Well, the pinnacle trophy of the shortest format is undoubtedly the ICC T20 World Cup. Since 2007, this mega event has taken shape in seven editions. Fortunately, unlike the ODI World Cup, there isn’t any indomitable team that has won more than twice.

On the whole, six different international teams have won this ICC’s world event. The eighth edition of the World T20 will now debut itself on Australian soil. However, many modern-day greats are yet to bag this ICC medal despite different teams triumphing.

Therefore in this list, let’s check out 5 cricketers who minimum have featured in four T20 World Cups but are yet to win the trophy.

Martin Guptill

Martin Guptill- 5 Cricketers who minimum played in four T20 World Cups but are yet to win one
Martin Guptill has grown into a New Zealand legend but still faces the task of bringing New Zealand a major trophy in white-ball cricket.

This NZ cricketer is a legendary name in the shortest format. In the history of T20Is, Guptill is the third-highest run-scorer (3497 runs). For NZ, the batter has also made record World T20 appearances. Since 2009, Guptill has been trying to win his maiden ICC medal.

However, in his six T20 World Cup attempts, the 35-year-old had just recently come close to winning the trophy. But yet again against Australia, NZ lost the final in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Also, with regards to individual performances, Guptill is the 12th highest scorer in the mega event.

Stats-wise, this Kiwi batter has featured in 22 World T20 games scoring 617 runs at an average of 24.68. But unexpectedly his strike rate stands at 114.25. Overall, in his World T20 grind, Guptill has also the pouched second-highest number of catches (19). Hopefully, in the upcoming event, this NZ veteran would toil the hardest to bag his first ICC glory.

Ravindra Jadeja

Thanks to a knee injury, Ravindra Jadeja will miss out on the upcoming World Cup

Ravindra Jadeja’s T20I debut had happened just before the 2009 World T20. The youngster at that point in time was a budding all-rounder in Indian cricket. Unfortunately, when India won the 2007 T20 World Cup, Jadeja wasn’t around. But post that neither India nor this 33-year-old has won an ICC T20 medal.

Individually for Jadeja, the cricketer has in total appeared in 5 T20 World Cups. The closest this talisman had come was in 2014 and 2016. Sadly in home sub-continental conditions, India finished as Runner-up in 2014. Even in 2016, it was the West Indies that had discarded India in the semi-final.

Overall on a personal level, Jadeja has played 22 games in the T20 World Cup picking 21 wickets. Additionally, the gun-fielder has taken the second most catches (11) for India in the competition. But to grab a World T20 medal, Jadeja will have to wait much longer till the 2024 edition arrives.

Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh’s best player in their history is still fighting for a maiden World Cup win.

Since the inaugural 2007 World T20, Shakib has featured in all ICC T20 events. The cricketer for Bangladesh in T20Is is irrefutably a legendary figure. His phenomenal T20I record has made southpaw Bangladesh’s second-highest scorer (2045 runs) and highest wicket-taker (122).

But agonizingly for the 35-year-old, his World T20 medal has been an insurmountable goal. For years now in all the editions, the Bangla Tigers have inferiorly underperformed. Only in the 2016 edition, the Tigers could have reached the knockouts by upsetting India.

However personally for Shakib, the cricketer has always been a standout player in the World T20 events. The spinner presently is the highest wicket-taker with 41 wickets from 31 games. Even his economy rate of 6.43 is one of the finest and most frugal.

Additionally, twice as captain Shakib has represented his country. Nevertheless soon in Australia, this veteran will make another attempt to come closets to the T20 World Cup glory.

Tim Southee

Tim Southee- 5 Cricketers who minimum played in four T20 World Cups but are yet to win one
Tim Southee made his debut back in 2008, but is still waiting for a World Cup win,

This speedster of NZ made his T20I debut way back in 2008. The youngster at that point in time was a budding pacer arising from the 2008 U-19 World Cup batch. But in the 2009 World T20, Southee was missing. It was only next year in the Caribbean when this lad debuted in the third edition.

Fortunately, since then, the 33-year-old has been regular in all the following ICC T20 events. For the Blackcaps, Southee has also scalped the second most number of wickets in the competition. But when it comes to winning the trophy, the pacer had come closest only in 2021.

Comprehensively, the veteran in the World T20 has made 17 appearances along with picking 22 wickets in total. Optimistically in Australia, Southee might make one final attempt to win a T20 World Cup.

  1. Mohammad Nabi

Proudly, for both Afghanistan and Mohammad Nabi, their T20 World Cup journey commenced in 2010. Under the captaincy of Nawroz Mangal, the Afghans debuted in the third edition. Post that this cricket nation along with its biggest legend has regularly shown flashes of brilliance. Personally for Nabi, the veteran is the only Afghan cricketer to play more than 100 T20Is.

However, for him and Afghanistan, winning the World T20 is a lofty proposition. That’s why on an individual basis, Nabi has strived the hardest to reach as close as possible. Particularly in the 2016 event, the 37-year-old had scalped 12 wickets from 7 games. Comprehensively in his all 19 appearances, the all-rounder has picked 18 wickets.

Overall, Nabi has also captained his team the most number of times (8) in the past ICC T20 events. Hopefully, the old maestro will again wholeheartedly give one final shot in the 2022 edition.
