star added, “At just 25, Brook has rapidly become one of the most talked-about cricketers in the world. He boasts a simple but devastatingly effective batting method. Much like Tendulkar in his early years, Brook doesn’t move excessively in the crease before the ball is delivered.”

After making his international cricket debut in January 2022, Brook has scored 2281 runs in 24 Test matches, 719 runs in 20 ODIs, and 707 runs in 39 T20Is. The right-handed batter has a Test batting average of 58.48, including eight centuries and 10 half-centuries. Last October, during the Multan Test against the hosts Pakistan, Brook recorded a triple century (317), which was the first Test triple century by an English cricketer in the 21st century.

Why is Harry Brook a nightmare for bowlers?

Talking about why the English batter looked dangerous, Chappell claimed, “Brook’s ability to combine aggression with consistency makes him a nightmare for bowlers because, much like Tendulkar, he’s incredibly hard to contain.”

Chappell also clarified why Brook read the bowlers better than the other batters. He wrote, “Brook’s stability and minimalistic technique allow him to read the angles of the bowler and adjust his strokes with precision. The result? An extraordinary ability to score from most deliveries, whether they’re pitched full, short, or on an awkward length.”

Last year, Brook finished as the fourth-leading run-scorer in Test and international cricket with 1100 and 1575 runs, respectively.

Vinod Kambli conveys special thanks to the doctors for saving his life

Kambli's deteriorating health remains a concern for many of his loved ones including his ardent fans. But despite battling several health challenges upfront, the ex-cricketer seems to be holding up well. Kambli, in his maiden statement after being admitted thanked the doctors for their continued efforts in restoring his degrading health. Moreover, S Singh, the hospital in-charge also assured Kambli of life-long free treatment.

"I am alive because of the doctors here. All I would say is that I will do whatever sir (referring to the doctor) asks me to. People will see the inspiration that I'll give them."

At the time of his admission, Kambli was in a poor mental condition. He was observed to have been suffering from fever and dizziness and appeared very drowsy upon his arrival at the hospital. But Dr Vivek confirms that the cricketer is now in a position to respond to the doctors, hospital staff, and fans, serving as an indication that he is on the slow path to recovery.

"When he was admitted on Saturday, he was having massive cramps along with fever and dizziness. He was not able to sit, and was not able to walk. He was also drowsy at the time of admission. "We did all the investigation and after that came to know that he was having a urinary tract infection along with electrolyte imbalance. Sodium was a bit on the lower side, potassium was on the lower side. That was the reason for the cramps. His BP was also on the lower side. We started him on antibiotics."

More on Kambli's deteriorating health condition

Kambli's health has been sliding downhill for quite some time now. However, serious concerns sparked when the ex-cricketer was spotted with his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar during the unveiling ceremony of Achrekar's stature. Since then, more visuals of him emerged where was spotted walking with a lot of discomfort without the support. Besides, this was not the first time Kambli was admitted to the hospital.

In a recent interview, he revealed he was admitted to the hospital about a month ago after he collapsed on the ground.

“I was suffering from a urine problem. It was just flowing. My son, Jesus Cristiano, picked me up and brought me back to my feet. My daughter, who is 10 years old, and my wife came to help me. This happened one month ago. My head started spinning; I collapsed and fell down. The doctor told me to get admitted."

Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli are childhood friends

Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli were two of the greatest students who were trained by Ramakant Achrekar. Achrekar’s other trained popular Indian cricketers were Ajit Agarkar, Chandrakant Pandit, Ramesh Powar, Pravin Amre, etc.

Tendulkar and Kambli’s friendship had already shined before their international cricket debut. During a Lord Harris Shield inter-school game against St. Xavier's High School in 1988, Sharadashram batters Tendulkar and Kambli set up an unbroken 664-run partnership. Kambli scored 349 runs, and Tendulkar scored 329 not out.

Tendulkar and Kambli played 114 international matches together

While Tendulkar made his international cricket debut in 1989, Kambli made his international debut in 1991. Both shined in their early international career. Tendulkar became a legend who enjoyed international cricket for more than two decades and set many great batting records, along with playing an important role during India’s title-winning journey in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

On the other hand, Kambli slowly moved away from the limelight due to his continuous poor form with the bat. India vs. Australia has been one of the most exciting rivalries in cricket history, delivering unforgettable matches since their first encounter in 1947-48. The contrasting playing conditions in the two countries add a layer of intrigue, making every series unique. Over the decades, many Indian batters have risen to the challenge, dominating Australian bowlers at home and away.

Here’s a look at the top five Indian batters who have scored the most runs against Australia in Test cricket.

5. Virat Kohli – 2042 Runs

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has an outstanding record against Australia across formats. In Test cricket, he ranks fifth among Indians with the most runs against the Aussies.

In 25 matches, Kohli has amassed 2042 runs at an average of 47.48, including eight centuries (the second-most by an Indian vs. Australia) and five half-centuries. His highest score of 186 reflects his dominance with the bat. Kohli's leadership was historic; under him, India secured their first-ever Test series victory in Australia in 2018-19.

4. Cheteshwar Pujara – 2074 Runs

Known for his grit and resilience, Cheteshwar Pujara has been a thorn in Australia’s side. Between 2010 and 2023, Pujara played 25 Tests against them, scoring 2074 runs at an average of 49.38.

Pujara was instrumental in India’s victories in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series, emerging as the highest scorer in 2016-17 and 2018-19, and the second-highest in 2020-21. His tally includes five centuries and 11 half-centuries, proving his consistency across challenging conditions.

<![CDATA[Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Why Perth remains a tough start for India against Australia?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/bordergavaskar-trophy-why-perth-remains-a-tough-start-for-india-against-australia/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/bordergavaskar-trophy-why-perth-remains-a-tough-start-for-india-against-australia/ Wed, 06 Nov 2024 11:21:02 GMT

As the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy approaches, Team India is set to kick off their campaign with a daunting opener in Perth, a venue historically known for its pace, bounce, and challenge for subcontinental teams. From memorable centuries by Sachin Tendulkar to a remarkable win in 2008, India’s encounters in Perth have been a mix of highs and lows. But as Rohit Sharma’s side aims for a 4-0 series victory to directly qualify for the World Test Championship final, starting in Perth could pose a unique challenge.

Early encounters at the WACA ground

The WACA Ground in Perth, often described as Australia’s fastest and most intimidating pitch, has long been a difficult arena for Indian teams raised on slower, lower surfaces. India’s journey at the WACA began in 1977 under captain Bishan Singh Bedi, who led the team to a competitive performance despite a narrow 2-wicket loss. A century by Sunil Gavaskar and a strong showing by Mohinder Amarnath showcased India's skill, even though Australia eventually chased down the target.

One of India’s most unforgettable performances in Perth came in 1992 when an 18-year-old Sachin Tendulkar scored a magnificent 114 against a formidable Australian attack. Despite the team’s overall struggle, Tendulkar’s knock remains one of the most iconic innings in his career, symbolizing India's fighting spirit and skill on foreign soil. Yet, Australia secured a commanding 300-run victory in that match.

India’s landmark victory in 2008

India made history at the WACA in 2008, breaking Australia’s 16-match winning streak with a stunning 72-run victory. The match saw exceptional performances from Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and an inspired young Ishant Sharma, who famously troubled Australian captain Ricky Ponting with a memorable spell. This win not only marked India’s first victory in Perth but also underscored their resilience amid controversies surrounding the previous Sydney Test, known as the “Monkeygate” incident.

The win in Perth was a testament to India’s growing confidence in overseas conditions and set a benchmark for future Indian teams touring Australia.

The move to optus stadium

Since 2018, the Perth Test has been held at the Optus Stadium, which replaced the WACA due to its modern facilities and higher seating capacity. However, the fast, bouncy nature of the pitch remains a challenge. India’s first Test at the new venue, in 2018, saw Virat Kohli’s team fall short by 146 runs despite a gritty century by Kohli himself. Although India ultimately won the series 2-1, the loss in Perth revealed that the city remains a challenging ground for Indian teams.

The Optus Stadium pitch demands precision and adaptability, qualities that will be crucial for India’s top-order batters. With a potent Australian pace attack, including stars like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, India’s batsmen will need to bring their best footwork and technique to counter the conditions.

Can India overcome the Perth barrier in 2024?

Rohit Sharma’s team heads into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener with high stakes: a 4-0 series victory would ensure their direct qualification to the World Test Championship final. Perth's unique conditions, with a surface favoring fast bowlers, present a significant obstacle. The WACA and Optus Stadium have witnessed some of India's most memorable and challenging moments, creating a mixed legacy for Indian cricket.

Australia’s dominance on this surface, coupled with India’s historically inconsistent performances in Perth, could be a psychological barrier. But recent years have seen Indian teams adapt better to such challenges, especially with a stronger pace attack that includes bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, who could be well-suited for the Perth pitch.

The Perth Test will be an early litmus test for Rohit Sharma and his men, who aim to make history on Australian soil. Starting a high-stakes series at one of the toughest venues may not be ideal, but it could set the tone for India’s performance in the series. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024 promises a thrilling contest between two formidable teams, with Perth’s fast and bouncy pitch adding to the excitement and challenge. As India take on Australia at this iconic venue, fans around the world will be watching to see if Team India can overcome the Perth hurdle once again.

England batter Joe Root has shared his thoughts on the possibility of surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the highest run-scorer in Test cricket. Currently in excellent form during the ongoing Test series between England and the West Indies, Root scored a remarkable century in the second innings of the second Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. This performance has elevated him to the eighth spot on the list of all-time Test run-scorers, surpassing West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

With all the players ranked above Root now retired, he has a strong opportunity to advance further up the list. As of now, Root is the leading run-scorer in Test cricket among contemporary players, significantly ahead of his closest rival, Steve Smith.

Joe Root speaks out on targeting Sachin Tendulkar’s record

In a chat with Sky Sports, Joe Root reflected on his Test cricket journey and his place among the all-time greats. “When I walked out at Nagpur, I never imagined reaching this level. I was just happy to play one game. To be mentioned alongside such incredible players feels surreal, like you’re waiting to wake up. I’m very humbled, but it’s a nice feeling,” Root shared.

The interview, hosted by former England fast bowler Stuart Broad, touched on whether Root could surpass Sachin Tendulkar as the No. 1 run-scorer. Root responded that he needs to stay focused and not think too far ahead.
