West Indies and Scotland meet in Pool B of the First Round of the 2022 T20 World Cup on Monday afternoon in Tasmania. West Indies came into last year’s T20 World Cup as defending champions but won only one of their five fixtures. Scotland won Pool B but then lost all five games in the Super 12 Stage. West Indies have a completely different team compared to last year’s T20 World Cup and have struggled to find consistency. That said, they should be too strong for Scotland in this match. Scotland will be delighted to be playing West Indies in their opening game and shows how far they have come that they enter the tournament at the same stage. However, it will be a very tough opening game.

In spite of Scotland’s successful Round 1 performance in the 2021 T20 World Cup, West Indies are very strong favourites ahead of this match.West Indies’ high profile players with bat and ball appear regularly in global T20 tournaments. Scotland’s players are relatively unknown and do not have the same level of big game experience. Scotland caused an upset in the First Round last year when they beat Bangladesh but it would be an even bigger shock if they were to defeat the 2016 T20 World Cup Winners West Indies. We expect a one-sided game with West Indies getting the victory. Considering the team combination, West Indies is expected to win this match.
