The UP Warriorz and Mumbai Indians Women are gearing up for their second encounter in WPL 2024. Match 14 of the tournament, UP-W vs MI-W, is scheduled to unfold on Thursday, March 7, at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians Women are ready to take on Alyssa Healy’s UP Warriorz. With both teams having competed in 5 matches so far in WPL, Mumbai Indians Women have won the toss and elected to bat.

Women’s Premier League: Who said what at the toss?

Alyssa Healy: It (the toss) doesn’t matter you have to do well both fronts. Yes, the last couple of games have been won by the team batting first but we don’t mind bowling first. It is just one game at a time and focus on that, think about tomorrow’s game later. We have one change.

Harmanpreet Kaur: We are gonna have a bat first. There is no dew in the last couple of games, that’s the only reason. When there is dew chasing is the better option else why to put yourself under pressure. We are going with the same team.

In the upcoming match of WPL 2024, the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women are determined to secure their inaugural victory against the Delhi Capitals Women. Scheduled for Thursday, February 29, the RCB Women vs DC Women face-off, marked as match 7 of WPL 2024, promises an exciting spectacle for viewers. The battleground for this encounter is none other than the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

While the DC Women have showcased remarkable form in WPL 2024, having narrowly lost their opening game against MI Women, they swiftly bounced back, decimating the Gujarat Giants with a commanding 9-wicket victory. As anticipation builds for the RCB Women vs DC Women clash in WPL 2024, let’s delve into their head-to-head records.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore Women have won the toss and elected to field, setting the stage for what is sure to be a thrilling contest.

Women’s Premier League: Who said what at the toss?

Smriti Mandhana: We would like to field first. We have seen a trend where there is something for the bowlers in the first 5-6 overs. Also, it is better to know the target in T20 cricket. That was the talk even before the season, not to depend on certain players and all the XI are good enough to win a game on their own. Perry misses out due to an illness. Nadine comes in and makes her debut. They have turned up in huge numbers and we feel we have 10 runs more due to their support. Really thankful to them.

Meg Lanning: We were going to have a bowl but that seems to be the trend. But the track won’t change much through the game. Sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don’t in T20 cricket. Jess Jonassen comes in for Annabel Sutherland.

UP Warriorz executed a remarkable feat, orchestrating a significant upset by defeating defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets in Match No.6 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 on Wednesday, February 28 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Vrinda Dinesh, whose performances against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) were lackluster, sustained a shoulder injury while fielding and consequently did not participate in batting. Opting for Kiran Navgire as Alyssa Healy’s opening partner proved to be a masterstroke for the Warriorz.

Navgire provided an explosive start to the Warriorz’ run-chase, amassing 61 runs during the powerplay. Her aggressive batting reduced the required run-rate to 7.21 while chasing a target of 162. Navgire reached her fifty in just 25 balls and eventually scored 57 runs off 31 deliveries, featuring 6 boundaries and 4 sixes.

Healy, who struggled in the initial matches, contributed 33 runs off 29 balls, forming a solid 94-run partnership for the opening wicket alongside Navgire.

Explosive Start Propels UP Warriorz to Victory

Following the impressive start, the Warriorz encountered a minor setback losing Navgire, Healy, and Tahlia McGrath in less than 2 overs. Issy Wong, reinstated in the playing XI in lieu of Shabnim Ismail, dismissed McGrath and Healy, causing some unease in the Warriorz camp.

Nevertheless, Grace Harris and Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten partnership of 65 runs ensured the Warriorz clinched victory with 21 balls to spare. Harris displayed aggressive batting, scoring 38 runs off 17 balls with 6 fours and a six, while Deepti contributed 27 runs off 20 balls, providing crucial support.

Marizanne Kapp shone brightly for the Delhi Capitals in their inaugural match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, where they clinched victory against the UP Warriorz by a convincing margin of 9 wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday.

Kapp, in partnership with Dane van Niekerk, her former South African teammate, wreaked havoc on the opposition’s batting lineup, finishing with impressive figures of 3 wickets for just 5 runs in her allotted 4 overs. Opting to field first, the Capitals’ decision proved fruitful as Kapp dismantled the top order of the Warriorz, claiming crucial wickets including Alyssa Healy, Vrinda Dinesh, and Tahlia McGrath, leaving the Warriorz reeling at 16 for 3 within the first 5 overs.

Kapp’s Heroics and Verma’s Brilliance Propel Delhi Capitals to Dominant Victory

Despite a valiant effort from Shweta Sehrawat, who scored a notable 45 runs off 42 balls, the Warriorz struggled to recover, ultimately managing to post a modest total, largely supported by Sehrawat’s innings. Radha Yadav, with her impactful bowling, contributed significantly by taking 4 wickets for 20 runs, further restricting the Warriorz’ batting prowess.

In response, the Capitals displayed dominance with their batting prowess, particularly through a formidable opening partnership between Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma. Verma, bouncing back from a previous poor performance, showcased her brilliance by racing to a half-century off just 36 balls, eventually remaining unbeaten on 64 runs off 43 deliveries.
