Indian cricket fans had an amazing surprise when the captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, who is also a top batter, gave an exclusive interview for a very popular talk show, Charcha. The Hitman, whose casual batting and calm nature are well known, talked about his life and career, explained his difficulties, and gave his thoughts on the future of cricket in India.

Through his address, Rohit was accepting the massive responsibility that was standing in front of him as the captain of India in all the formats and letting the crowd know that he knew. He was also highlighting how it is of utmost significance to get trust and teamwork in the dressing room.

It is no longer about the individual aspect only. First of all, I, being a leader, would like to be that one who makes my players comfortable in the field their way. The intention here is to bring out the best in each one," Rohit pointed out.

During the T20 World Cup windows’ buildup, Rohit's poignant tak e understandably engaged fans waiting for more from him in India's preparations. In his reply, he said that the team was indeed working hard to be a better team following the mistakes in the past.

Our 2024 T20 World Cup team is a very good one that has a mix of players who are experienced and those with young talents. All we need to do is to play fearlessly and be our best," was his response.

Rohit, as a real son of the city of Mumbai, talked with great love about his participation in the IPL cricket league and the Mumbai team he was in. His term as a captain brought them too many successes, and, in return, he paid his dues to the franchise as well as to its fans.

IPL has been a great source of learning for me both as a player and a captain. The Mumbai Indians team is like a family, and the supporters have just been outstanding,” he said thoughtfully.

He explained to us the way he doesn't allow the game to overtake his life in a playful manner, esp. when it comes to his daughter Samaira and wife. Obviously, "spending time with family is something that I enjoy. Despite the most intense atmosphere on the ground, getting back to them for peace remains my bigger mission," he said quite excitedly.

One of the key things that he wants youngsters who are trying to become cricketers to know is that doing a lot of "hard work and being patient are the only ways they can become successful players. They should understand the game, follow the process, and always be open to learning new things,” Rohit said.

In no uncertain terms, at the end of the interview, it became pretty clear that Rohit Sharma will be remembered as one of the most beloved and respected cricketers in the world. His spirit, leadership, and love for the game couldn't be stopped, and his fans are numerous and spread everywhere in the world.

<![CDATA[Pakistani Cricketer Accused of Not Paying for Bats Bought in New Jersey]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/pakistani-cricketer-accused-of-not-paying-for-bats-bought-in-new-jersey/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/pakistani-cricketer-accused-of-not-paying-for-bats-bought-in-new-jersey/ Fri, 21 Mar 2025 19:17:45 GMT

A famous Pakistani cricketer has come under criticism for failing to pay for three cricket bats he bought at a New Jersey shop during the recently concluded T20 World Cup last year. The identity of the player is unclear. However, it is likely to be a well-known Pakistan batter. Babar Azam, Rizwan, Saim Ayub, and Fakhr Zaman were all on that Pakistan squad, and Waheed could be talking about them.

This claim surfaced after Waheed Khan, an experienced sports journalist, discussed the incident as the store owner is still awaiting payment. Although the store owner has made numerous attempts to reach the player who visited the store, there was no response.

The cricketer came to the shop before a crucial T20 World Cup game, chose three expensive bats to be purchased, and indicated they would return in the future to settle the payment. This related to the fact that it has now been months without a payment. ''I trusted him because of his name, but after a few days he is not answering my calls," the store owner said. “And I'm not susceptible to answering the door or trying another time that I couldn’t reach him.”

This revelation has sparked discussions among cricket fans and followers; some have criticized the player for his failure to acknowledge the nature of retribution. Others have thought it to be a miscommunication.

However, the Pakistan Cricket Board cricket board has not officially commented on this matter. If these revelations are accurate, it may question the morals and professionalism of all players in the international arena. We do not know yet whether the player will respond to the allegations, and we also do not know if the owner of the shop will escalate the matter legally. As this story develops, professional cricketers and journalists will no doubt be watching the developments very closely.

For now, the shop owner continues on, waiting for the cricketer to finally resolve the situation and bring an end to the controversy.

Hardik Pandya had a year full of ups and downs in 2024 ipl. He went from being booed during the last IPL season to helping India win the T20 World Cup in Barbados all in just a few months. Now, after also winning the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025, the all-rounder Hardik Pandya has finally shared his thoughts on the tough times he faced last year in IPL 2024.

Hardik Pandya had a rough time during the last IPL season after becoming Mumbai Indians' captain in place of Rohit Sharma. Many fans weren’t happy with the Captaincy change, and every time Hardik stepped onto the field, he was met with boos. Even at Wankhede Stadium, Hardik Pandya didn’t get much love from the home crowd. During Mumbai Indians’ first match in Mumbai, fans booed him non-stop, so much so that former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar had to ask them to "behave."

It was a tough season for Mumbai Indians, who finished last on the points table. Hardik himself struggled, managing only 216 runs with the bat and 11 wickets with the ball. But just two months later, everything changed. When he returned to Mumbai after India’s T20 World Cup win in Barbados, the same city that once booed him welcomed him with cheers. In the final against South Africa, Hardik bowled the last over, and the rest is history India finally broke their ICC title drought on June 29, 2024.

"It's all about not giving up, no matter how tough things get. For me, it wasn’t about winning—it was just about hanging in there. That year was one of the hardest, and I had to keep going without backing down. I realized that no matter what was happening around me, cricket would always be my best friend and the thing that would help me get through it," Hardik Pandya said during an episode of JioStar's Superstars.

"I just kept going, kept pushing myself. Honestly, I could never have imagined things turning out the way they did. Those six months were a crazy ride—winning the World Cup, coming back home, and feeling the love from everyone again. It was a complete turnaround for me. I always believed that if I stayed patient, worked hard, and remained true to my game, I would get through it. I just didn’t know when. But in the end, things fell into place, and in just two and a half months, everything changed," he said.

"This year, our goal was to add experience. If you look at our squad, you’ll see we wanted a strong, experienced bowling attack. Wankhede is a challenging venue, and playing IPL matches there can be quite intimidating," Hardik said.

The IPL 2024 season will start on March 22 with KKR taking on RCB. Mumbai Indians will play their first match on March 23 against their biggest rivals, Chennai Super Kings, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

For a brief moment, Indian hearts stopped beating. But then suddenly, Suryakumar Yadav judged the jump to perfection, caught the ball, and kept himself inside the boundary rope—giving India a dismissal that shattered the dreams of South Africa.

India went on to win the final seven runs, courtesy of exceptional death bowling by Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Pandya, but Suryakumar's catch was the standout moment that will be remembered.

Rohit Sharma said he needed "to be smart" and "open up all sides of the field" to counter the strong breeze at the Daren Sammy Stadium in a Super Eight game of the T20 World Cup 2024 against an Australia bowling attack that tried to use that same breeze to make life difficult for him. He was smart enough on the day, hitting a 41-ball 92 with seven fours and eight sixes to lead India to a 24-run win and a spot in the semi-finals as the Group 1 toppers.

Rohit Sharma 92 vs Australia
T20 World Cup Super Eight, Gros Islet

Rohit's ultra-aggressive approach brought him great success during the 2023 ODI World Cup, but he wasn't able to replicate it at the T20 World Cup. Then came the match against Australia. In a high-stakes contest, he smashed 92 off 41 to seal India's semi-final spot. As long as he was at the crease, it was a one-man show. Of India's first 52 runs, 50 came from Rohit's bat alone. He hit Mitchell Starc for four sixes and a four in one over before depositing a Pat Cummins slower ball on the roof of the stadium. In all, he hit seven fours and eight sixes and paved the way for a 200-plus total.

Rohit Performance against Australia :

In Mitchell Starc's second over, Rohit took him for 29 runs in seven balls - 6, 6, 4, 6, 0, wd, 6 - and there needed to be seven balls because, by the end, Starc wasn't too keen on bowling straight.

India could only score five boundaries in their last six overs. Rohit probably knew something like that would happen as the ball got older and the field spread out, so he took it upon himself to go early and go hard. This innings wasn't just about power-hitting. It was about clear thinking.

As per emerging reports, the tall hard-hitting all-rounder Shivam Dube is likely to join the Indian T20I squad ahead of the Rajkot T20I. Dube, who was a part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad for India last year, is included in India's T20I squad for the ongoing five-match series against England.

It is understood that Dube will acquire Nitish Kumar's place in the squad as the latter has suffered an injury from which he hasn't fully recovered. The 31-year-old was previously left out of the squad since the selection committee had already made up their mind to zero down on Hardik and Nitish as their two frontline pace-bowling all founders. But Nitish's injury has opened doors for Dube and he could be someone who could play a key part for India in the ongoing T20I series.

A look at some of his recent performances

Dube featured in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy fixture against Jammu & Kashmir at the BKC Ground in Mumbai where his side suffered a shocking five-wicket defeat. In a match where most of their star performers (excluding Shardul) looked all at sea, Dube failed to open his account and bagged a pair being dismissed on 0 in both innings.

Previously, Dube suffered a back injury which forced him out of action from the initial phase of the Ranji Trophy season. After his speedy recovery, Dube featured in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and helped Mumbai lift the title under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. Dube did not get the opportunity to bowl in the T20 World Cup last year but managed to leave some impact with the bat scoring 133 runs across eight innings which includes his top score of 34 against Bangladesh. His last international outing for India came during the Sri Lankan white-ball tour which ended in abject disappointment as he averaged only 13 and 11.33 in T20I and ODI series respectively.

After India’s big T20 World Cup win, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised head coach Rahul Dravid, calling him the key to the team’s success. On his YouTube channel, Ashwin shared the emotional moments that followed the victory.

Ashwin Shares His Favorite Memory

Ashwin’s story highlighted Dravid’s deep emotional connection to the team. His favorite memory was seeing Rahul Dravid hug the cup and cry.

“My moment was when Virat Kohli handed the cup to Rahul Dravid. I saw him hug the cup and cry. Rahul Dravid screamed and cried. I saw how much he enjoyed it. I felt that a lot,” Ashwin recalled.

Ashwin Highlights Dravid’s Behind-the-Scenes Efforts

Ashwin praised Dravid for his hard work behind the scenes. He talked about Dravid’s past as a captain and how he’s always been there for the team.

“I want to talk about a person who is special. In 2007, during the 50-over World Cup, India got knocked out. Rahul Dravid was the captain then. He didn’t captain the one-day team after that. He’s always been with the Indian team. When things go wrong, people immediately ask what Rahul Dravid is doing,” Ashwin said.

He noted the pressure Dravid faced, especially after past failures in ICC tournaments.

“I know what he’s been doing with this team for the past 2-3 years. I know how balanced he has been and how hard he’s worked to change the approach. I know how much he has given to each player. Even when he’s at home, he’s planning how to do things,” Ashwin added.

Dravid’s Impact on the Team

Dravid’s time as coach has led to noticeable changes in India’s game. The team is now more adaptable, resilient, and ready for new challenges. Ashwin credited much of this change to Dravid’s influence. Under Dravid’s coaching, India has become a strong team in all formats. They’ve shown they can handle tough targets, defend low scores, and perform under pressure.

Even though star players often get the spotlight, Dravid’s hard work behind the scenes has been crucial to India’s success. His careful planning, attention to detail, and belief in his players have helped the team reach the top of world cricket. India will begin their new cycle with coach Gautam Gambhir on July 27 against Sri Lanka after Dravid’s contract ends.

<![CDATA[Could Rinku Singh make his Test debut? Vikram Rathour supports the youngster's potential]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/could-rinku-singh-make-his-test-debut-vikram-rathour-supports-the-youngsters-potential/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/could-rinku-singh-make-his-test-debut-vikram-rathour-supports-the-youngsters-potential/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 16:47:05 GMT

Outgoing batting coach Vikram Rathour from Team India recommended Rinku Singh’s inclusion in the Test squad. Rathour praised Rinku for his temperament, seeing him as a perfect fit for Test cricket.

During his time as Team India’s batting coach under Rahul Dravid’s guidance, Rathour closely watched Rinku’s progress. Despite Rinku’s success in white-ball cricket, particularly as a T20I finisher, Rathour believed he possessed the skills and technical prowess needed for Test cricket.

“One of the players to have moved up the ladder in the past two seasons is Rinku Singh, who has played two ODIs and 20 T20Is, but can’t be called a regular in the national side yet. He is a fantastic finisher in short-format cricket, but also averages 54.70 after 69 first-class innings,” Rathour told PTI,

From IPL star to international debut

Rinku became well known during IPL 2023 and played his first international T20 matches against Ireland last year. He also started playing ODIs during the series against South Africa in December 2023.

Although Rinku didn’t secure a spot in Team India’s 15 member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, he traveled as a reserve player, sparking disappointment among fans and experts. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar acknowledged that omitting Rinku was a tough decision for the committee.

Rathour’s vision for Rinku in Tests

Rathour highlighted that while Rinku has made a name for himself in T20Is, he envisioned the batter thriving in Test cricket as well.

“When I see him bat in nets, I can’t find any technical reasons why Rinku cannot be a successful Test batter,” Rathour said. “I understand he has made his name as a terrific finisher in T20 cricket, but if you look at his first-class record, he is averaging in high 50s.

“He is also blessed with a very calm temperament. So all these factors indicate that, if given an opportunity, he can develop into a Test cricketer.”

In his T20I 20 appearances, Rinku has scored 416 runs at a strike rate of 176.27, including two fifties. It remains to be seen if he will receive an opportunity in Test cricket in the future.
