In Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 21. SRH won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite a half-century from Rahul Tripathi and a late surge by Pat Cummins, SRH struggled against KKR’s dominant bowling and were bowled out for a below-par 159.

In pursuit of the target, KKR’s openers provided a solid start but couldn’t sustain the momentum. However, half-centuries from Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer guided KKR to victory, chasing down the target in just 13.4 overs with eight wickets in hand. As a result, KKR advanced to the IPL 2024 finals, while SRH will play Qualifier 2 on May 24, awaiting their opponent.

Let us look at the highlights from the game;

Mitchell Starc dismissed Travis Head for a duck

The legendary Australia speedster Mitchell Starc hit his stride at the perfect moment in IPL 2024. He opened the innings with a delivery that extracted some swing and utilized it effectively to dismiss Travis Head on the very next ball. The fuller delivery swung outward after pitching, proving to be the key for KKR.

Rahul Tripathi in tears after his dismissal

Rahul Tripathi looked in excellent form, anchoring the innings while wickets fell rapidly around him. He reached his 12th IPL fifty and seemed poised for a big score. However, a miscommunication with Abdul Samad led to his run-out. Devastated, the right hand batter was seen sitting on the staircase in visible agony.
