At the beginning of their second match of the IPL 2025, the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have brought bad news as the Caribbean all-rounder and franchise legend Sunil Narine is unavailable for the match against the hosts, Rajasthan Royals (RR), in Guwahati on Wednesday evening (March 26).

Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati is hosting the sixth match of the IPL 2025, RR vs KKR, on Wednesday evening. Defending champions KKR started the tournament with a seven-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Meanwhile, RR started the new season with a 44-run loss against SunRisers Hyderabad after conceding the second-highest total in IPL history. So, the sixth match of the IPL 2025 is a crucial fixture for both KKR and RR, as both are desperate to register their first win of the IPL 2025 as early as possible.

IPL 2025: RR vs KKR - Unwell Sunil Narine missed

At the toss in the RR vs KKR match, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane chose to bowl first after winning it. However, at the toss, Rahane brought the tough news for the KKR as Sunil Narine would miss the game. Skipper claimed that the Caribbean star was unwell, while the details could be revealed later.

Sunil Narine is the joint fourth leading wicket-taker in IPL history with 181 wickets in 178 matches, while he has recorded 199 T20 wickets for KKR. While he has also scored 1578 IPL runs with a strike rate of 165.93, including one century and seven half-centuries, he is among only five cricketers with 1500+ runs and 100+ wickets in their IPL career. While KKR won their third IPL title in the 2024 edition, Narine was their leading run-scorer in the season (488 runs) and joint fourth-most wicket-taker in the season (17 wickets). These stats are enough to prove his importance to KKR.

It is a debut match for Moeen Ali for KKR, who has played 67 IPL matches to score 1162 runs and take 35 wickets. In the IPL career, Ali has a batting average of 22.78 and a strike rate of 141.53, including six half-centuries with his best knock of 93 runs.

IPL 2025, Match 6: RR vs KKR Dream11 Top Captains And Vice-captains

Top 3 Captain's choices

Sunil Narine: KKR legend Sunil Narine is the key name in both batting and bowling line-ups for the defending champions. In their first game of the IPL 2025, despite a slow start, the opener Narine scored a valuable 44 off 26 balls with five fours and three sixes. While he had a century partnership with captain Ajinkya Rahane for the second wicket, disciplined Narine had bowling figures of 4-0-27-1.

Ajinkya Rahane: KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane is in dream form with the bat. After having a great domestic season, including finishing as a leading run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 (469 runs), Rahane started the IPL 2025 with a strong 56 off 31 balls, including six fours and four sixes.

Shimron Hetmyer: Caribbean cricketer Shimron Hetmyer is one of the dangerous T20 batters whose strike rate generally stays over 150. He likes to deal with boundaries, which makes his team’s scoreboard busy. In their IPL 2025 opener, while RR were already out of the game, desperate Hetmyer still managed to play a useful cameo of 42 off 23 balls with one four and four sixes.

Top 3 Vice-captain's choices

Sanju Samson: At least for the first three games of the IPL 2025, RR regular captain Sanju Samson is playing only as a batter while Riyan Parag is leading the side. Although Samson always tends to get dismissed early, his consistency is getting better, and he scored a valuable 66 off 37 balls (seven fours and four sixes) in their season opener against SunRisers Hyderabad despite not getting a good start on their 287-run chase.

Varun Chakravarthy: KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy is in great form with the ball. Although he had a tough outing during the first game of the IPL 2025, where he had the bowling figures of 4-0-43-1, it was one of his rare performances in recent times.

Fazalhaq Farooqi: The Afghan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi is one of the most consistent pacers in T20 cricket since 2024, as he has recorded the joint highest wickets in this period with 89 wickets in 57 innings, including four four-fers and four fifers. The left-arm fast bowler is a key for RR.

2. Sunil Narine (KKR)

Sunil Narine was the second top scorer for KKR with 44 runs in the match versus RCB and showed that he possesses the potential to play a brisk game as the team's middle-order batsman. His versatile style as a cricketer makes him one of the standouts to watch in the game versus RR.

3. Sanju Samson (RR)

Sanju Samson, the captain of RR, is a name that he usually connects to strong opening acts made by a batsman in the IPL. In the season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2025, his record against them revealed that he scored 66 runs. KKR vs RCB Match Details

  • Date: March 21st, 2025
  • Time:  7:30 PM IST
  • Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata

1.
Virat Kohli vs Sunil Narine
Virat Kohli is one of the best batsmen in IPL history, while Sunil Narine is dangerous with his accuracy as a spinner. Narine has dismissed Kohli many times in previous IPL matches.Kohli will attempt to take control with his aggressive batting, but Narine's variations of spin might give him trouble.
This contest will be important during the powerplay overs.

2. Quinton de Kock vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Quinton de Kock is a left-handed explosive batsman, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the maestro of swing bowling. De Kock would prefer to take on fast bowlers sooner, but Bhuvneshwar's waywardness to both sides might trouble him.
If Bhuvneshwar can knock over De Kock early, RCB has a good chance of dominating KKR's batting

3. Shreyas Iyer vs Josh Hazlewood
Shreyas Iyer is famous for his strong technique and capacity to construct an innings. In contrast, Josh Hazlewood is a height fast bowler capable of creating bounce and movement. Current defending Champions Kolkata Knight Riders had a great auction before the IPL 2025, though there were quite setbacks when Shreyas Iyer the former captain left the team for the credibility issues. However, the team had moved on from that and they replaced the same replica of the person who understood the game better. They bought Rahane at the cost of 1.5 crore which could be considered as the best deal of all.

The amount of experience Rahane posses in that camp is just invaluable. Retaining the core team and adversing the new talents strains Kolkata into the final 4 of this IPL edition too.In this edition there are players who can strom this IPL season with their innovative batting style.

The first on our list is -

Ajinkya Rahane

Rahane might be considered as slow starter or carrier of the team but the recent form and the way he played in the previous season are the testiments that Rahane could be the x factor for Kolkata. From 2023 he has stellar performance for CSK where he had the strike rate of 199 and scored 209 runs comparing to last year it is quite impressive where he just possesed a strike rate of 103 and scoring just 133 runs.

Rahane has improved a lot as a t20 player and the additional responsibility of captaincy would strive him more as player and enchance the confidence beneath him.

2. Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer has been the best opener for KKR where he debuted in 2021 where he had a stellar performance in 10 games scoring 350 runs where they finished as runners up in that season and Iyer established himself as prominent opener. He established himself in 2022 too where he had a good season but later suffering from injury he had to skip the next season.

Read More: How To Buy Csk vs Punjab Kings Match 49 Tickets - IPL 2025

Iyer was back in 2024 he was not just back but was impactful then way earlier he just devasted the opening slot scoring 370 in that season with an average of 46.89 with a strike rate of 158. Yet it seems Iyer hasn't shown his full potential he may be a dangerous customer for other teams in this upcoming season.

3. Andre Russell

The muscle man is no need of introduction of his finishing abilities which he is been doing for KKR for years. If he stands on the ground that means any bowler in the world is small for him. He has played some of the crucial knocks which is never been expected. The type of pressure handling he does and range of hitting is quite insane.

He posses the strike rate of 170 at the death overs of the game. Where his valuable efforts are still in praise. In this season too he can create a huge impact with his all round abilities too which can help KKR to attain their fourth title.

4. Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey who started his career as an opener then later moved onto the middle order batsman. Started his career with Royal Challengers Banglore where stretched with Virat Kohli's stature though he had a good flow of runs too. But due to inconsistency he had to travel to many teams. Scoring runs was never an issue but the template of consistency has been lacking.

In this season he has been picked by Kolkata once again for 75 Lakhs. He is considered as best middle order batsman for now who manages the role and this year without absence of Shreyas Iyer he can play the middle order role for the team.

5. Sunil Narine

Sunil Narine the spin web and the pinch hitter of the team has gained widespread recognition where it all started with Gautam Gambhir who promoted him to the top order during his captaincy tenure in 2017, from there it was no looking back for Narine. With KKR he has won three titles from 2012,2014 and now it's 2024. He has won it in different phases which makes him more elite. There is no intro for his spin bowling which can be heavily handy.

He can play the role of same all rounder for the team, that's what makes kolkata a dangerous side where their players posses both kind of talents so it kindly helps them to generate the game.

These players are considered as the X factor for this season it would be epicable if they added some experienced coach pool too Csk Dwayne Bravo as bowling coach can be very handy that reciprocates KKR are on a hunt to retain their title.

The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League, a tournament that has always set the benchmark for the shortest format of the game, has once again raised the bar.

This year, we’ve witnessed some incredible performances, with shattered long-standing records and international and emerging players making their mark on Indian soil. The batters of the tournament have indeed embodied the spirit of IPL 2024. In this listicle, we’re taking a closer look at the top five extraordinary batting innings that have captivated the cricketing world in the 2024 edition.

1. Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders) vs Rajasthan Royals- 109 runs off 56 balls

Hailed as one of the toughest spinners, Sunil Narine, the Trinidadian spinmeister, has proved his impeccable calibre with the bat, thanks to the IPL platform for displaying his willow-handling skills. Though he started his stint as an opener during the 2017 Big Bash League, his long stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders helped him unleash batting prowess, and the clash against Rajasthan Royals summed it all up.

Against a robust Royals bowling attack on the vast Eden Gardens track, Narine pumped up his batting shots and got off to a flying start. With 13 boundaries and six sixes, he had hit his first-ever century across his batting timeline, with a commendable strike rate of 194.64. To add things up, this memorable batting innings made him the first player in the IPL to have scored a hundred and picked a five-wicket haul.

    2. Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals) vs Kolkata Knight Riders- 107* runs off 60 balls

To give a small continuation to Sunil Narine’s memorable first century, it was in the same clash of the best; the fans witnessed another stupendous batting innings. After giving a target of 224 runs to the Rajasthan Royals, the away side was up for it amongst the vast grounds of the Eden Gardens. But he had got off slightly slow as he made only 25 off his first 18 balls.

But although struggling with the injury that kept him out of the last RR game and rapidly running out of batting partners, Buttler stayed the course. And taking the match to an enthralling last ball, Buttler’s innings of 107* runs off 60 balls, with nine fours and six sixes, he had taken his visitor’s side team to a victory by two wickets, which kind of overshadowed Narine’s commendable knock.

    3. Will Jacks (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) vs Gujarat Titans- 100* runs off 41 balls

With a quick-pace triple-digit mark and an awestruck reaction by King Kohli, Will Jacks’s century is a wholesome and flavourful batting innings. Starting things off with 17 runs in just 17 balls, in the successive 24 balls, the English batter hit the remaining runs to reach his first-ever IPL century.

Though he had come lately to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru batting campaign, he had proved to be an instrumental element to the team’s middle order batting, which led him to a memorable six-consecutive winning stint, which led them to seal the final playoffs spot, when they just had a mere 1% chance, symbolising the team’s resilient and robust mentality approach.

    4. Travis Head (Sunrisers Hyderabad) vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru- 102 runs off 41 balls

In the clash between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad on the small dimensions of Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru broke the long-held record of the highest team score ever in IPL, where Sunrisers Hyderabad took that title away from the previous holders of Bengaluru, thanks to the swashbuckling Aussie batter, Travis Head.

With already announcing his stint in the IPL from an excellent first-match performance, Head accelerated his performance and got him to this stage, where he proved to be handy in scoring the highest team total of IPL of 287/3 by making a century off just 39 balls. In his innings of 102 runs off 41 balls, he hit nine fours and eight sixes at a colossal strike rate of 248.78.

    5. Shashank Singh (Punjab Kings) vs Gujarat Titans- 61* runs off 29 balls

In this listicle, we have seen all the centuries making the mark, but a few innings have created a long-lasting impact, but it didn’t require a triple-digit mark. One such innings is by the Punjab Kings’ middle-order batting powerhouse, Shashank Singh. It all started in last year’s IPL auction when the Kings bought him instead of another player with the same name, leading to a case of mistaken identity.

With several rumours goofed up, the franchise clarified it and mentioned that he was always on their planned list. As it implies, the batter from Chattisgarh paid back the trust and scored an impeccable innings of 61* runs off 29 balls in a 200-run chase against the Gujarat Titans. This innings is a testament to seizing any opportunity given to a person from different walks of life, which also bolstered the batter’s confidence and led him to be a valuable batting asset to the Punjab Kings.

In a thrilling match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) stormed to a dominant 7-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals (DC), showcasing a remarkable comeback after their previous setback and solidifying their second-place position on the leaderboard.

Phil Salt and Sunil Narine become the ultimate game changer of the match

Chasing a modest target of 154 runs set by Delhi, Kolkata’s openers, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine, set the stage on fire with a blazing 79-run partnership in just 6 overs, putting their team in a commanding position early in the game.

Although Narine’s departure caused a brief hiccup, Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer ensured a smooth finish for KKR, guiding their team to victory with ease. Delhi’s bowlers, especially Lizaad Williams in the initial overs, struggled to contain the aggressive KKR batsmen, allowing them to dictate terms.

Their partnership, characterized by one player taking charge while the other rotates the strike, played a crucial role in KKR’s victory.

On the other hand, Delhi’s batting faltered right from the start as they failed to find momentum. Losing crucial wickets in the Powerplay, they struggled to capitalize on promising starts. While players like Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Abishek Porel showed glimpses of potential, only Kuldeep Yadav’s resilient knock of 35 runs offered any significant resistance.

Varun Chakaravarthy shows brilliance in the bowling unit

KKR’s bowling unit, led by Varun Chakaravarthy’s three-wicket haul, put the brakes on Delhi’s batting line-up, with Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana also making valuable contributions with two wickets each.

Phil Salt, the hero of KKR’s chase, expressed his delight at contributing to the team’s success in the IPL. He credited the bowlers for their stellar performance and praised the team’s ability to bounce back from their previous defeat. Salt highlighted the team’s aggressive approach at the top of the order, stating that while it involves risks, it often pays off in their favor. He also emphasized the importance of his experience as a wicketkeeper, which helped him assess the conditions and enhance his batting performance.

Sunil Narine and Phil Salt set the stage on fire with their explosive batting performance for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 42 of IPL 2024 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, against Punjab Kings.

    Narine and Salt’s Explosive Partnership

In a display of aggressive batting, Sunil Narine and Phil Salt propelled KKR to a blistering start after Sam Curran, the Punjab Kings’ captain, chose to field first. Their fearless approach saw KKR racing to 70 runs off just five overs, courtesy of their explosive hitting that left the opposition reeling. They have added 137 runs in 10 overs.
