Qualifier 1

The top two teams face off, with the winner earning a direct ticket to the Final.

Eliminator

Qualifier 2

The winner of the Eliminator takes on the loser of Qualifier 1, with the victor advancing to the Final.

Final

The ultimate showdown where the winners of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 compete for the TNPL 2024 title.

Schedule and Key dates

The league stage runs from July 5 to July 16, across five venues. The Quarter Finals and Eliminator will be played on July 30 and 31 in Dindigul, while the final stages, including Quarter Final 2 and the grand finale, will be hosted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on August 2 and 4.

Introduction of DRS

For the first time in TNPL history, umpires will have access to the Decision Review System (DRS) for all matches. However, the DRS cannot be used to overturn no-ball or wide calls, ensuring that the system complements the on-field umpires without undermining their authority.

Talented Gujarat Titans batter Shahrukh Khan smashed his maiden half-century in IPL against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, April 28. Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Put into bat, Gujarat Titans got a big blow as Wriddhiman Saha got out for a mere 5. Soon after captain Shubman Gill also got out right after the powerplay for 16. With his dismissal, Shahrukh Khan came in the middle and he steadied the ship with Sai Sudharsan. He took some time initially to settle in the middle but he got set, and he started taking on every bowler.

The excitement surrounding the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is palpable as it gears to kick off on March 22nd. The opening match will see the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squaring off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the iconic M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The Indian Premier League is around the corner, and the stage is set for the young guns to showcase their talent on the big stage. The cash-rich league has provided a platform for several rookie players to make a name for themselves and acts as a bridge to international cricket.

Star India players like Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah first got significant attention through the Indian Premier League. Meanwhile, last season, Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Jitesh Sharma knocked on the national team’s doors with their supreme performances in the franchise league.

The youngsters will be all geared up to get some attention in the upcoming season of IPL. For years, the IPL has served as a prime stage for Indian cricketers to showcase their skills, catching the eye of selectors and fans alike. This season holds particular significance for many players, as it presents an opportunity to solidify their positions ahead of the upcoming mega auctions.

Here are the five exceptional talents to watch out for in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

Rinku Singh- KKR

This season, Rinku Singh emerges as a critical figure for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), riding on his impressive form in recent months. With the T20 World Cup looming, Singh’s performance holds added importance. His remarkable 474 runs in the IPL 2023, boasting a strike rate exceeding 149, underscores his prowess with the bat. Often found batting at number five or six, Singh’s ability to power the ball from the outset and his adept finishing skills make him a player to watch out for this season.

Yashasvi Jaiswal- RR

The Rajasthan Royals opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, enters the IPL 2024 season after a stellar performance in IPL 2023, where he amassed 623 runs at a strike rate shy of 164. Jaiswal’s aggressive style of play, reminiscent of Virender Sehwag, combined with his proficiency against both pace and spin, positions him as a formidable force at the top of the order. Fresh from a memorable Test series against England, Jaiswal will likely find his name inked on the team sheet even before the skipper, Sanju Samson.

Shivam Dube- CSK

Having enjoyed a stellar IPL campaign last year, Shivam Dube returns with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) following his impressive 418 runs at a strike rate exceeding 158. Often entrusted with batting at the top, Dube’s strike rate soared even higher against spinners, reaching 176.47. With his ability to clear the boundary ropes at will, CSK will once again rely on Dube to maintain a brisk scoring rate, particularly on slower tracks.

Dhruv Jurel- RR

A promising young wicketkeeper-batter, Dhruv Jurel made a mark in his IPL debut with the Rajasthan Royals last season. Impressively, he amassed 152 runs off just 88 balls at a blistering strike rate of 172.72, often batting towards the latter stages of the innings. Jurel’s adeptness against both spin and pace, evidenced by his strike rate of nearly 191 against pacers last season, positions him as a valuable asset in the Royals’ lineup. With another season under his belt, Jurel is poised to continue his role as a finisher, which could significantly impact Rajasthan’s campaign.

Shahrukh Khan- SRH

Despite commanding hefty sums in recent IPL auctions, Shahrukh Khan is yet to leave a significant mark in the league. However, the Gujarat Titans exhibited faith in his abilities by securing him with a substantial bid of INR 7.4 crore to bolster their batting lineup following Hardik Pandya’s departure. Khan’s role as a finisher alongside seasoned campaigner David Miller will be pivotal for the Titans this season.

As the IPL 2024 season unfolds, these players, among others, will strive to leave an indelible mark, not only for their respective franchises but also in the broader context of Indian cricket. With the stakes higher than ever, fans can expect nothing short of exhilarating cricketing action in the coming days.

How these talented players will fare in the upcoming season remains to be seen. Still, one thing is sure – the IPL 17th edition promises to be a spectacle filled with drama, excitement, and exceptional cricketing talent.

Gujarat Titans is a franchise that introduced the IPL world with a bang. Announcing the world with a glorious title win in the 2022 edition against the Rajasthan Royals. With an optimum balance of all cricketing aspects, the Gujarat Titans are also prominent for their robust coaching staff. By this, they entered their second straight IPL final, where they were adjourned runners-up against the five-time champion Chennai Super Kings.

With the news of Hardik Pandya changing his squad to the Mumbai Indians, the captain’s responsibility has been given to Shubman Gill, who has created a dynamic impact with the bat in his IPL stint. With some significant blows due to injury, emerging players, and a first-time IPL captain, here are the top four players from the Gujarat Titans squad.

Shubman Gill

It is no surprise to find the name of Shubman Gill on the list. Post Hardik Pandya’s impeccable run as a captain, the young-blooded batter puts on the shoes of a role that defines a team.

With his recent performances for the Indian team, Gill will have no signs of stopping to display consistent performance for his IPL squad as a captain. With a colossal 2790 runs in 91 matches, he has three triple-digit figure feathers added to his hat; he is one of the players to check out for from the team and the whole tournament.

Kane Williamson

Though watching the Kiwi batter on the list might be surprising, Kane Williamson can be an impactful player for the squad. Williamson has had a rough-terrain IPL stint ever since the 2019 edition. After his underwhelming performance from 2019-22, he was released by his first IPL team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he led them to their second IPL final in the 2018 edition & he was also the Orange Cap Winner (Most Runs in an edition) for the season.

He was bought by Gujarat Titans and suffered a significant setback due to an injury in the previous edition, which got him ruled out for the rest of the tournament. But, his captaincy and leadership skills can be a pivotal asset for the team & their new captain, Shubman Gill. It is evident to watch Williamson making a solid comeback after a major injury and can get a chance to display his skills in the shortest format of the game.

Shahrukh Khan

Known for taking the game deep and finishing it off with his batting power, Shahrukh Khan was a vital element with the Punjab Kings as a middle-order batter. But, with just 426 runs in 33 matches and a commendable 135 Strike Rate, it indicates some more mettle within the Tamil Nadu batter.

With the release of their former captain, Hardik Pandya, the team can rely on Shahrukh Khan’s finishing abilities. The big hitter of Gujarat Titans will have a lot to contribute as an all-rounder.

Robin Minz

Robin Minz, 21, became the first tribal cricketer to join the tournament’s ecosystem. The fierce bidding war ended in a hefty payoff for Minz, who obtained a contract worth INR 3.6 crore—18 times his base price of INR 20 lakh. Despite not making his professional cricket debut, Minz stands out as a left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman recognised for his explosive hitting.

Earlier this year, he hit an undefeated 73 from 35 deliveries in an invitational T20 competition in Odisha. Minz has represented the Jharkhand U19 and U25 teams. With Wriddhiman Saha as the team’s primary wicketkeeper, the management can extract value for the team’s future wicketkeeper requirements from the youngster if his promising game is adequately groomed and nurtured.
