The Indian board will announce the team for the South African tour soon, as well as the two captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The Tests would be led by Kohli, but Rohit – who is the T20I captain – could be appointed the ODI captain as well. In that case, coach Rahul Dravid would be faced with a ‘challenge’ indeed, thinks former India cricketer Aakash Chopra.
”Virat Kohli has to stay together, which is great, but you’ll need to get to know Rahul Dravid, who you may have worked with as a player, but it’s going to be a challenge for him as well,” Chopra said on Star Sports.
The team must also have two captains moving forward, Chopra said. “There is one captain in one format and a different captain in the other format,” Chopra explained. ”You obviously want Indian cricket to be in the same direction, but you have to manage it with two different leaders,” Chopra added furthermore.
There will be a difference between the approaches of Rohit and Virat, as both are different individuals. Chopra believes that Rahul Dravid would need to adjust to both styles and align himself accordingly. In addition, he said that each individual is temperamental and understands things differently, and one must be receptive to the opinions of the other. It will be Rohit’s vision, your alignment will be with his vision, Chopra concluded.
