Charith Asalanka to lead Sri Lanka's 16-man squad for the 3-match ODI series against India

Sri Lanka has named a 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series against India starting on Friday, August 2, at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Charith Asalanka will continue as captain, aiming for a comeback after losing the T20I series.

This series is crucial for India too, as it includes three of the six ODIs leading up to the Champions Trophy 2025. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play in this series, marking their first ODI appearance since their heartbreaking loss to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final.

Shreyas Iyer will also return to the Indian team after losing his central contract. Riyan Parag has received his first ODI call-up, and Shivam Dube is making a comeback after five years.

No place for Angelo Matthews and Dasun Shanaka

Angelo Matthews and Dasun Shanaka are missing from the team. Both played in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Shanaka was injured during the tournament and had to leave. He was also dropped from the team afterward. Other key players left out include Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thusara, who got injured before the T20Is.
